Demo Released

Yeah, but that only tells you thoughts about that ride.

In the older versions you could see how many peeps were thinking the same (or certain) things.

Like if 60 peeps were thinking "This path is digusting" you knew you missed an area with a handyman. You could just click the thought, then click the individual people thinking the thought and instantly find the problem.

I haven't seen any of that in RCT3.

Just another piece of functionality and a good playing tool gone in the name of pretty graphics and sandbox-style play...

...sigh

I to like Gonch have had no trouble with the Demo. I have also played it the 45 minutes and had no trouble...it never crashed with me once in fact I have played it again.I have played with it some have not got used to the coaster building yet...but I will continue to play with it as Gonch did and I am sure it will come to me. But the system I have is a Sony Vaio Intel 4 with a 2.66ghz a g-force 64mb video card as well as a new 128mb harddrive...so as Gonch I guess I am lucky as well. But as for now eveything is running smooth and I think it is going to be one great game once I get used to the coaster building!! *** Edited 9/27/2004 11:49:23 PM UTC by Evolution*** *** Edited 9/27/2004 11:50:17 PM UTC by Evolution***
The demo won't load up at all for me! A message appears that says, "IDirect3D::CreateDevice failed.", then it says press "Ok" to attempt to continue, but when I do another error message comes up that says it's about to shut down then it doesn't open. Can anyone help me with it?

Someone who gossips to you, will gossip about you.

I am seriously pissed off, I downloaded the demo, install it, goes to the black screen and BAM!! An error:

IDirect3d....sumthing sumthing, i click Ok to continue running, and Bam again, closes the progam and that is it.

Why does God hate me, what shall I do, i used the link of this site, would it work if I downloaded it again from a different site???

OK, here is what you have to do:

1. Go to your control panel. Turn the control panel into classic view and double click on the System icon.

2. Click on the hardware tab. Then click on device manager.

3. Click on the thing that says display options. Double click on your video driver thing (mine says Radeon IGP...)

4. Click on the tab that says "drivers" and then the button that says "update drivers".

5. Use the automatic update to find a new driver. Install the driver and have your computer restarted.

6. The demo SHOULD work!

I got the same exact error. I was really frustrated when I couldn't play the demo. It was an error with the video card driver. Try what it says above. Hopefully it should work.

My opinion on the demo? There really isn't enough there to form a complete opinion yet. The coaster cam rocks! But the controls seem a bit clunky and harder to get used to than the old controls (but that might take some time). The fireworks seem like a neat feature as well. Can't wait for the full version!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the "pre-built" "overbanked-like" turns. I thought things looked more fluid than 1 and 2. I'm excited to see what other pieces there will be for the rest of the coasters.

Also, I was playing with an invert tonight and ended up with an 18 car train. Bug or no?

Well... as a little update... I updated my Radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder drivers, and it seemed to help a LITTLE... XP is now being a real retard by saying I got new hardware & won't disappear as I boot up the computer...

...but the game played very well and I was being as hard on it as I could. It wasn't until the VERY end where I was exiting at the exit splash screen (the one that says coming November 2004) where it crashed my computer again...

...the rest of the same is checking out ok... although if you ride some of the rides, you will notice some glitches where as in the Ranger... er... inverted ship 01, I was riding with some peeps, and when the ship was completely inverted, 2 peeps disappeared for a second, and popped back up as the ship came thru... happened each time the ship was completely inverted. I'm not sure if they fell out, and then fell back in, or if it's a glitch!!

I say to everyone who's having a lot of problems... make SURE you have the VERY latest drivers for your video card & sound card. That has helped me greatly, and should help you, if your card meets the requirements.

I wouldn't get down on not having a particular game element until you can actually tell it affects game play. With what we have, it's not enough to make any real calls on how good the game is or isn't.

So... anyone else find it odd that the observation tower just sort-of sits on the grass, and has no connecting path between the entrance and exit and the ride itself?

Also, it lets me choose 2 cars for the tower.

So, you're telling me that now that I accidentally clicked medium for my graphics setting, there's no way to change it ever?

One of my biggest complaints so far: When you toggle on the "show ride heights" tab, and you're using the observation tower, the heights show up behind the tower, so you can't see the friggin' numbers. You have to zoom the whole way out for the heights to move themselves to the front.

