Events of 9/11

Not that I am surprised, but the September issue of an in-flight magazine on a major US airlines was conspicuously void of any mention of 9/11, compared to the newsstand in the terminal which had more 9/11 special issues of magazines than one could digest in one flight.

As far as I know, no parks have schduled any kind of event or memorial service. As a previous poster indicated, rollercoasters and amusement parks are fun and all, but I don't think that peoples minds will be on amusements on that day. That said, at least where I live their was a lengthy list in the paper today of tribute services at various venues around town. Namely churches, universities, city parks, firehouses, VFW and Legion halls, that type of thing.

We're open weekend-only at this point, but our entertainers will be taking part in a tribute in Evansville Tuesday evening at Mesker Park Amphitheater. It will be broadcast live and commercial-free on our NBC affiliate, WFIE-TV, beginning at 6:28 pm CT. (Just in case anyone local is reading and can tune in or attend.)

Our entertainers will be performing a 15-minute musical tribute to the US Armed forces, the second-half of our show, "American Praise." We're really proud of them.

God bless America!

I was at home at the time because our school only had half days for people that weren't taking the ISTEP. It's a state-wide test given in Indiana and determines if you pass the grade. I found that many people couldn't finish with their tests because they couldn't concentrate anymore.

That whole morning was surreal because every single form of radio and TV went to a standstill and broadcast the news anchors.

I remember being in history class, and our teacher just walked in and, surprisingly nonchalantly, told us, "I don't know if you guys heard, but a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center."

That was at 9:43, and we knew absolutely nothing because our high school, unlike our middle school, has no incoming live television service.

It was in Band next period, at 10:25, that we just started to realize what was happening, and by that point it was all gone already.

Unbelievable that it's been a year. I still remember everything that happened like it was yesterday...I guess things like that just tend to stick with you whether you want them to or not. But I'm glad that, while we've begun to move on, we as a country generally have not forgotten what happened that day. It's still important to us that we always remember and never forgive, which I think is something that a lot of news stations haven't quite touched on yet.

I was in "Music Appreciation" class. It was the 2nd class of the day. The class is held in a differ building then the school. So, there was no T.V., no radio no nothing. I walked in and I saw my buddies sitting there at a table so I sat down with them. We started talking and then some of the popular people came in and starting talking about two plans flying in to the World Trade Centers. I was like what the heck are the World Trade Centers. I honestly didn't know them by name and the only way I remembered them is because someone said "twin towers" and I remember when I was littler I watched Nickelodeon and on Nickelodeon they had a guy named Stick Stickly. Stick Stickly was looking for his lost brother in New York and he was comparing himself and his twin with the World Trade Centers. Well, anyway, I didn't think anything of it. Stuff happens and I still didn't know what the World Trade Centers were. Well, I started play the keyboard and somehow my teacher went out of the room and went to the actual school building. So, all of us kinds, frosh -senior, where playing our keyboards when all of the sudden our teacher comes running in says with the most stern/seriouse look I have ever seen. You would have thought that that he saw Jesus Christ. He said that "they just got the Pentagon." That was his exact words and they stick in my mind to this day. I didn't know what he ment. I wasn't really concerned until he said that. So, we all went over to the school and went on the third floor and we sat and watched the history unfold before our eyes. You really couldn't know the severity of the even unless you saw it. Words could not describe it. It was so unreal. If it was that bad on TV many miles away it had to be 100 times worse live. Looking around the room watching peoples reactions, I was surprised to see that no one really cared about this. I was one of the few that really was paying attention. It was horrible. Not only to see the events but to see that not that many people cared. Then they started pointing out suspects and naming Osama the person who did it. Heck, I didn't even know who he was. I was shielded from all these things until that day. I still wish I was.
I was in American History Class when it happened. Kinda odd AMERICAN HISTORY. 2nd period. We had no clue at the time until about 4th period. The teachers weren't aloud to turn on the TV's so we had no clue how bad it was or what anything was happening. It was hard because they told us about the planes crashing but nothing else throughout the day. When I got home I watched TV the whole night. Terrible site. Two of my cousins saw it all happen. Luckily they're both okay. I'll never forget the photoage of people on jumping out of the buildings hoping they'd live..... absolutely terrible.
I was in gym, man, I cannot even believe it was a year ago.

Eminem....where do you live that you could see it happen? Because i live on Staten Island, and i saw everything happen. It looked as if i were watching an IMAX movie of Independence day. thats how scary it looked.

I was in English when I first heard about it, then I switched classes to US History (fitting class to be in) when the towers collapsed.

