Disappointing Carowinds news

I don't know for sure, but there is probably a height restriction in effect for the area Carowinds is in. I agree though, I'd welcome a Nitro clone a little closer to home!

The Skytower is 320 feet tall, if they can pull that off I doubt that a hyper would fall outside any restrictions that may exist.

Oh my heart bleeds, KI's getting nothing but a water ride as well and actually removing TRTR.

Besides, You got our flyers, That means you must DIE! :)

^AFAIK KI wasn't mentioned in the press release as getting anything new for 08.
To save money,They could move the old wave pool from GL... :)

Where are the Flyers, anyway? (The next-to-last time I was there, a good bit of the park was pretty dead with Top Gun being closed, and then I was there for SCarowinds and could hardly find my way around at all.) Sounds like something I need to look into! :)

It just particularly rankles because CW already *has* a wavepool-- do they really need another? I would've been a little less upset if they'd gotten some unique new water slide or something, but...

I may have to check out the park during a concert sometime. Weekdays will be fun too, if I can manage it. Maybe I'll get my "revenge" by putting on a bathing suit and checking out the wavepool. I'll probably blind everybody with my pale, pale skin! :) :) LOL

I still think that's one of the best-looking coasters ever designed. I hardly ever hear anything about it anymore. I wonder if it's as good as it looks?

It's fantastic Rob. I road it the year it opened. Fantastic! I don't know if it's still running as smooth now?

Expedition G Force is still the best coaster i've ridden in Europe. Silverstar came close, but not close enough.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I haven't heard that TR:TR was being removed. Where did they state that? AFAIK, it's just being worked on.
I've heard people complain about Silver Star which is odd because it looks to be a lot like Nitro and most people seem to enjoy that thing (myself included).

Sick, man... SICK!

Thanks for the appropriate corrections to my misconceived notion that Carowinds could never have a "Hyper" (Travio and CoastaPlaya). And special thanks to those who posted links to the "Mega" coasters that look totally fun! Consider me corrected!

I always heard that while Silver Star's layout is Nitro-esque, it's brakes are at Raging Bull levels.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Correct Andy... The ride is braked on each of the hills after the first drop! Plus, Mack insisted on keeping it "family friendly" and got a really tame design.
I decided to have some fun in No Limits and I took the brakes out (except for the midcourse), and I still think it would be a fairly tame ride.

According to the NL recreation and a YouTube video I watched, there are only two brakes besides the midcourse out on the course. Am I missing something, or have more brakes been added?

Please don't post such dramatic headlines when unwarranted - I thought they were taking out the mine train or something. sheesh
I'm going back to the topic. Carowinds is adding a water ride, so what's wrong with that ? When I was there in August they had many sprinklers throughout the park. From what I have seen, a wet kid is a happy kid; that is what they are going for. Remember, us thrill seekers are the minority. I know, this is a coaster forum so we are always going to complain when we don't get another 200+ ft thing that scares all the "normal" people.

Busch Gardens Europe Is The Best !
Your statement "us thrill seekers are a minority" doesn't exactly bode well with a company that continually provides record breaking coasters at it's flagship park. Cedar Fair does an outstanding job of providing thrills. It just so happens, Carowinds thrills will be of the water variety in 2008. Our time is coming.
Hey, there's plenty of land to use that is currently the camp grounds! ;)
I didn't mean to worry anybody with that post! :) I just wish they'd given us something better/more than ANOTHER wave pool. A good flat ride, a dark ride, or something in that vein. It's been a long time since Carowinds has gotten anything new in the non-water ride category.

I was hoping something good would come for 2008, because right now I'm literally in a good position to enjoy it-- I live about 20 miles from the park (give or take) versus the 120 (or so) that I used to. I probably won't be living here that long (going to school for a master's) so I want to enjoy this as much as I can.

They did throw us a bit of a bone at least-- now if you get a season pass you get into the SCarowinds Halloween Haunt next year for free-- yippee! And the way I understand things, since they reduced the price for our passes, I'll be getting a small refund, too. Free parking will also be nice.

I was just hoping that I'd get lucky next year, and they'd put in something new that I could really enjoy. It seems like other parks get new coasters and/or rides much more often, but that's probably just a matter of perspective. Heck, Kennywood gets a new ride of some kind almost every year! And they're a smaller park. I miss Kennywood...

I'm seriously hoping to make up for all of the years I couldn't afford to go to amusement parks this coming year! Last year seriously sucked-- I got to "go" to the MB Pavilion before it closed, but I didn't have the money to ride anything. :( :( Before that, the last time I'd been to a park was Kennywood in 2001.

Oh well, *IF* Carowinds gets a great new coaster in 2009, it might be enough incentive to get me to stick around for a month or so after I graduate! :)

Now I just have to wait until March 21-- opening day 2008!
