Raptor's layout and pacing are unique. There are a lot of B&M inverted coasters out there, but time after time Raptor ranks high in the polls. Its layout is one-of-a-kind. Many of the other inverted layouts are strikingly similar to each other, but Raptor's layout is largely a function of its footprint. It was desinged for the space it's in. That forced Walter and Claude to design it in such a way that the elements fall in to place one after another in an almost perfect way.
Examples of other unique inverted coasters might include Alpengeist and Montu, among others.

Andrew, best doesnt mean unique and also saying the word best is just an opinion. If you want to talk about unique than Batman the Ride at SFGAm is unique. (First inverted and obviously it was the original track layout before all the clones were built.)
You'll really dig Raptor when you get there this summer. Still one of my favorites!

First a response to punk. I have been going to CP every year for nearly the last twenty. CP is by far my favorite park to attend because of both the ride selection as well as personal sentemental feelings for the place.
I have rode the Mean Streak and remember the year it opened when it was truey a ride to behold. It was fast and a lot more fun. It wasn't smooth like a steel ride ( after all who really wants that out a wooden coaster?), but it didn't punch you in the kidneys during the ride either. Great fun and great airtime on the third hill.
Chang was almost an exact copy of Mantis except at the very end. It was only a couple of feet higher, same loop, same diving loop, same 45 degree turn. Just a few less inversions. But i like them both.
I'll try explaining again in a different way. Record breaking really isn't part of a "unique" coaster. i'm sorry if anyone got that impression from my post. The footprint, elements, look and what the designer is trying to get across are all part of a unique ride. For example Magnum (which is my personal fav coaster on the planet)is great for height, speed, and airtime among other features. But there are other out-and-back hyper coasters out there that offer the same thing. This doesn't detract from the superior nature (in my opinion) of the magnum. But someone from Minnesota who visits Vallyfair! and rides the Wildthing can get the same idea from it. The Magnum, while in its first few years, was unique, is no longer. On the other hand i have been thinking about the Gemini and have changed my mind and will say that it is unique, whereas i thought not at first. It's a tall, steel, racing coaster. I haven't come across any like that before. In fact i am unaware of a steel racer anywhere. And they still run both sides. Collossus doesn't if i am correct.(if not i'm sure someone will set me straight).

Raptor has won many awards so whoever votes for it as "the best this and the best that" must really think it is unique. Gemini I think is the most unique ride in Cedar Point because you never have time to rest because there is always a sharp turn or bunny hill or the point where the wood supports almost cut off your head. Gemini is awesome. Cedar Point probably has the best collection of "unique rides" than any other park, at least that is my opinion!

Yeah, I think I do remember MS being just as rough back when it opened as it is now. If anything, it was worse because no one knew about keeping their head off the back of the seat. I had such a headache afterward I had lay down somewhere and sleep for the rest of the day.

Hope to see you there to MFBound. Jeff, I am 100% sure I will love Raptor. Being that it is bigger and faster than Batman the Ride makes that a definite. However, being that I was one of the first in the world to ride an inverted coaster I will always have to give props to Batman at SFGAm. My first ride on it and I was instantly in love with the new creation in coaster design. When you visit in early June I think you will enjoy it. Although I know Raging Bull is probably the first on your priority list when you visit. Let me know what day you are going. It would be cool to hook up you and ride coasters.
