Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will seek to bring Disney's special governing district under direct state control in a bid to end the entertainment giant's multi-decade arrangement with the Sunshine State. DeSantis is expected to appoint a new board to control Reedy Creek.

That's what I don't get. There are a lot of actual problems that government could in fact solve or work toward resolving. But let's elect people obsessed with revenge games and sticking it to Disney and drag queens. I feel like I've wandered into some kind of alternate universe.

John Oliver has a piece this week on Desantis. The facts are pretty damning when it comes to his petty grievance politics, and the court failures.

My impression is that the only meaningful change is an expense to change the name of the district everywhere.

This one references retaining a law firm. Presumably that was the "Special Counsel" reference on the agenda.
The board also approved hiring the same law firm that advised the governor's office in making changes to the governing district to help interpret the new legislation.
So, a side benefit is siphoning off some of Disney's funds to pay a law firm that I presume is run by friends of the governor?
Or is that the main benefit?
The new name will require a new logo to replace the old one that's on 123 vehicles, 300 trash cans and 1,000 manhole covers, district administrator John Classe told board members.
Probably some more friends and family of the governor. Remember, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Yeah I posted this a a new news item. Disney played 3-D chess with this move. The fact that it was all out in the open and no one picked up on it until now is freaking hilarious.
