Ever find a good coaster by accident?

Mind Bender, GA Cyclone and GA Scorcher.
It proved to me that bigger doesn't always mean better.

Not so much by accident, but the Scandia Screamer. 90' Miler coaster near the Ontario, CA, airport. Big airtime, big laterals, loads of headchoppers. Wish there were more of those Hi-Milers around.

I agree. My wife and I stopped at Lakemont last May after a trip to Kennywood. We rode Leap-the-dips because of its "historical significance"... and I do not believe I ever laughed so hard on a coaster in my life. Same with Skyliner. Talk about an under-rated little gem of a coaster.

Two others that took me by surprise. Knoebels Pheonix. I looked at it and thought "hmmmm, looks kind of small." But what a ride! Busch Gardens Tampa's Scorpion. Got in line to ride it becuase it was a coaster and you know you just have to ride it... but I wasn't expecting such a fun ride. Some of those helices are wicked!

Another suprise I had in Fla was Dueling Dragons. I had high expectations for this coaster, and I was surprised how let down I was by what seemed liek a mediocre ride at best.

janfrederick, & Shivering Tim said it, and I agree. Scandia's Screamer. One of the few coasters that I actually got a little bit scared on.

On the flip side, in 1998, I was right there, AT LAKEMONT, but did not know squat about coasters. The Skyliner looked "small, old & ratty," so I decided not to ride it. I have been kicking myself ever since hearing how good Skyliner really is. :(

Cyclops and Zeus at Big Chief. I wasn't planning to ride them, but I decided to try them anyway, and they were great! I almost missed them since my friend said there were no coasters around there, and the only reason I ended up there was because my brother wanted to go on some go k/carts. Also, Superman Krypton Coaster @ SFFT. I didn't even know it existed when I went.

A few seasons ago, when the trees were in full bloom, you couldn't really see the Grizzly @ PKD, I didn't know it was a coaster! Now itis my top woodie!
I just got back from vegas and i rode Manhattan and i also loved it. i rode everything in vegas but i didn't bother to go all the way out to desparado, i thought it would be a waste of time. I have ridden the best coasters in the world, and desperado looked pretty weak.

Desperado is anything but weak! Bad choice not to make the 40min trip.
I'm with Jeff on this one. Exterminator at Kennywood is like awsome! I didn't expect that good of a ride.

When we went to Cedar point, we got off magnum and we were heading for mean streak. we stopped instead and we rode Gemini. Me and my bros and my uncle were in the back with the camera on opposite trains and it was awesome. It wasn't scary at all but it was way more fun than i thought. I guess that i didn't find it by accident but i rode a coaaster that i would have missed if i didn't try it. duh?

I "found" shockwave at sfot by accident. I didn't think it was going to be too cool, but went on it while my brother and sister went on a rapids ride. I dragged them on it 2 more times, what a cool ride it was!
I agree with Jeff about the Exterminator. When my family stopped at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, I almost spent my tickets on flat rides, but I decided to ride the Giant Dipper, and it turned out to be one of the best coasters I've ever ridden, in fact I want back and spent three more dollars to ride it again!
