And we're a family that travels to amusement parks!
As for the 4th quarter profit, Halloweekends certainly helps, but they've been going on a long time at CP, and by themselves were never going to generate a 4Q profit for CF. It helps to have a couple of properties that can draw year-round: Knott's, its resort hotel, and Castaway Bay.
Remember: CP lowered admission in response to falling attendance and changing demographics. Fewer people were finding the park a good value. Maybe it's because there hasn't been much installed in the past six years to draw the whole family?
Compare CP's installations to PKI's, and you'll see what I mean.
Don't get me wrong, I *am* a CP fanboy, but everything is not wine and roses in Sandusky, and even management realizes this.

I could give a crap about this new focus on the family....I'm sitting here as an enthusiast(a coaster enthusiast not a park enthusiast) thinking "Is the golden age over"?
I checked your track record and you're way short of having a record where you could be honestly jaded. You only have 123 coasters listed, and most of those are at major parks [I apologize for not having my 151 listed. I do plan on becoming a member one of these days]. I'd give you a pass if you haven't updated your track record. There are so many parks that you haven't been to.
How about Knoebels for example? For someone who claims to be an enthusiast, to not have ridden the Phoenix points out what a lightweight you are at this point. When are you planning on going to New England so you can ride one of the best steel hypers (S:ROS) and one of the best out-and-back woodies (Boulder Dash)? I don't say any of this to be mean, but to point out that you've got a long way to go.
Coasters don't have to be new to be golden. There are tons of small parks across America that have hidden gems to be ridden. And once you run out of coasters in the U.S., you've got Canada, Europe, Australia, South America, Africa and Japan to conquer. *** Edited 2/20/2006 2:08:24 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***
Well SFMM is the *extreme* example. Most SF parks are a better example of attractions that appeal to everyone. I'm not sure I'd put CP in that category either. Some SF parks have a better variety than CP does IMO. So the fact that Shapiro wants *even those* parks to have a better variety, must mean he'll be workin overtime to shore up SFMM's collection of flats, shows and "non coastery" things. ;)

I'm sorry, but any *real* (non-self-respecting) fanboy would NEVER admit that anything is less than 110%....please hand over your credentials...LOL! :)
"OMFG!!! YOU haven't even been to BGT??? How can you even call yourself a coaster enthusiast when you haven't even rode KUMBA???"
That sound silly, doesn't it? No offense intended, I Fan
I think what Mr. Nacho's is trying to say is that he is more of a coaster enthusiast than a theme/amusement park enthusiast.
It's all about tact Mocho.
Oh...and SFMM sucks...lol.

Hell, by this standard, despite having nearly (maybe even over, I haven't kept good count lately) 200 coasters under the belt, even *I* would not qualify as an enthusiast, since I havent ridden any of these (and none are in my immediate plans either).
See, RGW, I *told* you I'm not one of y'all! ;)

jeremy, you make it to SpringCon, we'll get ya on the twin to *your* RoS....it'll make you a better enthusiast... :)
Once more, with feeling....coaster count, whether it be for a park or an individual, means NOTHING! Why does it take a FOOTBALL guy to show the way?
I may have roughly twice as many coasters as jeremy, but I'm only half the man he is... ;)
:)

Is there a list of certain coasters you have to have ridden to not be considered a "light weight"? Or is it just limited to those three? I'm not being rhetorical here, I'd really like an answer.

Meh, go ride Nyquil.... :)
I'm hoping SFMM really shows that they're taking steps on the road to this "improvement" we're hearing so much about...I'll let ya know in a few short weeks...
P.S. That first ride on Predator, front-row, made me wonder why there's so much complaining...every other row/ride made me stop wondering...but I'm going back in May, this time SPECIFICALLY to get the last of the *holy triumvirate*... ;)

As for Thunderhead or Tremors, that *is* a tough call. While I think Silverwood's got the better WOOD, knowing how YOU feel about, say, BGW, HP, etc., I think Dolly's got the better overall *package* for you...plus it's easily doable in a weekend trip, while Idaho is, well, in Idaho... :)
So, anyone see Flashback run yet?
