Disney Hates Poor People

Mulfinator:

Let's stop pretending that everyone that voted for a Republican who questioned the 2020 election was voting for authoritarianism.

But... they were.

So if you vote for a candidate you agree with all of their positions? I don't think it's quite that simple. If it were, I wouldn't vote for anyone.

With the things that really matter, yes. I think there's a moral line in the sand, and fascism and authoritarianism, with designs to eliminate democracy, are pretty much at the top of the list. Racism and misogyny are a close second, if not a tie. Those should automatically be disqualifying, regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum.

But isn't that assuming that everyone is getting the same information? There are plenty of old scared white people who listen to everything Tucker Carlson says. If the message they are hearing from every source is that the election was fraudulent, is it a surprise that they wouldn't be concerned when a politician is echoing those same concerns?

To be clear I am voting solidly Democratic until the Republican party can demonstrate that there are reasonable people running the show. I'm not holding my breath. But I also don't think dismissing people that did vote for a Republican as fascist sympathizers or lunatics is helpful either.

Democrats don't have clean hands either. If the Dems were truly concerned about the state of our republic why would they donate money to election deniers? To make an easier path in November? That sounds more like a quest for power than a mission to preserve democracy.

You're not wrong. I suppose my point is that it's hard to reconcile the idea that someone would be more worried about the brown people they're scared of than the actual threat to democracy. I can't do that math.

Republican voters are scared of the threat to democracy. They just think that threat is coming from the other side.

Anyone who thinks the threat of democracy hasn’t come from both sides is delusional.

I gotta call BS on that. Where are all of the Democrats claiming elections are rigged and encouraged an insurrection?

Let me quote Al Gore after the 2000 election:

”partisan rancor must now be put aside.”

“I accept the finality of the outcome, which will be ratified next Monday in the Electoral College” he said. “And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession.”

Point being, any of us who are old enough to remember knows that if there has ever been an election in our lifetimes that could be rationally argued, it was that one. And yet, this was the result.

I don't think anyone posting here is naïve enough to believe there isn't shady crap in every election happening every time on both sides of the aisle that ultimately boils down to self-serving behavior, but what happened on 1/6 is kinda-sorta in its own box of crazy.

I would quote Tipper Gore, but I still haven't forgiven her for what she tried to do to Twisted Sister.

Al also presided over the electoral vote tally in a joint session of Congress and ruled an objection to the Florida electoral votes was not in order (certifying the votes for Bush as President):

Tried and failed miserably...at the hearings at least.

Didn't think this was worth a new thread, but Disney raised ticket prices today.

We are taking our annual spring break week to Orlando. Normally that is at WDW. We are a little Disney'd out, so we are setting up shop at one of the Marriotts and doing Universal instead. I had already made up my mind to get the top-tier AP, thanks to the anticipation of late hours and the after-4P Universal Express. For non-FL residents, that comes to about $804 after tax. Not the cheapest way to visit Universal, but cheaper than buying a 5-day ticket and adding Express daily, plus it gives us a bit of extra time to spread our visit out over the week, includes parking, some modest discounts, etc. etc.

For grins, this morning I priced the ticket for the same week at WDW. A 7-day park hopper (what I normally buy for this trip) is ... $804. That's before buying the virtual queue product.

We have stayed at that Marriott a couple of times and think it is a wonderful place.

The perks on the top level pass are totally worth it (especially valet), but if I were going to pick (and I am), turning on Express an hour or two sooner would be great.

I think our plan most days will be: don't set an alarm, have a late breakfast, and make our way to the parks in the early afternoonish. Focus on shows/shopping/wandering/high capacity stuff during the afternoon and save most of the attractions for the evening. We are stuck with Orange County's spring break week, so the parks will be busy, but they will also be open late. (They closed at 10PM most nights this week in '22) which makes the 4PM Express start a lot more useful.

Outside of your "point" about an insurrection, I can think of 3 right off the top of my head. Stacy Abrams is really Governor of Georgia, Hillary Clinton really won the 2016 Presidential election and also see Hillary Clinton claiming that George W. Bush was not elected, but installed.

That woman made a LOT of music stars rich very fast. That little black and white sticker on the cassette case or LP cover made a LOT of kids buy records they would have never thought of before that.
