First member to ride TTD

Jeff,

I don't want to start a new topic in one of the other forums but... I will stake my claim as one of the first CB members to be able to ride TTD. As a member of the media (WOSU) I am scheduled to ride on May 1st, probably around 9:30 or 10:00. I'm retired Air Force and have been asked to compare it to a max climb out in an F-16 (I'm not a pilot but have ridden in an F-16). Can't wait. Comments from the group?

Quite a few Buzzers will be there for media day, sounds liek loads of fun.

Ah what the hell.....Magnum What?

S:ROS blew me away

Do you want a medal or a cookie? Seriously tho, I'm still investigating the possibility of hitching a ride there May 1st with someone who works there, in which case, I might catch you at about the same time in the morning!

Why should anyone care? I'll be there at 5:30 a.m. Anyone wanna praise me and tell me how great I am?

Excuse the sarcasm, but I just don't understand what you hope to accomplish by bringing it up.

Medals? I have a whole display case of them. Cookies? Don't care unless they have chocolate chips in them. Smart a** comments, I'll leave to you children, maybe someday you'll grow up. You're right it dosen't matter and no one should care and after all I did ask to be worshiped .

Rich,

When it's all said and done, I will appreciate you and the men and women of our armed forces 10x more for what you have done for this great country than anything any person will ever accomplish running a rolleycoaster website.

Forgive the runon sentence and God Bless the USA.

Is it the real yellow or the yellow that they had on the coaster cars??

Rich: OK, maybe it was a little harsh, but what were you expecting? The online discussion regarding media events gets worse every year because it leads to two distinct problems:

1) Envy. It pisses people off when other people get to do something cool, and even worse, it's thrown in their face. Maybe you haven't seen it happen before, perhaps because we stop it before it gets out of control, but it's too frequent an occurence.

2) Bad news for PR. Everytime someone even brings up a media event online that park's PR department gets slammed with phone calls and e-mail from every kid who has a Web site or writes for their college newspaper. When that happens, it puts enthusiasts in a non-favorable light.

I doubt your intentions were anything but pure, but that's what happens when you start putting stuff out there about going to media events.

Point well taken! Mums the word , but you still can't wipe the smile off my face - even at my age! Maybe its gas!

No... I'm only 30, and gas and riding coasters both make me smile. When I can do both at the same time, well, those are special moments (for me anyway, not so much for the people behind me).

It's also one of those "of the moment" things. As cool as it is to be among the first to ride, it won't matter one bit by the end of the season. Even less so in a couple years. I happen to remember the hype around MF and how there were a gazillion "I got to ride at media day" or "I rode the first day" or "You're just riding it for the first time now in June? Sheesh, I rode it all the way back in May" or whatever posts all over the internet. Here we sit three years later and no one would care one bit whether you rode on media day, the first season or the last day of the 2002 season.

It's fun and seems meaningful now, but it wears off real quick. Heck, I was probably one of the first 100 or so general public riders on S:UF at SFGAdv the other day when it opened to the public for the first time. Truth is - it already doesn't matter.

It's one of those "competition" things among enthusiasts that I don't understand.