9-11 is something every American is going to have to deal with in their own special way. Some may want to block the day completely out, while some want a full day memorial. One thing we have to remember is while we are honoring our fallen Americans, we must not let the tragic events affect much of our everyday lives, or the terrorists have won.

First, let me give you some background. For those of you who dont live in/around Cincinnati, a local radio station does a fireworks display on Labor Day on the Ohio River. This year, before they started, they had a moment of silence and they had a beautifully done fireworks display that was half themed to New York. I applaud all who were involved with that because it really captured the true mentality of the American people.

I was also in my math class. We were listening to it on the radio though.

I was watching it on tv at school, never seen something that sad in my life, never.
Danny I live in the Cincinnati Ohio area. Sorry to have confused you.
This is strange because I was in math class too, I will never forget the first images of the second plane hitting the tower.
I didn't find out until after the towers had collapsed. I hadn't turned my TV on all morning and after I got ready to go to work, I turned on the news station to hear the weather. I was basically hit with everything at once because the station was recapping everything that had happened that morning. My first thoughts were that either it was fake or it was the end of the world, but then I decided that I'd be needed at work. I was scheduled to work at the Monorail station at the Magic Kingdom that day. I found one of my managers at the station and told him that I had my costume with me (I entered through the Magic Kingdom's cast entrance because I knew I could get there faster that way) so he told me not to worry about clocking in or anything like that and to just get into costume and get on the platform. Local authorities told park officials to evacute the parks because they were considered potential targets and not all planes had been accounted for yet. The evacuation was actually pretty easy because the guests were all very calm and cooperative. Once the park had been evacuated, we only ran the monorails between the resorts, but it also goes by the park's entrance. It was really strange to see the park empty at would have normally been the middle of its operating day.
I was in 2nd period Geometry when a teacher came in and told us that a plane crashed into the WTC and then she came back and said it was terrorists. We listened to the radio and then in 3rd period French we watched on t.v. Our substitute yelled at us to do our work and turn off the t.v. That really pissed a lot of people off.
I'm part of the older crowd. I was in high school and watched the Challeger blow up, while knowing that one of my teachers at Arkansas High in Texarkana, Arkansas was one of the few to be chosen as a backup astronaut on the shuttle that morning. Years later I saw the towers fall, along with the rest of the world. I still have big time emotional problems with seeing both of these moments in history replayed on T.V..For some reason when they mention on T.V. anything about the towers I have to look away, or leave the room. I still cry. I guess I always will..Everyone should pause for a minute. I'm locking the door to my store for a couple of minutes to listen for the bells that are being asked to be rang at that time. My heart still hurts. 2001 was not a good year for me.

I was in English when the planes hit. We sat through class listening to it on the radio in stunned silence. When the bell rang for that class to be over, our small high school (only about 90-100 people) went next door to the chemistry teacher's house to watch it happen on TV. That's when we saw the towers fall. It seems like it happened only a week ago instead of a year.

-----------------

I was in Algebra, taking a test. Our teacher didn't say anything, but when i was in Spanish class, i watched it all unfold. Both towers fall, and the plane hitting the Pentagon. All i could think about was if my cousin was safe, because he worked in the Pentagon. My next class was Civics. We had a test in that, that everyone bombed, by then parents were picking students up. We had a substitute teacher, who wouldn't turn on the T.V., which pissed everyone off. Then we caught word that a plane had crashed in Somerset County, about 30 miles from our school. My dad picked me up before the end of the period. We listened to the radio on the way home, I could tell he was scared to death, and to be truthful, I was too. My dad is part of the locale fire company, and they took a couple of trucks up filled with guys to help in New York. If we Americans ever forget that day, it will be a sad day for the country. Let us never forget, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
i have noticed that the high schools did not let their people see what was about to change their lives forevever. i can understand not letting K-5, know 1000's of people just died, but not to let let 6-12, students not know, or see what happened is unreal. this is my last post on this subject because my heart hurts.

3 out of the 4 voices in my head say, go for it!

I was at work busily loading a tube bender. We have the radio on in our factory when all of a sudden the news came on. Everything in the factory stopped. 400 people all stopped what they were doing, some returned to work, others sat down on the floor floored at what had happened. The break room soon filled with people as the radio is much easier to hear there.

On the way home we walked out and looked up as 2 F-16's from the 111th fighter wing of the Ohio Air national guard flew over. One of my co workers looked at me and said "Do they always fly with Missiles on the wings?"

Each and everyone of us were shocked and everyone took it differently. Up until that moment that was the scariest day of my life.