Also, when I demolished the Ranger, the peeps stayed in their riding positions, floating in mid-air, and still had their restraints on.

"And another thing! How come I can't get no Tang around here?"

Hi

Those graphics settings, as I said, are actually collections of graphics settings... some arbitrary levels for each of the various sliders. You can still tweak them all individually.

Try this steps in getting the game to work if you get an error about 3d.

(Beware this took me 4 hours of downloading and installing)!

1. Go to RUN and type in dxdiag

2.When the direct x loads click the Display tab.

3. Check to make sure you have direct 3d enabled.

a. If it is I'm not sure what to do.

b. If it is not try enabling, or testing.

c. If the box is light grey in color and won't let you

click it go on to step (4).

4. Go to your windows update, you might try this link http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us

5. Update and restart computer.(If your computer is fully updated skip this step).

6. Next go to this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ec97a1fb-4305-4758-b7c4-5a12b3fe8ec2&DisplayLang=en , and install the direct x 9.0b SDK Extras: Direct 3d

7. Restart if asked to. Then go back to step 1 through 2. Enable directx 3d if needed then try the game again.

I ran the game just fine on an Emachines, AMD 64 processor, and ATI Radeon 9600. I do not garantee this to work because I done this a week ago to play railroad tycoon 3 because I got an error message about my direct3d. It did help on that game with the 3d. If this works please post so others know it may help them, and so I know also.

Thanks.

Ahh... I'll have to try that. Thanks. [ <--- referring to Jeff's post. -Edit.]

...also spending any time at all to write the code for 3-D fireworks shows I think was a waste of time when, like Lord Gonchar referred to, there are key interface elements that should have been worked on and included instead. *** Edited 9/28/2004 1:11:19 AM UTC by kpjb***

I'm having the same problems...I've tried all the suggestions, wit no success...sorry I can't help.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

I haven't had any problems at all. I really can't wait for the full release after toying around with the demo for a bit. I'm sure any glitches there are, will be smoothed out by then. There's so much to do in this game, I feel overwhelmed with it for the first time since the original RCT. :)

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

You really don't have to have the latest and greatest video card to play this game.

I have an AThlon 1.53 Ghz and a fairly old Geforce 3 Ti 200 and I can run the game totally fine at 1024x768 and almost every graphical setting high.

This is just a demo, so I don't get why everyone is getting bent out of shape already. It has glitches, like building the invert and being able to make it a 200+ mph powered launch :) You really don't need the latest and greatest either. I have a P4 1.4 and GeForce 2 MX400.... it hasn't crashed or frozen yet. And you can track the trains' speed by using the "chart" button, it's a line graph, but better than nothing I guess.

If anyone is getting a message that says: "IDirect3D::CreateDevice failed", look at what I posted further up on THIS page. I had the same problem and those steps should fix the problem. It did for me!

Pure Virtual Function Call is what my error says....hmmm, no idea! *** Edited 9/28/2004 2:24:26 AM UTC by cdrpointcrazy44***

Yeah but if you have my error, look at what I posted earlier!

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

What some of you call "fine" performance is relative. Anything under 30 fps at the bottom of the range isn't good enough for me.

Oh, I mentioned them in one of my 7000 posts in this thread.

I hate them.

My gripes at this point aren't 'glitch' related or performance related or compatibility related at all.

They're game related. Specifically, building a coaster is exactly the same with the addition of a large cork piece and those goofy overbank pieces. I'd rather have seen a little more personal control or a whole lot more in terms of new pieces available. (maybe the final release?)

The flats are pretty, but after you 'oooh and ahhhh' a few times, it's the same old 'drop and forget'.

I do dig the gazillion extra options on the food, drink and merch stands.

I hate the scenery at this point and REALLY hate that the wall pieces cannot share a square. That was one of the biggest complaints about the RCT2 add-on scenery. It took a square to itself and this crap does too. Also it seems you have to 'shift and raise' all the pieces - no CTRL button to build horizontally on equal levels. Overall, this is a theme whore's nightmare.

But hey, the game runs great. The scenarios still appear to be ridiculously easy. I've spent WAY too much time with the game today and I'll buy it when it's out.
