Dorney Park Floorless Coaster

I doubt the new floorless will go anywhere near the water. As a matter of fact, I can guarantee it. In the press release back in September it said that the new coaster would be moved back 200-250 feet on the lake side and side facing Haines Mills (sp?) road compared to Hercules. That means the new floorless will not extend as far as Hercules did. Also, we can be pretty confident that the whole concept of 5 below ground level sections does not mean going down the side of the hill. If you look at the pics on DPO (specifically this one http://www.dorneyonline.com/index.php?page=photo&c=update&id=142 ), you can see that DP has created a big platform of dirt. So, the idea of a terrain floorless could be ruled out. However, I'm sure it will still be a great ride.

And photos like that are the ONLY time I miss Allentown.

It would've been fun to keep tabs on this one.

If this does have 5 tunnels/trenches then they're really pulling out all the stops on this one.

So is this going to utilize the natural terrain??.... a floorless terrain coaster....?

Also, are they going to have to fill the track with sand like they did with talon...i know floorlesses are realllly loud....

And do you think this coaster will ahve as big of an impact as storm runner did with hershey? b/c if it does, im going to be really excited for dorney...

swim92688, as I just stated, I do not believe it will use the terrain because of the large level platform being created. I'm not saying that the terrain won't be used, but it is my confident personal opinion that it won't. And, to answer your other question, yes, this ride will be filled with sand like Talon in respect the park's neighbors. The new floorless probably won't have an impact in the sense that SR will, but it will be a huge hit at DP and I expect the attendance to go up almost as much as Talon brought it up. (If my numbers are correct, Talon brought in 200,000-255,000 over the previous year). Hopefully the new floorless will bring in that much also.

Another possibility: interaction with Steel Force's helix, meaning head-chopping possibilities for both coasters.
I would LOVE to see that one happen!

[Nitro Dave -- Track Record: 231 coasters] A Rapturous Verbatim & A Tournament of Lies -- my blogs...they're blogtastic.
Interaction with Steel Force would be sweet. Not to mention playing with Thundercreek Mountain as well.

Dorney is still missing a lauched coaster from their lineup so just imangine a launched floorless. I know it won't happen but it would be awsome.

I'm just hoping it will be somthing with more than 4 inversions. I'm sure it will be great no matter what they build.

I posted a while back about this but I guess some people forgot.

-It will be shorter in height than Talon
-Have more inversions than Talon
-Will NOT have tunnels, but will have trenches like Talon
-Will have an unusual order of elements (no one can say this will be cookie cutter)
-Will NOT go off the side of the hill down to the water like Hercules did...it pretty much stays atop the hill.
-No interaction with Steel Force's helix.

That should whet your appetite for now. ;)

OMG I have a new sig!!!
I really hope it is good, Talon really rocks! I just hope it isn't anything like Batman: The Dark Knight. Please have eight cars per train and be more like Medusa or Kraken, but with a different style. I hope it has a new element or two, that would be sweet.
Don't expect any new elements, but as legendary said, DO expect a unique order.

Legendary said:-It will be shorter in height than Talon

That sounds a little odd, perhaps a higher drop?

I would even almost venture to say bizarre inversion order, if I knew anything.

Brian, looking forward to his first trip to Dorney this year.

Is all of Hercules cleaned up yet? If so did they remove all the footers as well? Not much has been said about the site since the structure was raised. At least I don't remember reading anything.
All structure and track has been taken down. And, to my knowledge, every footer has been taken out. I believe the last thing they removed was the turn over the lake and its footers (they had to drain the water to take out the footers for that). Right now it probably looks like a big mess (especially after it rains) with all of the dirt just sitting there.
I can't wait for it to open!
Actually, Hercules' lake footers are still in place. There's also still some left leading to the lake, as can be seen in this picture taken today. There is also a rather large trench which looks to be where the old lift hill was here.

In another thread, we have found out that the name of the ride is Hydra-The Revenge. Is there any chance for underwater tunnels, like with the old Arrow looper at PKD?

I guess that Kraken at SW has close to the same theme. It doesn't have any underwater tunnels, but it does have trenches. Could HTR somehow resemble Kraken?

Food for thought.

The ride won't really be going towards the water that far. In fact, most of the ride is going to be up towards the midway, rather than down the terrain herc-style.

The new name of the coaster is indeed "Hydra - The Revenge". I was quite surprised to see Dorney had a sign up for it yesterday. Here's a link to a picture of it for all those interested.

Enjoy!

Hydra, I have always felt, would be a great name for a coaster.. The 8 headed dragon..

But.. the revenge?
