Speaking of MTV, here is a list of the first 10 videos played when the channel debuted:

1."Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles
2."You Better Run" by Pat Benatar
3."She Won't Dance with Me" by Rod Stewart
4."You Better You Bet" by The Who
5."Little Suzi's on the Up" by Ph.D.
6."We Don't Talk Anymore" by Cliff Richard
7."Brass in Pocket" by The Pretenders
8."Time Heals" by Todd Rundgren
9."Take It On the Run" by REO Speedwagon
10."Rockin' the Paradise" by Styx

The rest of the list can be seen here.

The best memory I have of MTV, is the headbangers ball.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The best memory I have of MTV, is the headbangers ball.

When I was in high school in the early 80's, my buddy Don in Hoboken was the only one of our little group who had MTV. We always headed over there and set up camp for hours in front of the TV (homework? What's that?)...in hope of seeing J. Geils' Centerfold video. Of course, we often had to settle for Human League's Don't You Want Me. Great song, stupid video.

I miss the Chance Twister

Lakemont Park still has one. It's the only one I've ridden, but it was rather fun despite people saying it's slow by Twister standards.

Last year, I rode that unrestrained. Op didn't check on me. It was nice.

Considering all the ride forces on a Chance Twister are directed into the seat I can see how one can ride it safely without restraint...so long as you remained seating.

Keansburg Amusement Park has/had a Twister that was manually operated (Lakemonts isn't).

One ride i miss is the Rock-o-plane, they had one at my county fair for two years two to three years ago. i keep hoping theyr gonna bring it back and so far they havent =( . for anyone who hasnt seen one, its like a ferris wheel but each seat has a cage around it and you can pull a ring towards you (which is attached to a handle and in effect raises an attached bar the operator uses) and when pulled the cage locks in place allowing you to go upside down, and if you do it good u can do 2 flips every revolution........Or when the guy is loading people and if ur in the perfect spot, you can be sitting upside down while he unloads n loads one cage. XD

Yes, I am, in fact, a ninja. Savvy?

There are still several of Rock-O-Planes a-rockin'. Sylvan Beach, Arnold's Park, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and Lakeside Park to name a few.

Sadly the Keansburg Twister is no more, but I'm not sure I want to ride it after the ride Moosh and Dawn Marie got.

I seem to remember Erieview had a Roll-o-Plane right up until it closed a few years ago. Man, those rides are/were harsh.

That's the only cool ride that the fairs around my area (Huntington WV) ever have. Every time I see a Roll-o-Plane, I cringe, because I consider it a poor man's Zipper.

Zipper's are amazing! I rarely get to ride one of those.

Cue Moosh.... ;)

The Roll-O-Plane and the Zipper have basically nothing in common...? I mean, it's like comparing apples to table fans.

I mean, the Roll-O-Plane doesn't even invert, for crying out loud! And its tub motion is *entirely* predictable. Zipper, on the other hand, is entirely chaotic and can flip like crazy.

Well, they do flip on the same axis, and they do move in the same direction, like a Ferris Wheel. Zipper is a cross between a Ferris Wheel and a Whip. Roll-o-Plane is a cross between a Ferris Wheel and a Zipper, in my opinion.

And your description describes why I prefers Zippers over Roll-o-Plane's perfectly.

There is some similarity in ride motion between a Rock-O-Plane and a Zipper. A Zipper might be desribed as a Rock-O-Plane out of control (at least the passenger's control).

LK, are you thinking of a Loop-O-Plane, Rock-O-Plane or a Roll-O-Plane? BIG difference. And I know you're not thinking of a Fly-O-Plane.

Eyerly made four "O-Plane" models:

Fly-O-Plane.

Roll-O-Plane.

Loop-O-Plane.

Rock-O-Plane.

I love the Roll-O-Plane. I wish Lakeside would put theirs back up.

'Moosh pretty much beat me to it, but yeah, LostKause, I think you (not surprisingly) have your *-O-Planes mixed up. The Roll-O-Plane does not flip *at all*. It has two cars, one at each end of a long boom, and as the boom rotates, the car rolls 180 degrees so that it is upright in the top position, then it rolls back as it comes back down on the other side. That roll motion continues as the head is tilted back until the ride is rotating on a vertical axis, at which point the cars roll back and forth through 180 degrees from head-left to head-up to head-right and back again. It never gets past 90 degrees relative to the ground.

The Loop-O-Plane has two cars on separate, counterweighted booms, like a miniature version of, say, Kennywood's Aero 360.

The Rock-O-Plane looks like a Ferris wheel, but each enclosed car has a brake so that the rider can clamp his car to the hub so that it will flip over. Like the Zipper, all of the motion on the Rock-O-Plane is in the same...er...plane, and as on the Zipper the car axle is just above the seat, near the rider's center of mass, so that the car is a little unstable and will flip easily. Unlike a Zipper, the Rock-O is built on a wheel, so it lacks the whip action that the Zipper can produce at the ends of the boom. I suspect this is the *-O-Plane you're thinking of.

I'm talking about the Rock-o-Plane, thanks to Moosh's links (Thanks Moosh ;) ).
