Eye candy: Flight of Fear without shoulder restraints

Posted | Contributed by Peabody

Here's is the photographic evidence you wanted regarding Paramount's Kings Dominion's Flight of Fear. Now, you can do without the head banging:

Visit Sam A. Marks for the photos.

[CoasterBuzz has confirmed that the same arrangement with lap bars has been made at Kings Island on their Flight of Fear. -J]

Is it just me or is there very little space to place your feet. That orange base looks pretty confining.
Six Flags? Are you listening??? This would absolutely improve Mr. Freeze about 95%, if not more... I can only imagine.

On revolution they better get them, now since this ride has 4 inversions with just a lap bar
dont expect this on The Chiller, itll be rough no matter what, even though it go a little smoother...
i wonder how it feels to go through a cobra roll with a lap bar?

are you ready to go vertical?...V2 SFMW 2001 ...
Shivering Tim, I may be misinterpreting your post, and you may already know this, but Premier Rides designed the trains for Son of the Beast, hence the same lapbars. 2Hostyl, the third inversion happens right after the cobra roll. This piece of track faces the station and leads into a small corkscrew in the upper section.
Ok SFSTL, see it can be done...no relinquish us from the OTHR on Mr. Freeze.

I am so happy that the OSTR's were removed from FoF. I will be heading to PKD in about a week or two and will be riding Hypersonic and FoF. I hated the OSTR's on FoF. They were so uncomfortable and did not have enough remove for the arms. I am a small person, 5'5" and I had no room to lift my arms in the air or anything and FoF was annoying and extremely rocky. Everytime I went through the LIM or through the inversions, my head would bang against the OSTR's. I'm glad they are removed and I can't wait to ride the new and improved FoF. I know that regualr coaster riders that are not enthusiasts may be afraid to ride looping coasters without shoulder restraints because people feel that the harnesses keep people in the ride but they don't. The gravity pushes people back into their seats and everything is fine. Take SOB for an example. I just can't wait to hit an amusement park. It's been too long of a winter.

PKI making all the right moves in 2001! ;)
The new and improved FOF sounds a heck of a lot better than the old one. The ride reviews that I have read were telling you to bring advil. Now it sounds like an extremely smooth coaster. Can't wait to ride it Saturday.

HypersonicXLC Rocks!!!
Hersheypark's Sooperdooperlooper is another Schwarzkopf looper that doesn't have over the shoulder restraints. Its also a pretty tame ride too, but none the less a classic.

I-Fan, I was just trying to be sarcastic about having a multi-looper w/out OTSRs.

This is my fifth year working at PKI, I operated FoF for two years, "I even found my bride to be on that ride" and its great that they finally made some improvements. After riding it more than a hundred times I'm looking forward to riding it with this awesome change.

I'm glad they put lap bars on the ride. It will be much more comfortable that way, but I wish they would have put T-bars on it like the ones on Millennium Force.
That looks great. I hope they do the same for Jokers Jinx at SFA since it is the same company who makes the ride, and technically the same ride.

I'm a SFA Fanatic.
Peabody & Intamin Fan: Thanks, I dont know why I never really noticed the 'sidewinder' right after the cobra roll. Maybe is was caused by too much headbanging-disorientation on JJ and the darkness of FOF. I will pay particular attention to this section on my next FoF/JJ ride.
Are the seats new on it, because from what remember, (Ive only ridden it once), I couldn't see ahead of me at all (I'm 5'10") because of the seat in front of me!
coastersrz:

Wanna hear a story on insurance companies, Schwarzkopf, and Carowinds - they all have one thing in common:

When White Lightning opened as the first launched coaster in the US, many insurance companies worried about the lap bar restraints. Schwarzkopf got pissed that the insurance is doing too much to roller coasters and took the insurance companies to Carowinds for a ride on White Lightning. Well, the insurance companies never knew that Schwarzkopf intentionally braked in the loop for this special occasion. The insurance companies enjoyed the ride up till the vertical loop where they stopped up-side down.. all without OTSR's! I guess this got some insurance companies convinced..

Pretty cool story?

maybe the next time i go to PKI i wont have to drag an industrial-size can o' aspirin with me. Now how bout fixin King Cobra?
OTSR's weren't always required for inversions, look at SFOG's Mindbender or BGT's Scorpion. Having now ridden FOF at PKI with lapbars, I can safely say that this should revolutionize the way the industry views safety restraint systems.
