Digital Cameras!

I just purchased a brand new digital camera(Cannon Powershot A40) but I am debating if I should bring it to opening day at SFWoA or not. I really have no pictures of the park, and it would be fun to get some, but is it worth the risk of it getting it damaged or lost? Would people with digital cameras tell me what you do? Thanks!

Take a good look at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure because in a few years the Sea World side will look exactly like it does, a zoo.

Its your call. Damage or theft is always a possibility when taking the item to a highly populated area like a park... If it isnt big, and can slip into a pocket, fanny pack or purse, i say go for it.

Canon makes a good product. I just wish I could take my XL1 on Mantis.

I bring my camera to SFNE all the time. I reccomend having a carrying case even though it might look like you're wearing a purse. In the long run, it'll help.

I took mine last year to Worlds of Adventure...

It was basically no problem, but I had a lot of pockets in my jean shorts. As long as they are baggy and roomy, you should have no problem. I think they are a little b*tchy on X-Flight on bringing ANYTHING on that coaster, and I ain't going to leave no $400 camera with them... so I bring it on, and it's perfectly safe.

I heard that they are b*tches about general pictures in the park, but I snapped a ton, and had no problem at all with them saying anything, so I wouldn't worry about that.

It works fine as long as you got somewhere to store it while your on the ride so you don't have to hold onto it!
(BTW: mine is a little bulkier Kodak DC, so it's tougher than the newer & more powerful ones that are smaller than 35mm, so it should be even less of a problem).

I used to, and will start again, taking digital pix at MM, KBF, and DL. I never used a carrying case, i had a really huge pocket! But definatly the carrying case is a great idea. I'll actually have to buy a new camera cuz of not using a carrying case!

i came back from Paramount's Carowinds from spring break where i took 65 digital pics. i had no problem at all! stayed in pocket, took on all coasters. at the begining when i rode top gun 3 times in a row. i took it out for pix on the coaster, and i couldnt get it in my pocket on the ride, so i held it for 3 trips. so, if u bring it, keep it in ur pocket on a ride, if u take it out, u have to hold it!

I really don't like carrying my camera in a cargo pocket because when I am running it swings all over the place. It has injured me and can hit somebody else when running. Digital cameras can be heavy. And let me tell you, they are painful when you smack it against your leg. Also, I have smacked it against an object when running by it at the park. That didn't make me too happy.

I lost my camera on Kraken in February during the 0g roll but at least it was only a disposable one.
I just got a Fuji 2600, which is a dream. I broke it in last week at Knoebels and Conneaut. I usually designate a photo time for my park visits, so it is only with me during that time. A $300 toy is a terrible thing to lose! :) Ahhh...the beauty of USB instant downloading.....Congrats on your new investment.

I never lost anything at a Themepark. If you bring your new camera, you won't forget you have it. Plus it should have a strap which you can wear on your wrist. I brought my Canon Powershot S30 on Nitro and got the best pictures i've ever seen. Just wish I didn't get a Visus and lose them.

RESIDENT EVIL: BIOHAZARD! Scaring up some HELL only on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE!!!!!

Yeah, I would never bring an expensive camera to an amusement park unless I had a whussy family member to leave it with. :) But then again, I am not the most responsible person when it comes to not losing things.

And nitro230ft, I agree with your signature 100 percent! I bought Resident Evil last night and can only play it in 20 minute periods becuase thats how freaken scary it is.

Definitely your call, but I take my digital camera (Olympus 3040Z) with me to parks all the time. I have a pretty big belt bag that I stash the camera, my diabetes supplies, and basically anything else I don't want to lose, lined with fairly firm foam.

This year I'm going to be experimenting with a vest I bought that has a ton of pockets, but I suspect on hot days it won't be too comfortable.

If you're going to be taking your digicam with you to parks, and haven't bought it yet, perhaps consider getting the "extended replacement big rop off" warranty that best buy and other places try to push on you. then, when you break it due to gross negelgence you can jsut take it back and demand another...

I need a good case for my Canon G2. I'm afraid the velcro shut cases will come open on rides. :) Any recommendations?

Last year, I took my digi cam (a bulky Kodak DC290) in the park for a couple hours, took pics, then took it back out to the car for the rest of the day.

BTW, how is BGW w/ on ride pics?

If you bring a case and take good care of your camera, then it won't be a problem. I've taken my digital cameras to SFoG several times, and on every visit to WDW and IOA/USF.

The only rides where you'll see a problem are the water rides. But, if your camera is in a solid case, thenthat shouldn't be a problem at all.

ive always got my digital camera with me now. it fits right in my pocket, and has always been fine. just be careful on the coasters with it, if i know someone when i ride a coaster ill usually ask them to hold onto it otherwise ill make sure i keep my hand on my pocket just to make sure its safe. (that is if i dont take it out and snap a few onride pics) ;)

if you dont want to keep it in your pocket, case logic makes great digital camera cases! ive got one of those to :)

If you take your camera to the park, be sure to take a few zip lock bags. They can save your camera if the skies open up.

I was just about to post a topic on here about cameras. I am going to bring a disposable camera tomorrow.

I also have a question. After seeing that most of the parks at Coastercon will not allow cameras on the rides. I was a bit disappointed cause I thought they wouold let us after seeing on ride vidoes and pictures. My question is does anyone know if people sneak cameras on to the rides to get these pictures? Thanks.

RllrCstrDude187 - you can easily sneek a reg/digital camera on any ride. just put in your pocket ive done it alot, and have pics if you want to see

I just wish that my digital had a longer lens. I find that I do a lot of coaster photography at telephoto focal lengths. My 35 is a pain to haul around, but I have lens from 19mm to 400mm which lets me get anything. Actually, I can usually get along just fine with a range of 28-200.
