Drachen Fire Cutback

I once thought that OTSRs were standard equipment for looping coasters as well. As a matter of fact, I remember asking if Son of Beast had OTSRs or lapbars!

Obviously, I no longer think that way, though I have yet to ride a looping coaster. Although that might not be true either, the way some of you are talking about Millennium Force! I remember saying something like this about Millennium Force's overbanked turns, referring to their banking: "Not too much farther, and MF would have four inversions." (I was mistaken about the number of overbanked turns MF has.)

"What am I doing?"
"OoooohwhAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

The turn on Mr. Freeze opposite the tophat is pretty highly banked as well. Does anybody know what degree that is. I have always thought that it came pretty close to a cutback.
It comes close, but not close enough. Anyway, where would somebody find the degree of the banked turn on Mr. Freeze, or the second hill on Superman Ride of Steel, or say the hight of the inversions, the amount of air time on a given part of the ride? Ive seen alot of websites that have info on the first drop angle and hight and things like the lenght and speed of it, but are there any websites that go into great depth, giving you all the info possible?

Formally known as Millenium Force29, Alpengiest is the best!

Mr. Freeze's so-called "overbanked turn" is set at pi*2/3 radians.

I don't mean to spoil anything jeremy may have been trying to do by posting that in radians, but...

That's 120 degrees, just in case any of you haven't had radians in math yet. Just multiply the number of radians [2pi/3 in this case] by 180/pi.

Is a cutback considered an inversion. Because you look totally upside down on Drachen Fires cutback!

I'm pretty sure that BGW and Arrow considered the cutback an inversion, and SF and Premier consider the overbank on Mr. Freeze an inversion also.

A rollercoaster? What's that?

Cutbacks Are Just A Corkscrew But You Come Out The Way You Went In You Can Make Them On RCT, Just Do Two Of The Same Corkscrews (Both Lefts, Or Rights)

-----------------

doesnt space moutntain have a cutback???

my RCT recreation does and ive seen sites refer to the cutback as one of its inversions

I don't think any Space Mountains do, but which are you reffering to? I presume Paris.

yup its the paris one, i thought there was only one out there

(Refering to Space Mountain, Disneyland park, Disney Resort Paris or DLP, lol)

Humm! AHH! The true "Horseshoe" or the true name, the "Tongue" loop. Well, this one is a mixed bag. Its looks like the Arrow Cutback, but with one subtle difference: its doesn't take you completely 180 degrees upside down.

But, based on my observations and picture (sorry, the french website that had the only complete pictures of inside the ride closed down last year), Its an inversion. But, many says its doesn't take you upside down, but, that's due to the almost pitch dark condition inside the ride building. Last year, they added a spotlight that lights the middle of the Tongue and you really notice you're upside down/on the side. Also, due to the speed you take the inversion, you feel like getting thrown out the car!

So, I believe the Vekoma "Tongue" loop present on Space Mountain is the closed thing to the Arrow Cutback.

Well, Cedar Point obviously wanted to break as many records as possible with Millennium Force. That's why it's overbanked turns are banked at 122 degrees, to break the 120 degree record set by Mr. Freeze. So, why don't they consider the overbanked turns on Millenium Force inversions, when they're banked 2 degrees more steeply than the overbanked turns on Mr. Freeze, which are considered inversions? Probably to lower the fear factor. Which sounds more scary?: 300FT coaster with no inversions, or 300FT coaster with multiple inversions

If you build it, they will come!

I never got to ride Drachen Fire, but I have ridden Millennium Force. In my opinion, MF's overbanked turns are not inversions, and they dont feel like inversions either. However, I do think that inclined loops, like on Mantis, are inversions.

Intelligence is a God given gift: Know how to use it.

You know, with rides like the B&M and Vekoma flyers and X, the question of inversions is about to become moot anyway. Who can say what an inversion is when you are on your stomach?

He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking; can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.

I always thought that it was weird when they said that flyer x had so many inversions when really during an inline twist or a corkscrew you are not upside down. The only inversions on flyers (IMO) are the pretzel loop on S:UF and the vertical loops on the Vekoma flyers...
X-Flight's press says it has 8 inversions. I have no idea how they get that, because even counting all the half-flips, I can only come up with 7 inversions. Besides, if they're counting half-flips as inversions, why not count each barrel roll as 2 inversions?

Den,

Here is how they count it (no, I do not agree with it)

1 loop, 1 horseshoe, 2 barrel rolls, 4 half twists (before first drop, before loop, after loop, and the end of the ride).

Oh. I did not think of the horseshoe as a loop. So they are pushing the definition of "inversion" in every way possible.
