Flying scooters at Camden Park

Yes, Great America has one... actually, the same model Camden is getting
We stopped a Camden Park for the first time on our way home from HWN.

The Flyers are a new model like the ones at Hershey. I did manage a few snaps on them, but nothing that scared the crap out of me like some others I have ridden (Knoebels).

This was our first visit to Camden and I really enjoyed the park. Because the KY Rumbler was down on Friday when we were there, the Little Dipper became my 200th coaster :) ( I had it all planned for Voyage to be 200)

Somehow we missed riding the Whip. So I guess that means a return visit :)

In the future any trips to HW will include a stop at Camden on the return. Its a much nicer drive than going through Ohio and we avoid tolls on the PA Turnpike.

I was at Camden Park last Sunday. The scooters are VERY fun! Yes, you are allowed to snap. At least that is what the ride op told me.

Here are some pics......

They are located beside of the Indian Mound, where the old Tilt-A-Whirl used to be. They look like they had been newly painted.

Camden Park is REALLY looking better and better every year. I am glad you enjoyed the park, High Speed, and I do agree the ones at Knoebels scared the crap out of me as well. :-)

The Whip is one of my favorite rides at Camden. They really CRANK it up and you have to hold on for dear life sometimes. I am glad you liked the Dippers. They are truely priceless. No seatbelts, no seat dividers.......gotta love it!

I always thought the Little Dipper was one of the more *intense* kiddy coasters out there.

Thanks for the pics, The park really is looking better and better all the time (although the flying scooter paint job is pretty bland). What happened to the gable end of the whip building (the piece with the painted dominatrix snapping a whip)? It's nice to see that they restored the big clown sign to its original appearance by removing that message board from the bottom. Any idea if the neon still works (I've never been to Camden at night). It always appeared that the park was once covered in neat neon signs.

What's the current status of those pay toilets?

^LOL! I didn't have to pay to use the bathroom, thank goodness. ;-) Most of the coin machines were taped up, as you can see in the one picture. If I am not mistaken they did away with the "pay toilets" years ago. I just found it hilarious and decided to take a few photos anyway. ;-) I guess they just don't want to remove them from the stalls. I can only speak for the womens bathroom. :-)

I am not sure if the neon sign still works. Now that you mention it I wished I would of stayed longer just to see IF it still worked. I did notice that it was looking a LOT better, as well as the park itself. I am REALLY glad they removed all of the weeds and crap around the log flume. It looks SO much better, plus you don't have to worry about running into poison ivy, or snakes for that matter! They also had a huge problem with hornets around that area due to the overgrown weeds and brush.

I rode the log flume and was not scared of getting bitten or stung by something!

I am also glad they finally removed the Tbolt Express last year. I have no idea what they did with it, but it had been an eyesore for years.

I did notice the skyride was not working this time, neither was the Wildcat. Everything else was in great shape.

I never noticed the dominatrix thing. I will have to look through some older photos. :-) If it was removed I am sure someone complained about it.

Here's a picture of the whip building with the strange graphics!

I guess it is more of an animal trainer judging by the large black cat. But why is the woman holding a pistol?

I haven't been to Camden since 2003, and the toilet pay thing was covered over. But you never know when might start using them again!

Flying scooter look like cheep pieces of junk!
Oh but to see them in action is a thing of beauty!

I guess you're not the only one to take photos inside park bathrooms LOL... At least you're not in a Cedar Fair park.

Dental Plan! Lisa Needs Braces.

I have a picture of the communal trough from Bushkill. I wonder if that survived the flood.

Thanks for the picts, and no kidding.. it sure does look bland! I guess Im used to seeing the triangular supports at the bottom, but with the Larsons, you don't need it.

You guys just need to try them before you judge. :-)

I've never been to Camden yet, though I'm only as far away as Kennywood country. How are the flyers vs. PKI's dear departed?

I had a beuuuutiful ride on Conneaut's flyers over Memorial Day weekend - flyer heaven. I spent 7 hours or so on those things.

The CLP flyers have really improved from last year. Loads of snaps (almost every single time on most trips), and every car was good for it. The park manager ran them part of the time, gave us long trips and only smiled and nodded as we were hoppin' and poppin' all over the place.

The ride was so good, we almost "forgot" to ride the Blue Streak (but glad we did ride: the Vettel train is on again and we got big airtime that night).

I'll be back for more flyer action during the Streak marathon, and hope the bug's up too.

^I have to admit that I like Knoebel's flyers the best, but Camden's, Stricker's, and the ones that were at PKI come in to a close second. ;-)
How do the Premier ones at Paramamount's Great America compare to the Larson and orginal flyers.

-Jake

Those are Larsons, Premier was just the vendor. Zamperla is now and perhaps others.

I know an employee from Camden and he runs the scooters. He has worked there for several years now and he says he can definitely tell that the park has improved greatly since he started there. With the addition of the scooters and the other attractions, I'm going to have to make a trip this year. The little dipper was my first credit and the big dipper my second credit. Back in junior high school (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away), we used to do a spring field trip to Camden. Great memories. Used to be the best skeeball in town. I also used to love the rollerskating rink that burned down. :(
coasterqueenTRN's avatar
^I probably met that ride op. The guy I talked to was very friendly, as all the employees were.

The Dippers were my first coasters as well I believe.....either that or the coasters at the Family Kingdom and the now defunct Magic Harbor at Myrtle Beach.

The skeeball still rocks. ;-) I barely remember the rollerskating rink. The park went through A LOT of hard times in the 90's. I am still kind of bummed the Thunderbolt Express is no longer there, but if they were not going to fix it at least they removed it.

I just can't wait for the day when they get a new coaster. A spinning mouse would fit well in that park, but that's just my opinion. :-)

-Tina

^The Scooters guy actually lives in my apartment building. He is a very nice guy. I'm always asking him about how running the scooters is going. He likes it so far.

I agree that a spinning wild mouse would fit in well. I could see some other quality flats being added too. Nothing too large, as I don't see it as that kind of park.
