Euclid Beach/Shady Lake Flat Rides

Yes, the are made by Arrow.
Jackie...you have a distinct advantage over me, as I never saw the Mouse in question; I was merely guessing based on description. But all the earlier mice, whether Mack, Schiff, or Herschell, had inline seating (and yes, Lakemont's mouse has inline seating).

The Herschell mice (Mad Mouse, Monster Mouse) are portable, all-steel mice. The Mouse I rode out in Vancouver is either a Mack or a Schiff (I don't know which) and is significantly larger, and is also all steel. I believe Schiff built both wood-tracked and steel tracked Mice, but I am not sure.

And if you ever catch me saying something that you know isn't or might not be correct, I certainly won't feel bad if you correct me! :)

Joe E, The PTC carousel from "The Beach" is back in Ohio and being restored in Mansfield. It will be installed in a new all weather building in the Cleveland area.
Sweet!

There was a rumor that the Carousel would be placed near the Roch n Roll hall of fame. Its a very beautiful Carousel!

On an unrelated side note, I wish SFO would put back the Rocket Ships. That is the only remaining ride of its kind in the USA. (not including the new rocket ships built at California Adventure)
Well, Kennywood has a set, and little benown to the public, there is another..............
The Rocket Ships at Kennywood were dismantled because the structure had deteriorated to the point of being unsalvageable. The only the rockets themselves were saved. The last time I saw them they were stacked by the Jackrabbit in the maintanence yard.
Euclid Beach Park was a childhod playground for me. I wish I could close my eyes and be back in the park for a day. It holds many great memories and one especially is the laughing fat lady in one of the best fun houses ever. I know we are talking mainly about the great rides but I feel Euclid Beach had by far one of the best fun houses of our day.

Yeah, Euclid Beach to me is the "best park I have never been to" My parents would tell me about all the rides and the Laugh in the dark.

Thriller, have you seen the 3 videos on the park and read both books?

If not, you must get your hands on them!

I feel bad that I could have never experienced this place.

At least I had two trips to Shady lake!
I have both books and saw 2 of the video's. I wanna go :( I remember my Grandparents telling me stories about how clean, fun and inexpensive this place was. They even said it was better than Cedar Point at the time.

I saw Laughing Sal in a window at the Cleveland Arcade once. I'm sure she's still around.

Recently at school we had to wright a report on Euclid Beach Park. It really was a place for everyone from what I learned. The dancing hall for couples, then the great state of the art rides for its time. you could tell that it held a place in everybodys hearts because most that talk about it say great things and become teary eyed because it isnt there anymore. All that stands is the Euclid Beach Park entrace which I have seen. It is so sad that a great, clean, family oriented, and fun park was destroyed. :(

Unfortunatly, Euclid was a victim of the changing times.
I did a speech on "THe Beach" and my class was really intrigued by it. I think if they rebuilt the park it would be great. I'm guessing it would cost about 300 million dollars to buy all the land back and rebuild it. Most of the land is a state park anyway. Let me put it this way, I'm only 14, but if I ever become the Bill Gates of the 21 century I know what I'll do with my money. Also, wouldn't that be great for downtown. It could anchor the East Side of the Lake Front.

I recently took a stroll out to the old park (Euclid Beach) a couple of weeks ago. It is now part high rise apartments and part state park.

It was my first time on the property. I had hoped I would have felt a little "something" regarding the old park. I tried to imagine just where the Flying Turns and Thriller may have been located, but couldn't. The park closed when I was only a one year old babe.

The old pier, or what's left of it, still remains on the property as well as what used to be the location of the fountain on the beach, now looking like a large, round sandbox.

And, of course, the famous and historical arch still graces the entrance but now to the high rise apartment complex.

I wish I could have experienced the park just once.

Coasting Ohio,
Maybe when Cleveland rebuilds the ake front you can pursuade them to add a few rides. Aren't they already addin the Euclid Beach merry-go-round? They decided not to add in that big ol steel barge and a fight is happening between them and the city.

Perhaps if they built up the Rock N roll area like a "Navy Pier" minus the Navy and added a Giant Wheel overlooking the water and skyline, and put in some more entertainment. It could make money.

I would like it if Cleveland built a pier amusement park. I think that part of Burke Lakefront Airport could be used. The park would have to withstand the weather forces of the lake front, but it could be done.
You guys are already stating plans that Cleveland had thought of, yet I don't know if they are going through yet. John peck , I think you description is right on with the plans, especially the Ferris wheel which would be the center of this park. Mayor White is one of the big supporters of this plan, which has already been drawn up and renderings have been produced

One of our projects for architecture was to do this exact same thing. They would not let me put in a coaster though :(.
I found some sites about the propesed park

Here is some criticism about the plan.

Oh yeah, this plan seems like a mirror of the park in Chicago. *** This post was edited by Joe E. on 3/30/2001. ***
I knew I shouldn't have looked in this thread. It just brings hard feelings back up towards premier.
Buying old indiana and using it as a barial ground for several rides. I looked into it and finally called premier. The lady told me that they had no plans to build old indiana back into a park that they just bought the land to keep a few rides there until they refribished them and give them to the already spoiled six flag chain, more than likely six flags world of adventure or gueage lake. Damn corrupt business men buying a park out so other companys like cedar fair or other business men couldn't redo the park. It really irks me what six flags will do to keep out competition.
