There is such thing as a dangerous coaster I garantee you that.  How do you explain coaster accidents, not all of them are the riders fault.  Such as all the boomerang trains that have gotten stuck between the two corkscrews.  Coasters that are put together poorly, maintained poorly, and just all out treated poorly are dangerours coasters.

I eat glue.
But just because a coaster has valleyed doesn't mean it is dangerous.  If that were the case, from what I have witnessed, Elitch's Sidewinder, Boomerang, and Twister II would be considered dangerous.

Exactly, when has a valley ever caused harm?
I know that on Space Mountain at WDW there are some fricken low clearences. I also heard something about when Shaq rode it they told him to keep his head down.

Where has the magic gone in the name Disney?

I wouldn't really call it dangerous but Jack Rabbit at Kennywood is really pushing the limits. It has a single leather strap and the most insane air time on the planet. There is practically nothing holding you in, but your hands on the big squishy bar.

Guys, guys, guys!  I appreciate all the sarcasm, but in fact, as Denver said, there are indeed dangerous coasters out there that have had accidents glossed over, and that is what I am wondering about.  Again, Mindbender and Collossus, etc.  What coasters have had deaths (and/or other accidents) that might seem to be more common to that particular ride?  They have to exist......... and again, obviously not dangerous anymore (or I hope not), but have troubling records.

In terms of fatalites, coaster deaths are quite rare.  I've got pretty good records on all fatal coaster accidents in the US and Canada for last 30 years, and I can't think of a coaster that has had more than one fatal accident.  (The Mindbender accident killed more than one person, but in just one accident, and the cause was corrected.)  There could be a very old coaster that has some accidental fatalites that go back farther than my records.  There are a number of coasters over 70 years old out there.

I don't know of any good records for non-fatal accidents.  Remember, you are much more likely to be killed in the car ride to the park than in an amusement ride accident.

Someone mentioned Le Monstre, and they are correct about close clearances.  The park carefully avoids racing Le Monstre anymore because the tracks are close enough together at times to tempt riders to reach out and touch hands.  The only problem is that around a corner there suddenly appears a large timber sticking up between the tracks.  To my knowledge, Le Monstre has not had any fatal accidents.

Most commonly though, it's not the design that scares me, it is poor maintenance or operations.

Oh sure, and I am not concerned about coaster riding.  I love it, just curious.

It's too bad that the fact that LaRonde doesn't seem to race the two coasters makes it a poorer experience. The very few times I have been on it when they did run both at the same time made the ride much more exciting. Even though logic says that I won't hit my hands against the big steel girders that run through it (and most other woodies), I still put them down, and yes, am embarresed about it:)

Hey, I put my hands down on two coasters everytime.  White Cyclone and Tremors.  I know that I can't hit my hands on Tremors, although it is close.  WC is another story.  You can see that the supports are too close, and the idea of losing my hands, which are my talents, is not a good one.

The real problem with Le Monstre is the vertical timbers between the tracks.  This is why the operators systematically avoid racing.  Even if both coasters are ready at the same time the operators deliberately dispatch one, then wait to dispatch the second.

I have hit my hand on tree branches a few times on the Whizzer @ SFGAm (accidently) and boy did it smart!  I wouldnt recommend trying to grab branches on purpose on that ride.

...you CAN also touch the ground on Kumba's finish, and the bush in the middle of Scorpion...not recommended, though, LOL...

the only coaster that i think is dangerous is the williams grove cyclone because it is delapitated. some of the small portable coasters can be scary.
HA HA The Williams Grove Cyclone. That thing is in bad shape. The one time when I was there the ride op released the train from the station then a girl lifted up the lap bar while going up the lift. The ride op yelled hold on!
Wasn't there a problem with one of the flat rides at the ACE event last year. For some reason I'm thinking either the Swings or the Paratroopers didn't go up in the air with if fully loaded. It just spun around in the loading position.
I wonder how that park passes inspecton every year.
Actually I think the brakes on the Paratroopes didn't work and they had to spin in the loading position untill it stopped. All the times I was ther the ride op had to grad a hold of  one of the seats and run behind it to slow it down.

I agree with what fof is saying most of the time coaster injuries or even deaths are caused by people not paying attention and I think coasters are safe.

This will be my 8th year at Valleyfair! I know 2003 will be our turn!
You can hit your hands on the helix tunnel of The Beast (I`ve done it once when I was holding my hands up.  I never hold my hands up on that part of the ride.  You should listen to them when they say "please keep your hands down and inside the car")  Also once this past year, there were three deer standing no more than ten feet from the track right before the second lift.  They were just watching the coaster and eating something.

I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

When I rode Whizzer in 2001, someone in front of me came back to the station with a good size stick in there hand.
