Drachen Fire rumors...

Accually, nasai, bald eagles (which is said to be the kind on Drachen Fire) are no longer endangered. It is still illegal to hunt, kill, disturb, or whatnot to them though.

I hope that this person is not creditable, and is wrong. I would hate to see this coaster never open. I plan on begging my parents to bring me to BGW for a graduation present, but I won't bother if DF isn't going to be open in '03.

Sure, they have one of the most photographed coasters, an Arrow suspended, a B&M hyper and inverted, but my home park has half of them, Raging Bull, and B:TR. Sure, B:TR probably can't be compared to Alpengeist. But the fact is, I don't want to waste my graduation present on a park which lets one of thier coasters sit SBNO for years when I could goto the Carribbean instead.

Hey, SFGAm management, can I buy a couple cages of Sky Whirl?

It may not cost them in terms of running the ride, but there are dollars lost by letting it go SBNO - the money the ride could bring in if it was running, especially if reworked to increase it's appeal like PR (or even cheaper, FoF).

Having gone to the park about 20-30 times this summer I have seen the nest in question many times and on two occasions actually got to see the bird which inhabits it. It is an eagle, but not a bald eagle. It was either a golden eagle or an osprey, as it was a brown in color and did not have the white (bald) head. Based on the size of the bird though, I can be quite sure that it was of the eagle variety. I cannot with any certainty predict the fate of this coaster, but I severely doubt anybody else's ability to do so as well unless they are a major player in BGW operations. I had two close friends who worked in the front office of BGW and they had conflicting views on the fate of the coaster so I am sure that the true answer is that of the last official statement. That statement simply said that BGW would continue to explore its options on the coaster, either to dismantle it or reopen it. This statement was made in February shortly after the coaster was removed from the market.

TrBiggar...yeah, I thought about it as I wrote it.  Bald eagles are not endangered, but are very small in numbers.  Regardless, they wouldn't just tear the nest down.  Granted, I don't think they are doing anything with the ride, even though I personally want them to.  By the way, female bald eagles don't have white heads, so it is entirely possible that they are still bald eagles.  Thought I'd sneak that in:)  I don't believe BGW even has an idea yet of what to really do with the coaster.  I hope they move it soon, if they are going to.  It takes up an awful lot of greatly usable space to leave it SBNO.  Too sad:(

Tolian, if you take the train ride (tour), you will ride right past it.  Try not to punch the tour guide when they "try" to pretend it's not even there.   :o)

I rode "X" and never went upside down.
I never had the chance to ride DF before it closed.  Since it has closed, I have been to BGW many times and have seen it just sitting there.   Today, I found an on-ride video of DF.   I always wondered what this ride looked like in action.....from the video it looks GREAT!.   It makes me want to ride it even more.   It was good to finally see this coaster in motion instead of just sitting still.  Never having seen DF run before until this video, I now feel more sad because it looked like such an intense ride.....now it just sleeps.

This coaster will either open back up or be sold. It isn't like Windjammer or anything, it can be operated. I think if Morgan, or even arrow can do something to the coaster then it will be okay

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
I game thought to starting a comotion when DF came into vewi and start snapping pictures and going "oh my god! that's drachen fire! hey miss (or mister depding who the guide is) where can I get off, I wanna ride that!

I too have seen he video you speak of, if it's the one you got from americas coaster network site that is of it's orginial confirguration.  they modified it in 95 and took out the corscrew after the midcourse brakes. there;s just a ramp leading down form there.  Although that first drop into that  inversion looks very cool. it would be great to see them put some new trains on there since I am one of the many people here who detest arrow looper trains. and reopen it of course.
