FoF's 1st season

Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone notices any differences in FoF (PKD) besides the obvious (name change and restraints) of FoF from 1996 and 2002. Hard to believe its 6 years old...but i remember it being a lot scarier iniside the building, and the ride being a lot more in sync with music including the launch. I think maybe the station was darker inside and the people inside the tubes had names like elvis presly and such.....any insight on this? Thanks
anyone??

Well, I've been riding the one at PKI ever since it opened. The first year it opened it was PITCH black. I don't even remember any colored lights. I just remembered soaring around in total darkness. Now it's so light you can see everything. IMHO it was better when u couldn't see anything.

Also, the first season it was open they ran more than three trains. Now, no matter how long the wait, standard operational procedure seems to be two trains only. The mid-course brake run doesn't slow the train down anymore as it previously used to as well.

I completey agree Pablo. I went this year and you could see around the whole building. I thought to myslef, " this is meant to be rode in the dark" so I closed my eyes. Two years ago when I went I rode it and it was pitch black and the best ride I ever had on it.

yea ... someone mentioned that there used to be doors that opened right before it launched then they closed right after to insure pitch darkness..but i dunno

Well, I rode the same ride at PKI opening year and it never was pitch black inside. You could always look around and see all the track.

And as far as I can remember, there never was any music or theming after the launch.

Is the one at PKD dark?

The coaster @ pki didn't run pitch black opening season. The maintenance people are the only individuals who can determine how many lights are on inside the building. The lights are never really adjusted unless they are working on something. For instance, sometimes during Gold Pass ERT they will run fof with all lights out or all lights on simply because there are maintenance inside the building doing things....etc.

The coaster has never run more than three trains. Did it ever even run three???....Shaggy??? I've heard that the blocks were originally intended for 4 train operation but that it never happened.

There are three trains on site at pki but only two were retrofitted with lapbars. The third is used for parts.

This year at PKD it was in pitch black. Except a few lights and there was music.

84 coasters in Track Record!! Hypersonic XLC # 100 in July. Waiting for the 305 foot drop tower in 2003. Thank you PKD.

Im almost positive PKI used a three train operation all the way until the trains were retrofitted. I always saw on pki.com that it said FOF ran with 4 trains but I don't think they ever really ran it that way. Just like SOB can run with 3, which I think they need too, it only runs with 2. As for the lights, I don't remember it ever being pitch dark, I always remembered the color lights but just like Johnathan said sometimes you will ride with every light possible on or sometimes with barley any. Sometimes though I think mateinance forgets to turn off certain lights. Also, I do remember some kind of station music but not sure if it was set with the launch.

I know there were otsr to make alot of headbanging but did it make it worse since it was dark and you didn't know where you were going?

You're right Johnathan, I meant to type more than two trains. I guess I just got lucky with the lights out also. I didn't ride it much opening season. The line would be out past the Racer sometimes.
THERE WERE DOORS WHERE?

there weren't doors @ pki's fof. i rode it opening season many times. there were never doors. just a "huge" room with a spaceship in it.....until i realized that the room was only half as big as i thought it was. ;-)

All I remember is a headache for a week;) I remember first season it opened it wasnt pitch black it had purple, green and grey lights flashing around but near the bottom off the ride there were no lights at all.
Johnathan, are you talking about those mirrors in the que house. Those got me the first time too

First off, I've never ridden any FoF with Headrests, so I'm not sure how different it feels. But the ride is simply amazing. Throws you all over the place.

I was at PKD and did FoF in the front seat, it was the best experience I've had in awhile. I was thrown every which way, tons of air (Not air time). Ride front seat, its amazing up there!

OoOoOo...Rolley Coaster!

I don't know how many times I have rode FOF but I know that just about every time I have rode it the lights have been different. I have had no lights, all the lights, colored lights, lights just on the steps, a single light on the roof. The list goes on and on.

Yep the lights are always changing, I think it should be pitch black, but the lights look good there too.

RCTfan is lucky IMO to have never experienced the brain-rattling seastion of an OTSR on a spaghetti-bowl. Believe me, you're better off not knowing....Now, they really ARE that good.
