Earthquake in Northeast

B&R-The Chiller

There was an Earthquake as far from Maine to Delaware. It was a 5.1 on the r.s, My question is are the coasters earthquake proof, because they dont happen very often around here.

I don’t know about earthquake protection in the northeast but I can add that the epicenter was just outside Plattsburg, NY. The parks that would be most closely affected would be La Ronde (1-hour drive away) and The Great escape (about 2 hours away). Personally, it was bad enough to wake me here in Montreal, but I've felt worse ones over the years.

I woke up because of it and Plattsburg is 120 miles away! My bed was shaking, but nothing fell. It was a weird experience for me, kinda like sleeping in a car.

It woke me up and I live 20 miles northwest of Boston. The house shook steadily for about ten seconds.

Hello, you're forgeting about Funtown Splashtown USA(Excalibur and Galaxi), Sebago Lake(Sebago Rapids), Old Orchard Beach(Dragon Coaster and the Serphent), Cascade Water Park(Demon Water Coaster), Cannobie Lake Park(Yankee Cannonball, Cannobie Corkscrew, Galaxi, and Dragon Coaster), Whalom Park(Flyer Comet), Kartland(Kiddie Coaster), and Six Flags New England(S:ROS, Thunderbolt, Cyclone, Poison Ivy, Great Chase, Mind Eraser, Flashback, and B:DK). All of those parks are much closer to the epicenter than La Ronde and Great Escape.

The only major coasters that it could pose any major threat to are the Flyer Comet that is in bad condition and the unstable Lincoln Park Comet if those P and S waves even took them in. All the coaster built here with in the last 70 years are earthquake proof. You guys are forgeting that Massachusetts gets more earthquakes than any other state besides Alaska. Even if most aren't feelable, we still are ready for the big ones. Buzz Head, I agree with you. They ain't seen nothin' until they comeback to my trip across the Dumbarten Bridge during the Great San Fransisco earthquake of 89'.

I think i felt it, becuase i woke around that time ,a nd i had a dream i was being screamed at or somthing and then i woke up shaking in my bed, also i looked at my bed before and it was moved off the wall a bit, which never happens. My dad also said he felt it at work. (thankfuly that shaking woke me up intime not to be late for class)

See, if a relatively small earthquake hit NYC, ppl wont notice (especially in Manhattan). The place is always shaking from the subway anywayz

Actually, SFNE, Canobie, and Whalom are not closer than those two, I don't think. Because Plattsburg is pretty far north, and SFNE is pretty darn far away from there. I doubt SFNE was affeceted, CoasterGuy told me he barely felt it, if even at all (I think)

I live in southern New Hampshire but I didn't feel anything. My friends said they felt it but I didn't...I was driving at the time it happened so maybe that's why I didn't feel anything.

I know this sounds crazy, but I woke up around 6:50 due to shaking in my room. It was strange, it woke me up and everything was blurry and I got up thinking that I had school. Then it stopped and I fell asleep.. Whoa. Lol.

LOL, this is hilarious to us Californians. Just as Buzz Head said, call us when you get a 7. Even a 6 would be noteworthy, but not a 5. Then again, we make a big deal about tiny tornadoes and storms......

Yeah, this is pretty funny. But Coastration, I see you're from around the Bay Area like me. What if we got one of their blizzards, we're not prepared for that, just like they're not prepared for earthquakes.
