Disney Genie service deeply unpopular among fans before it has launched

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

From the article:

Disney guests clearly aren’t happy about the change — Disney’s announcement video for the Genie service has a telling 12,000 dislikes compared to 956 likes. The outrage mainly comes from the fact that the FastPass and FastPass Plus, Disney’s line-skipping services that will be imminently phased out, were free to use. Although you didn’t have much control over the specifics of your ride schedule, it still helped you avoid standing in a queue for hours, free of charge.

This has to end! The horror of Park Pass Reservations needs to end, as does the pandemic. I want this Park Pass System gone, it’s evil

Don't worry. They're talking about starting a petition. That always works.

Can a GoFundMe page be far behind?

Where's the Pepsi Refresh people when you need 'em?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

The Disney magic really is gone though. Now it's worrying all day if you are going to get what you paid for. It's now being nickel and dimed (more like twenty-dollar-billed) all day. Now it's stress and fighting everyone else for a turn to ride something.

I am now in the financial position to visit Disney if I wanted to, but G+ makes me have second thoughts. It just doesn't sound like fun anymore.

I think it largely depends on how you go into it. There's a lot of middle ground between showing up without a plan and planning it down to the minute and there's a lot of fun to be had in that middle ground. Hell, some people are going to have fun on both ends of that spectrum. If you can't decide on your preferred level of planning and set reasonable expectations for what happens when you get there, you're probably one of those people that enjoys being unhappy.

None of this is new. It's just more transparent.

Have you gone recently and experienced this, or this this all anecdotal?Because it’s still fun, even without using G+

I don't know how you can say the magic is gone if you haven't been there.

You can hate a ride without riding it so why not?

You guys are not wrong.

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

Travis you need to go to Disney and see for yourself. I recently tried G+ at all the parks, and it's only worth paying for at the Magic Kingdom.

The individual lightning lane purchases are worth it at all the parks because it means you don't have to wait in two long lines at the park you have reserved that day. You can spend time waiting in another line. The longest wait we had was for Avatar Flight Of Passage and that was a 2 hour wait.

Even with some of the disappointing news(Nemo show being replaced by a sing along etc,) there's still Magic to be found. I'd think you'd still enjoy.

I love that those nimrods still think that availability is because of cancellation. I can tell you with certainty that every resort on the property has opened availability in the last six months, because they weren't selling at capacity in the first place. I know cruise line has been doing the same.

It's also possible that some people might be cancelling, but for reasons other than "I read social media all day every day, and the twitters tell me it will suxors."

For sure. Covid isn't "over," certainly.
