Bridgette Pirtle, who contributed footage to the film Blackfish, tells fan site MiceChat that the film lacks context and has an agenda. The former trainer said:
It seemed to me, with the information that was given at the time, that maybe there was someone capable of telling Dawn’s story and defending her in a compassionate and respectful manner.
Blackfish was a complete ‘180’ from what was originally presented to me. Now, it’s almost like my worst fears are unfolding in front of me. When I first spoke with Tim and Gabriela, I truly felt like they were as passionate about the animals’ welfare as I was. I felt they believed in the relationships and respected my experiences and insight.

And yet, the company said a record year would be announced.

Nothing about the "controversy" appears to have anything to do with the public at large.

I just don't see how these parks can ever recover from losing the draw of such popular acts.
Won't somebody think of the children? (or the whales in this case)
I can't have a drink at the prom, because RCMAC beat me to the punch.
The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

Finally Sea World has added a whole lot of information on their website to debunk Blackfish! There's an entire page titled "Truth About Blackfish" that addresses each accusation one at a time.

Also, there's a new blurb on MiceChat that points out a possible conflict of interest with an OSHA investigator (and key witness) seen in photo's hanging out with the group from Blackfish. I wonder if there there any OSHA ethics rules about this sort of thing. The connection could be nothing, but it seems fishy to me.

I just read this too, and what a big pile of awesome this is. Disclaimer: I work on a contractual basis for the company, but to suggest something nefarious is going on there is absurd. I'm glad they finally went on record and called out the nonsense.

Now Dawn Brancheau's family is speaking out against Blackfish:

Sea World is now on the offense and on a public relations full court press. Love it. Let the truth, and more imortantly balance, be told...
Not really... this stuff is all coming out from third parties. Remember, they're still in the midst of a lawsuit against OSHA, so it's not in their best interest to talk a lot. But we now have three former trainers speaking out, the family of the trainer who died speaking against the film, and now allegations that the OSHA inspector was pals with the film director.
It certainly sets the record straight as that being an extreme activist film, thin on facts, but it doesn't mean CNN will report it. Maybe it doesn't matter in terms of public perception, if those helicopter shots of cars backed up out of the SeaWorld lot over Christmas break are any indication.

There is the official statement from SeaWorld, too. It's pretty assertive, and I think it shows their stance quite well.
