Dorney Park - Tearing down a ride???

In a recent local newspaper article, Dick Kinzel was "hinting" what is planned for Dorney.

He said they would definitely like to update the waterpark (as is the rumor for most CF water parks) and he also said that because of the limited space, they might have to tear down a ride.

I see two possibilities. The first being Laser. It is a portable ride and if they removed it, they would have a piece of land as big as or bigger(in length) than Talon.

The other possibility is Hercules. A few people said they heard it was going to be torn down. If it is, I hope they bring in Intamin to completely redo the ride. Any thoughts?

Hercules won't be torn down. Mark my words.

Limited space? When I went to Dorney a couple of weeks ago me and my party commented on how much room they had to expand in places

I believe the linited space is within the waterpark area not in the rest of the park.

The countdown to gaydays 2003 at Disney and Universal has begun.

They have a huge amount of room in between Steel Force and Laser. I have an overhead satellite photograph of DP, and there is enough land there to build something larger than Talon. I wish they would build something in that plot of land.

It'd be a shame to see Laser go. But I'm pretty sure Hercules will not be torn down, it doesn't make sense.

I am wishing for a Thrust Air by Steel Force.

Right now, there are lights in the area between Steel Force and Laser. Some people say it's going to be a parking lot, but I hope it's not true.

They better not toch Thunderhauk, I Love that ride!, I could see Lazer or Thunderhauk going, but more lazy becuase it is just old,and just on of those type of coaster that will disapear in the next few years, and maybe Thunderhauk becuase it maybe isent so popular, but I Thunderhauk, I even want to get its logo tattooed on me.
Did anyone get that?

Thunderhawk better not go anywhere. The airtime on that ride in incredible!

Hercules is still a fun ride, I don't care how much people badmouth it.

If anything is gonna be removed, take out all of the go-kart tracks. Build something that can interact with Steel Force's turnaround more. I still say that Dominator should have gone right in the middle.

And bring back ParaTrooper!

I believe Dorney has a lot of room available by Thunder Canyon as well.

I thought Dorney had a good bit of room, too. I don't see them tearing down Hercules, though, I mean, it doesn't take up a whole lot of room, It just uses the hillside. Thunderhawk won't go, I don't see them getting rid of a 20's coaster. I would have to agree that if anything would go, it would be Laser, but with the good thinking that CF does in keeping rides, I wouldn't think they would have to get rid of anything.

How would tearing down Thunderhawk, Laser, or Hercules free up space in the waterpark?

Secondly, why would the park remove it's signature attractions?

I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.

That comment about space has to be referring to the waterpark - there are already a few large plots of grass just waiting for new attractions (to the left as you walk from the Laser area to Steel Force, beside the wild mouse).

These areas seem like obvious spots for small to mid size additions.

The LARGE grass area between Steel Force and Laser IS a parking lot, there are no rides going there! On saturdays they have the main lot filled, the overflow lot filled, the grass lot between SF and Laser, and they even save room in the employee lot for guests which DOES get full, they even have people parking out beside the road. They wont put ANYTHING in that grass area becuase the NEED it for parking.

Tearing down the laser wouldnt do jack poop for space. it sits in the middle of the pathway barely taking up room. no way theyd take laser down, they are one of the few parks left with a Schwartzkopf and they know that. i highly doubt any coaster would be taken down. hercules? dream on itll take an earthquake to have them part with that ride. that ride has to much meaning to the park, i could see them hiring people like intamin like u said to reprofile/redesign it and like someone said, all it takes up is the land on the side of that hill. didnt someone say before that dorney already mentioned reprofiling herc?

Ok, I tend to avoid the park on days that are that crowded, but are you trying to say they park cars on that nicely kept piece of land right across the path from Thunderhawk that sits between Steel Force and Cedar Creek?

I understand there's more land there behind the nicely manicured part, but I'm just talking about the bit that's right up to the path, the part that's kept all nice. It's small to midsized and would be a great place for another ride to draw a little more traffic back that way like Meteor did for the Hercules corner of the park.

Perhaps the area between Steel Force and Laser isn't going to be a ride, but a "gateway" to other rides. If there is more land behind that (they have 30 acres left) maybe they will be building a new midway to lead back farther to other rides. The lights in place look like ther lights on other midways.

I hope if they tear down a ride it isn't Laser or Hercules- They are two of my favorite coasters! If they had to tear one down, I would hope it would be ThunderHawk. That is about my least favorite. It is too rough and short for me.

IF this is true (I will have to see it or hear it officially before I believe it), I seriously doubt if it would be T-hawk or Hercules. Laser... while popular with people on these boards (though I STILL fail to see why) could be a likely candidate. But again, gotta hear this from an official source to be believed.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"
