Atari announced yesterday that the first expansion for the strategy game RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 will ship this June for the PC. The expansion will be titled RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Soaked! and is being developed by British studio Frontier Developments, the team behind RCT3.

hmmm, i know i do, sounds a bit hoaky, I don't think its worth it just yet.
Redman, you said you had 2 GB of memory? WTF are you doing with 2 GB of memory? 1 GB is really all you need, anything more than that really doesn't help because your processor has a limit you know. But you must be doing something wrong. There is no reason why RCT3 shouldn't run anything short of amazing on a computer like that. Or you could just be joking, which i hope you are.
Yes, I do have 2GB of memory. Why? because I wanted it and it didn't cost that much more, plus I am working on doing some video editing and it does help there a lot.

As for my processor having limits, I haven't seen any limits in any other game other than RCT3. With Doom3 running timedemo at 1600x1200 with 4x anti aliasing on, I get 90+ FPS.

If you want to see what I am talking about for RCT performance, take a look at this thread...

It's not my configuration that sucks, it's the coding of RCT3. I don't know wTF they did but if it cripples a high end system like mine with a detailed park loaded, there's something majorly wrong. Now note, the small parks in the scenarios run "fine", but with Gonch's mega parks, I can count the FPS. (BTW, his largest sandbox park is only 1/4 of the maximum that RCT3 has for square footage.)

I think an expansion for RCT 2 with more rides would be nicer. I have rct3 and hardly ever play it as much as I did 1/2. It runs ok I just think the 3D looks 2 cartoony. Reminds me of Sims Coaster only a little less annoying. I guess what I'm saying is the old format is better even though it may be less high tech.

I disagree that memory is necessary for video editing. Avid Xpress Pro works great on 512 MB.

Pinnacle studio 9 runs fine on 512MB, as well.
My question to everyone complaining about performance:

Have you tried Patch #2 yet? It did wonders for my system. If you haven't tried that yet, you should. Also before everyone bashes the expansion, how about we see what they do with it first this time? They are actually having a Betatest of the product (gasp!) this time around.

So I have high hopes for it. I think the testing will help, the game will obvisouly have large parts of it rewritten to accomodate the waterslides and pools so there is room in there for improved performace changes as well. Not to mention how good the light rays underwater and the waterfalls look. And parachutes people...parachutes! :) I've been waiting for that ride since the very first RCT.

Yes they blew it the first time around with the premature RCT3 release. But that doesn't mean the second time around will be the same. I'm at least willing to keep an open mind at this point.

Meh, just give it some viagra ;)

yes, patch 2 is loaded
RCT3 isnt as terrible as some make it out to be, I dont think. 3D is a whole new experience with RCT. Sure, it's kinda upsetting that they didnt add more features other than a rotating camera, but it could have been worse. The expansions with RCT2 were just sick.

And I agree with a redman. The game auto-set my computer to the highest settings possible, but it still lags. And I have the video card and memory to handle it. (Radeon 9800Pro and 768MB RAM)
