Demise of buzzbars - what's up with these lapbars?

Ah Knoebel's :-)

Twister might not have buzz bars but if you go during a special event it might as well :-) I got a mini-marathon of 1 click rides on it during the RRC 10th Anniversary Celebration and was suitably impressed, ditto with the Raven, even though it had it's buzzers removed during SRM 1 click rides are completely acceptable so it's not that big of a deal to me.

I still have to agree with most of the posters on here that nothing comes even close to the buzz bar experience though, particularly in vintage NAD trains (no seat dividers!)

I need to get back to PA soon :-)

Buzzbars are my restraint of choice for wooden coasters. GCI coasters currently with PTC trains might be more fun if they had the buzz bars instead of the ratcheting. Also, while the Wild One at SFA was still "wild" (pre-SFA seasons), it had buzz bars. Now that it's the Mild One, it has a milder ride AND individual ratcheting bars! What's up with that? My favorite wooden coaster is the Phoenix, and it has those single-notch buzz bars. Seatbelts are an ok addition, but when you have ratcheting bars & seatbelts . . . what's the point of that? Coasters with buzz bars also require less people to check the bars, thus enabling quicker dispatches. Out of all the newer safety devices on PTC trains (headrests, seat dividers, seatbelts, individual ratcheting lap bars), the lap bars are the part that bother me the most. Anyway, just my 2 cents . . . anybody feel the same, including about the Wild One at SFA?

Ben

Let us all pause now for a moment of silence for those rides that used to have buzzbars but have since been "improved for your safety."
I hate to think about it! There has to be some new restraint design to make up for the loss of the bar. There are too many!

Although nonenthusiast riders, and children, probaly feel safer and like it. Nothing worse than getting in a car with those loose springs. The Gerslauters at MB were bad for it, but the last half of this last season, they stopped coming down. I didn't get any rides where it moved on me. I hope it was some sort of spring repair, and not rust, but if rust does the trick.......

Let me clarify something...

Doesn't Rolling Thunder have buzz bars?

Well if it does, then those bars are the best. You can get the maximum amount of air, keeping it safe at the same time. However, I have seen people try to climb out of them on the lift, causing the ride to be shut down. That is the only problem with them I can think of.

Hey Ben I couldn't agree more.I would love to see WO @ SFA run with the old buzz bars.I would love to see that for it's 85th anniversary next season,if not the next best thing would be to install intamin t- bars like on their hypers. Now your talking serious airtime with those .
I have been very vocal of my dislike of the Seat Divider/Ratcheting bar trains.

With all do Respect to PTC and their reliable and superior product.

Please go back to the drawing board!

A T-bar,  A outside the train pull down U bar, Something like Phantoms Revenges  bar.

Anyone else notice how much longer a ratchet and seatbelt equipt train takes to dispatch?

I understand there is a huge liablity involved, mainly to keep people from doing stupid things.

Chuck, who loves a PTC ride and comfort of seats and padding but just don't feel that a wood coaster was ever meant to be ridden in a boxed in possition.
