Disney sues DeSantis for using government to retaliate against the company

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

On Wednesday, a board appointed by Mr. DeSantis to oversee government services at Disney World voted to nullify two agreements that gave Disney vast control over expansion at the 25,000-acre resort complex. Within minutes, Disney sued Mr. DeSantis, the five-member board and other state officials in federal court, claiming “a targeted campaign of government retaliation.”

I can’t get over the assertion that just because someone practices law it automatically puts them on the right side of anything. I mean, maybe so, but then again not necessarily.

I mean, Michael Cohen was a lawyer, and he went to jail for his lawyering.

If there was a need for a Bill from NJ on CoasterBuzz, there would already be one.

And there is! Yet...now there are two? Zounds!

They aren't the same guy?

You don't agree with him...

You say this as if whether or not the January 6th insurrection was violent is a matter of opinion. There is a substantial amount of verifiable, undisputed evidence that it was a violent insurrection and not, as they imply in this video, a group of peaceful tourists.

Worse still, the video they cite as evidence is a 101 second clip selectively edited by FOX News from the 41,000 hours of footage from that attack. In other words, this very smart lawyer thinks 0.00007% of footage showing some calmer moments from the attack negates the other 99.99993% of the footage, in addition to all the other documented evidence of the attack.

So he is either incredibly stupid, or knowingly lying. In either case he lacks credibility.

Sedition is a pretty rare charge. Aaron Burr was charged and acquitted. Jefferson Davis was charged but the case was dropped. Tokyo Rose was convicted in the late 40s. The last successful charge was in the 90s when Islamic militants were found guilty of it.

Last night four men were convicted of sedition and face decades in jail. But hey, it wasn't an insurrection. It was just a very "hands-on", VIP, behind-the-scenes tour of the Capitol that occurred on January 6th.

So ignoring sources who don't align perfectly with our own views demonstrates critical thinking skills?

You don't agree with him, ergo you discount his opinion.

It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with someone. That's what you don't get. The small handful of people I listen to on a regular basis--from both sides of the political spectrum--I often find myself disagreeing with, but I listen to them because I trust them. I trust that they're being intellectually honest and sincere, and that they're arguing in good faith. Whereas people like This Guy tip their hand by peddling all kinds of nonsense, where it's clear that what they are really up to is pandering to a select group of people based on a pre-determined set of views.

If I knew nothing about this whole DeSantis vs. Disney stuff (which would be an accurate description of where I'm at), I could still guess what This Guy's opinion is going to be just by looking at what he says about other topics. DeSantis is a Republican, and apparently one of the more obnoxious ones, who seems to be diving head first into the conservative vs. progressive culture war. This Guy's views all seem to align with the kind of hard-right positions you'd find on Fox Noise. So of course he's going to side with DeSantis and say that Disney is in trouble. I could've told you that ahead of time, without knowing any of the details of the case. Why should we listen to someone like that? If knowing someone's views on Third Rail Topic A allows me to guess with a high degree of accuracy what their views would be on Third Rail Topics B, C, D...X, Y, Z, I'm going to move on from them very quickly.

Maybe more charitably: "Generating videos that will get a lot of attention and therefore revenue."
