You know those people who ride the coaster on The Discovery Channel coaster show? How did they get on it?!? I emailed them ,The Discovery Channel, but i never got a response.

Ask DAN!!! He can tell you how he got on Discovery Channel!

hehehehe...I love watching Dan narrate Magnum. It is so choice. He does a great job!

Just call me MPG...

Those people who ride the Roller Coasters on TV are members of Coaster Clubs (mostly ACE).

Not true. My wife and I have been to the shoots, and of course Dan was Magnum boy, and we're not ACE members.

Generally speaking the park has a number of "groupies" that have developed relationships with the park over time. Because these are generally people the park has known for several years, they trust them to present the park in a certain light. That's what's going on in many of these cases.

So if i wanted to do Nitro i have to ride it like 500 times! Maybe i'll email them and they would be thrilled to let me, lol. I'm know in the security center cause I call some much. Hopefully working there will help.

Jeff is right in the cases of people who are "showcased" to describe the rides.  The "extras" usually get invites through ACE or other clubs or by knowing someone.

I got invited to do the Discovery shoot for Acrophobia at SFoG due to ACE membership...couldn't make it without missing two days work.  Also got an invite to due a SeaWorld commercial for Kraken's opening, but I found out the day before the shoot, and couldn't take a day off without notice...kinda regret missing that one.  I'll get one for the opening of Apollo13, with any luck...;~)..

But the people featured on the videos are, as noted, people the park already knows...

rollergator, you should be able to have that Apollo 13 luck that you are talking about sometime by the end of this season or early next season. I know the park is open year around, but i am talking in park terms like six flags great america, and all the other parks with the off season. By the way, i dont know where they are going to attach the camera in those trains, they have absolutely no where to mount it not like normal trains. They will just have to make something up.
What kind of Coaster is Apollo 13?
Jeff is correct in that the parks want people who they can trust and will say positive things about the ride and the park. Last August we got to ride Raven for Discovery's 2002 Top 10. My wife and youngest son also got to take a ride in the seat with camera in their face. Not sure if we will make the final cut but it was fun nonetheless.

We are paid by those who have learned from our mistakes.

With Cedar Point, most of the people in the Discovery Channel film shoots are park employees...The park basicly ask for ride operators that want to get up at 6 a.m. and ride the ride a few times...

That's interesting... of the two I've been to everyone on the train was a non-employee, but I know there were quite a few on the Magnum shoot (Natalie, among others).

Wow... just noticed that Kevin signed up the second day the site was live. That's a long time to wait to make a first post!

Many times employees are invited to participate also.  That's the case with SFOG's Acrophobia shoot.
Actually a member of the Cedar Point marketing team called my house and asked if I was interested in doing it.  At one point they asked if they could come to my house and film my bedroom as well.

Oh no! The "Maple Leaf" is starting to post here now? There goes the neighborhood.

Anyway, I too was @ the Raven shoot. I got to be in front of the camera too (hope it didnt break :)). But that was because the wonderful Koch's, via their vertible conduit Ms. Maven, sent out a blanket casting call.

But I know the guy that did the narration for Hypersonic actually is a ride op @ PKD.

I was in a shoot for The Hulk. The Florida Coaster Club was invited by the Production company and Universal Orlando. There were also ride op's and other people the park had invited for the shoot. Look for it to be on Top Ten Coasters on the Discovery Channel on Memorial day.

Well, I got to do the Discovery Channel shoot for Batwing, because Sam Marks from Coaster Zombies asked me to. They are looking for not only enthusiasm, but people who aren't well known in the security office:) (hint, hint).

If you have to figure out how to ride a coaster to be comfortable, then that's not a coaster worth riding.
