Although you modified it somewhat, that's not what your original post said. That may have been the spirit in which you intended it, but it wasn't the way that most were intrepreting it. I'm not a moderator (thanks be to God) but I can see why that thread was closed. Sometimes threads with good intentions can be marred by "jackasses" replying to them.

However, I cannot help but feel that since I am a paying Coasterbuzz member, that I should be able to post a topic like 'What is your favorite...?' or 'Of the top 10 coasters, which one should not be...?' without it being deleted.
First of all, CBuzz membership only defrays the cost of running the site, grants you access to enthusiass-only events and a discount at HW. That's it. It doesn't make you anybody special on the boards.
Second, subjects like that almost always turn into whaaa-whaaa-whaa my homepark's coaster is the bestest in the world threads. Then another dozen new people show up next week and it starts all over again. Tedious? You bet.
Besides, there's plenty of interesting things to discuss without bringing up such subjects at all...

See... some people do get it. He's exactly right, I know what those kinds of topics degenerate into. Maybe some of you who have only been visiting coaster forums for a little while don't realize that, but after four or five years I can spot a degenerate topic like I can smell a fart in a car. The worst offenders we list in the TOS, but that is not an all-inclusive list and there will always be exceptions.
StandUpFan: Please let the poor defenseless victim thing go. It's sad. You can post all of the opinions you want, even if they're wrong (like 2Hostyl's notion that Raptor doesn't kick ass, but to each his own). No one is flaming anyone for their opinions. If I allow you to be flamed, you'll know it, and it will likely be because something insanely uninteresting was posted.
Now I ask you... and think hard about this... if someone starts a topic like, "What's your favorite steel coaster," and it gets a hundred replies, do you care? Are you honestly going to read every one, or respond to any number of them? Unless you're really bored and can't find anything more interesting to talk about, I'm guessing no. And even if you would, too bad, because I find it boring and will ditch it.
A lot of people like to cry foul or call me names or whatever, and that's their business. However, I will not stand for anyone making the claim that the moderators and I are unfair or delete stuff because we don't agree with it. Please, we've all got better things to do. We will try to keep the conversation interesting though, and that has zero to do with whether or not me, the Pope or your grandma agree with you.

Fellow posters (not mods or Jeff)....all we ask in regard to opinions is that you be able to back them up....opinions are great, but the facts *behind* your opinions are what make for interesting discussion....
Personally, I find the MOST opinionated folks are the ones who are the most fun, because they're the ones who have taken the time and effort to FORM them, and have enough knowledge and experience to back them up....
you don't need experience (a lot of coasters) to be able to "spout" opinions....and the *flamers* by and large are a small minority....but being able to "defend" your positions is useful for a lot more than talking about coasters....
Bump. I saw that this topic slipped to the second page... then I saw this topic! This is a site to *discuss* rollercoasters and theme parks. Topics in which the replies are simply names of coasters are not a discussion!

Instead of using Jackass of the “ ” we could use something a little less offensive. Instead we could use the term “troll.” It has been used before and it’s a lot less offensive than “Jackass.” I would be fine with using jackass but others may get a little offended.

“If you give a enthusiast a footer.......He’ll want a coaster!!!"
And some people are offended by porn sites as well, but fortunately for the porn sites those people have enough common sense to not visit what they don't like (unlike a portion of the enthusiast community).
