Do you know what would be perfect for SFNE?

Monday, April 22, 2002 2:18 PM

I was at the park on April 21. I rode B: TDK 4 times and S: RoS 2 times. I went with three of my friends who have never been there before so I showed them the ropes. They were impressed with the park.

Anyway...we were down by the end of the park where Cyclone is and I told them what I thought would be perfect for the park. I told them that a "unique coaster has to be built there." I was pointing towards the picnic area behind the trampolines. That end of the park is so depressing. When I say that I mean that there is no action. Everything seems lifeless and slow. The other end of the park has a lot of action like S: RoS, Scream, B: TDK, etc. Having a top-notch coaster along with Cyclone on the other end of the park would add life to that side of the park. It seems that all of the people are down by Scream and S: RoS. I just thought that if the picnic area got moved somewhere else and a coaster took its place then the park would be near perfect because nothing is ever perfect.

Sometimes slow areas are nice. I'm thinking the Frontier Trail at CP, Rivertown at PKI, etc. Sometimes you can't even see any coasters from those areas. It's nice to get away from the noise for a little bit, I think.

I agree 100 percent. The first time I visited Sfne, I thought that I was going the wrong way to Cyclone. On an average day, there is about a ratio of 200 people on the superman side of the park to about 10 people on the cyclone side.

p.s. the one thing about cyclone that bothers me is the run two trains, but they only load people on to one of them. Why.

Den - I agree with you and will add two more of my favorite park areas: 1] Samurai Summit at SFMM, especially the Japanese Gardens that so few people know about; 2] the Cathedral area at Knotts.

That gardens on Samurai Summit are spectacular. I seriously think SFMM is one of the most beautiful parks in the world but it gets so little credit in that department. :(

I have a photo on my nightstand of my wife (then girlfriend) and I in those very gardens when we went in June 1998. I also have another picture of us in the very same spot when we went back in June 2001.

I agree, very pretty area. The foliage under Revolution also is nice.

Oh year sure! CP's Frontier Trail is slow. It only has a giga coaster and a B&M stand up coaster, MF being the most popular and Mantis being one of the most popular.

New England has a nice coaster line up but they might just add a launched coaster or a rumored 4D for the expansions coming up. Maybe then that section will get more crowds.

Mantis really isn't on Frontier Trail.

Well I don't see Six Flags New England getting anything big right around the corner. They got Superman:Ride of Steel and just added Batman:Dark Knight to balance out the line up. The private pinic area will not be going since that is the only secluded area of the park that they have for events and company pinics.

You can say that side of the park is dead at most times but not because of ack of attractions. I have never seen less than a 20 minute line for Blizzard River and Cyclone is one of the most popular attractions at night with the slowest moving line(and terrible capacity due to Six Flags always trying to grease the track to slow it down, if the ride get more than 2 mph over its average speed then they shut it down for greasing on the track.) In the future there is supposed to be some path linking to a new park area. Six Flags will have a lot of battling for the town to let them buid anymore big attractions(anything on S:ROS's scale of thrill like a 4D), don't expect a unique coaster that will give a new type of thrill. The town is not letting anything that will attract more people onto its little roads to the park. The town was fine with Riverside, but wasn't built for a high scale theme park. Traffic and parking has become an extreme issue and if you watched the battle to build a compact coaster like B:DK with the town, you could see why. There are certain standards that the park must fufilll before the zoning department will let the park build any more large attractions(there is a certain size restriction), these include things like back up lot, trams, ferries to park is also supposed to come soon, etc.(park across the river and take the boat to the ferry to the park).

The park needs more focus on well rounding the park. The park has been commented on many notes that it is not wel divided and made for familys. You shoud expect a few new family oriented rides i a package soon as I was told at Media Day in conversation.

Vertigo you're exactly right. Before the next huge attraction the park is required to widen that bridge by 91, widen the main roads on the park, and fix the rotary in Agawam. This is all supposed to happen next year I think. So I don't think anything huge will be making its way to SFNE next year. But the park does seems to be getting ready for another expansion by the fact that they bought a huge piece of land down the street. At the very most they'll add a small coater in the north end. But I'd give that a 5% chance. I think they'll be working on traffic problems and other stuff they need befor their next expansion next year. Of course I could very well be wrong and I would like to be surprised but I'm not counting on it.

Vertigo: If the ferry thing happens and the traffic problem is resolved, would the town let us build more stuff and expand? You mentioned something about a new area linking paths together.

The state of Massachusetts are the people that need to fix the bridge. It isn't up to the park. The state stated awhile ago they would built a connector up near Springfield to the park, however no action yet. Once the traffic problem is figured out, SFNE has free reign to expand as much as they want :-D

Since this is my homepark, I have become fond of reading all report from the town's zoning department and board meetings that include issues on SFNE. A new area in planning did pop up back in January, but it was only a few words that one of Six Flags' represenatives said about future plannings for the park. Then one of the town members tried to start using Six Flags' plans against them. In attempt to stop this off topic arguement the chairman ended the discussion. I wished that they would have continued so more about the future plans for the park would be leaked about further in the arguement, but it could have cost us B:DK if the battle continued. What I mentioned above are the only additions that I have been able to get out of the reports. Hopefully, more will come up in the future though. The ferry to transport people from across the river was an antidote Six Flags said they're planning in to try to cure the problems with the town. All I could get out about this new area that was in the park's plannings was that it would be an add on to the park and not secluded to the park's current property. I can't really answer your question of how much the town will let the park grow because I'm not on the Town Board, but if Six Flags can sees that the problems are solved or handled then I'm sure the town will step aside. The park can still add stuff right now, but only within a certain size limit that the Board must approve of before built.

Personally I think they should add an impulse.

An impulse would be nice.

If the town sees that B: TDK isn't bothering the neighboring houses and is doing good things for Agawam, could the town be more lenient? B: TDK is the quietest coaster I've seen. That says something about how SF is trying to stay on the towns good side.

I am just glad they have BDK, it's a great addition to the park-just what they need. For 2003, I would rather see park improvements than a coaster. I would like to see Cyclone and T-Bolt (yes, that too) repainted in the areas that they have been re-tracked. It looks absolutely terrible. Second, it would be nice if they could rip up that nasty pavement for a walkway and put in some nice bricks or some other good looking walkway versus black pavement (ugh). Last I heard, they arent going to expand until the state builds that conenctor in Springfield. Once that happens, they plan to expand a lot. As far as that new piece of land goes, I heard they are using that for parking, and looking into using space across the river for parking as well.

Spending time and money on making the park look nicer is always a good thing. I wouldn't mind that for 2003 to make it look real good. After that they can get the traffic problem fixed (even though I never see what anybody is talking about...there isn't any traffic) and then they can start their expansion with a 4D, B&M Flying, CCI Hyper, and a B&M Speed Hyper...I wish.

That pathway next to Buzzsaw and Top Spin looks like a tidal wave of concrete. I've sat there eating my roast beef sandwich and watched multiple people trip, stumble, or fall over that ridge in the path. The only areas that have exceptable walkways are the areas that Six Flags built(with exception of the front area of Mind Eraser), the old Riverside areas are in bad condition. Six Flags should stop piling over the outskirts of the park and fix up the center. Thunderbolt's condition right now is like Rolling Thunder to explain better.
