Disney previews Disney Wish cruise ship with Aqua Mouse, their first "attraction at sea"

Disney Cruise Line offered a preview of its next ship, the Disney Wish, in a half-hour preview video today. The ship is still under construction, but booking begins in May, with the first sailing in June 2022. The ship will include the operators first "attraction at sea," a heavily themed water coaster based on the modern Mickey Mouse shorts called Aqua Mouse. Video begins at the relevant part:

I'm excited for the new ship. It will take over the 3 and 4-night itineraries to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral (the Dream will home port in Miami and serve the Caribbean). Aqua Mouse looks like an improvement of the Aqua Duck, with some turns and a more interesting ending, and I guess whatever the show elements are in the forward funnel. It's not going to be a legendary thrill, but appropriate for the families. I'm sure I'll end up riding it over and over with my kid at the end of the last night, just like we did on the previous iteration.

Also, if you like to nerd out on engineering, somebody in Germany has been posting some really cool videos from the ship yard...

I mean, water coasters are cool and all, but once the kiddos fall asleep you can grab a short one (pun intended) with an Ewok.

Yes! That bar is an obvious variation on Skyline, which is on the Dream and Fantasy. Those have a "window" that overlooks a number of cities at night. What's cool is that there's motion, and a bunch of subtle things going on that you may never notice, like Mickey waving from a window, and other things. I imagine since this window shows non-real places, they could do anything.

I don't think we're that far away from screens being indistinguishable from the outside world, at least from a reasonable distance.

I've heard really good things about the Virtual Windows offered by Emirates.

I develop Retro Games for macOS, iPhone, and iPad when not riding coasters.

Disney may have invented that, too. I believe they were the first to do it on cruise ships, in interior rooms on the Dream back in 2011.

Just don’t try to jump out of one in an emergency.

I am going to put some in my house that when you look at them will make you feel like you are on a cruise ship.

An interior cabin, no less.

This sounds an awful lot like The Scenery Channel as seen in Back To The Future Part II.

Meanwhile at Spirit, you can hold up your can of Coors and look at the mountains!

As much as I want to do a Disney cruise because of my love of the Mouse and my love of Star Wars.

I just can't do it without a casino onboard so I can do poker tournaments on sea days to pay for the entire trip.

I'm 8 for 9 sailing NCL. :)

Having only done Disney, I can't imagine a casino onboard. That's said, I wouldn't mind trying one of those shiny new Celebrity ships, sans child. Maybe Captain Kate's boat.

My friends and I were looking at a Mediterranean cruise and the one we really wanted happened to be on the Edge so I think we are going to book it because we would all like to meet Captain Kate.

I can't say enough good things about Celebrity cruises so I would definitely recommend them, Jeff. My first sailing with them was 2 weeks aboard the Eclipse and it was nothing but luxury and being pampered. My class of cabin even came with a pillow menu that allowed me to decide what type of pillow I wanted each night. The level they go to to make sure you are taken care of is unreal. I enjoy Royal for quick 5 and 7 day cruises but when I want to get away and truly relax, I will always go to Celebrity and their Solstice class of ships.

My last out of state trip before Covid was a Spirit Airlines flight to Cedar Point Halloweekends, and I stayed at the Econolodge across from Thirsty Pony. Their version of pillow service was exchanging one with a stain for one without a stain.

As a professional traveler, I carry my own pillow. Absolutely worth it.

Fantastic. Less than two weeks before we can book!

We booked the inaugural sailing for June of next year. People with 20+ cruises already filled concierge and all of deck 11, plus the starboard side of deck 10 (which faces the beach at Castaway Cay). People are obviously very anxious to get cruising again.
