email notifocations for pm's

I would like to know if it's possible for automated emails for pm's. Is there a way to set it up so that it emails you when someone had replied kind of like it is set up with topic subscriptions? If it already is possible, and I am missing something, please tell me how I can do this. Thanks!

Nobody replies, seriously at least, to your posts anyway.

^Oh wow. That singed my eyebrows.

You replied, Josh. lol

I reply to Tyler's PMs all the time. I also think that this is a pretty good idea. On the other hand, CoasterBuzz PMs are not like Facebook IMs.

I'd settle for the PM notifier in the top right being a different color (like bright red) when I have a new message. It's extremely rare when I get one, so I hardly ever even think to check it. I've gone weeks before without knowing I had a PM in my inbox.

I don't want an email telling me I have a PM, though. The less email I get, the better. And frankly, I'm not sure why Tyler needs email notification anyway when he's practically permanently logged into CoasterBuzz.

Like Vader, I rarely get PM's, but I always take a glance up there. But receiving a message (e-mail) to let you know you have a message (PM?) Nah, to me that's redundant and unnecessary.

While we are on the subject of notifications, wouldn't it be awesome to be somehow notified that your post received a vote up?

^You can already see your voteups. In Profile, click Activity.

Yea. I know that. I was thinking more like having a little number show up in the red bar at the top of the page telling how many vote ups you have had since the last time you looked. Clicking it could take you to the Activity page, perhaps.

I'm really just blabbing. CoasterBuzz is really great already the way it is.

When I read this thread I thought it said, "email notifications for pms." Which, come to think of it, wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I can't vote that post up enough.

It would be difficult to receive those pms warnings because your laptop would be sailing across the room.

That's exactly why I would like this feature. You see, my phone vibrates almost like I got a text message (if you don't know what a text message is, click here) whenever I get an email. It would be way more convenient if I could just see whenever a PM comes without having to check coaster-buzz for it. Unlike some of you folks, I have used PM to get into long and intelligent off topic conversations with people on this site.

I wouldn't have to be on the site so much if I had this feature because I wouldn't be just page refreshing for 3 minutes waiting for a PM. You see, because of my problem, (and other reasons) I have to have coaster-buzz's recent topics page as my home site on my phone's web browser. I check it about 4-5 times an hour. Not all of that is for PM's, but adding this feature could cut this down to 3 times an hour. Then, in my email inbox, I just click on the link to my PM box, read the message, respond, and go back to my life in the real world.

This all works very effectively on coasterfuel.com when I use it to collaborate with others when I make NoLimits coasters. My phone vibrates when I get my latest message, and I don't have to waste my time just sitting in their rarely used forum section, refreshing the screen, and waiting for a PM. Obviously I need it more on that site than here, though.

What is more redundant (but maybe not unnecessary) is the subscribe feature. I have many topics subscribed to, and one of them is the Kings Island New Coaster 2014 topic. There has been 750+ replies to that topic, and every hour or so it sends me an email saying that there are new replies. My email box has gotten very cluttered because of that.

I don't get a lot of PM's, (one or two per day) but having email notifications involved with them would be awesome. No website is perfect, but coaster-buzz will get closer to that if it adds this feature.

I just sent Jeff a check so he could start writing code.

Oh my god! Joke overload! My brain is going into fits. So many posibilities!

Seriously, the one single thing that makes this site so awesome is the intelligent off-topic conversations.

The amount of irony contained in the contrast of your public posts compared to the idea of you having intelligent off-topic conversations via PM is so deliciously sweet that I think I'm now a diabetic.

Not sure I want to be in the "vacinity" of such "notifocations."

Or anywhere near a spell-checker...

The little icon glows briefly if you have a message. There's your notification. :)

What icon? Do you mean the coaster-buzz icon, the private message icon, or the website as a whole?

Lord Gonchar's avatar

The entire website. It glows a soft, pulsating blue the first time you return after getting a new PM.

The blue screen of Jeff?
