Cyclops at Mount Olympus

Its a great drop...def one of the best in wood coasterdom. I was probably expecting WAY too much from it.

... or it could have been the kick a$$ Arnold's Park Legend we rode the day before... ;)

I bet you don't hit the bar as hard as you would on Coaster at PNE (for those that have ridden her). ;)

I have never been on that one, but on Cyclops for a long time I could not stop myself from hitting the bar no matter how hard I tried. I would grip the bar with both hands underhanded and brace both feet and tighten the belt all the way, and then BAM! like I had done nothing.

I always wondered about that coaster and was going to try it last year but Avalanche was so good I never got around to it. Maybe I should check it out.

LOL Scott! ;) Arnold Park's Legend was truly the wrong coaster to start the trip with...nothing else on the trip could possibly live up to something that good.

RavTTD - AP is a quint little park with a hella-fun woodie. We all thought it was the "Indiana Beach of Iowa."

There's beaches in Iowa? ;)

I've heard enough about the parks in Iowa (mostly from the happy couple Dawn and Moosh), I'm convinced....and going there this summer!

Yes gator, we have beaches in Iowa, all people think is that we have cornfields and cows. A lot of people don't realize that we used to be the #1 state of jello as well as Pepsi consumers not to mention we have some famous movies that were filmed in Iowa not to mention the "birthplace" of James T Kirk.

The cornfields and cows aren't too bad either. As we drove through the state last summer, I thought that I was in the middle of a Gateway ad or something. Lake Okoboji is a great location for Arnold's Park. I too thought that it was kind of like Indiana Beach. I thought that it was fascinating to read the little plaque they have there telling about the lake and how there is actually a lake of supercool water down underneath the top half of the lake and that the two bodies of water don't intermingle at all.

Getting back to the airtime discussion. For me the backseat air on Cyclops or in a similar sense The Georgia Cyclone is different because the airtime is combined with a drop that it somewhat curved. It combines the standup air with a tilt that literally almost spills you out of your seat. The air on Coaster at Playland is extreme and makes you standup but is delievered on drops that are pretty straightforward. The Legend at Arnold's Park has probably the strongest ejector air I've ever experienced. It can downright hurt on that final return lag paralleling the lake. You really have to watch yourself if your a guy.;)

LOL Pale Rider!

There's nothing better [and more scary] than that moment on AP Legend's final turn when you realize just how fast the train is moving as those last two bunny hops approach. Talk about "hurts so good!"

Oh, wait...what do I know about agressive coasters? According to Beast Tamer I'm a wimp. Never mind ;)

Yes, like Field of Dreams, which - surprise! - took place largely in a corn field.

Who is James T Kirk?
I know not everyone isn't a Star Trek fan(atic), but you don't know Captain Kirk's name?

Yeah, Shatner even came to the town of his "birthplace" (Riverside) and did a show for Spike TV, it was on a couple weeks ago, pretty funny.

What is that old saying about even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every so often? ;)

You're not a wimp, necessarily, just VERY selective about what you ride, and how often...LOL...:)

So I rode it. Yeah, its good air but it didn't live up to the hype. At the very least it suffered from overhype or anticipointment. Sitting in the last row I thought the air coming off the lift was better than that on the last drop. And I didn't think the last drop was any more or less intense than other infamous "5th Drops" on Raven, Ghostrider, and others.

Blasphemer! You have angered the gods. ;) Yeah, so I knew that writing my statement would start a whole debate, but it's just my opinion. Take that for what it's worth, which isn't much. ;) It's just the best wooden coaster I've been on, including over Raven, Legend and the Phoenix. That's a tough list to top, I know that, but Cyclops pulled it off when I was there. I was blown away when I rode.

That's the great thing about our hobby, it's very subjective and statements like mine initiate interesting "discussions"... :) *** Edited 4/14/2005 8:38:04 PM UTC by JustinAdams***

If you jump off a cliff, you might as well learn to fly since you've got nothing to lose
Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, I've done a few of the CCIs people rave about (Raven, Legend, Ghosty, BD, ST, 'Clops and a few others)...but actually the Boss tops my list.

Simply put, I despise PTC trains with those stupid orange lapbars. I just don't get air in them. I can tell you where air's supposed to be, but that's about it.

'Clops gets wayyyy more points in my book simply for having what I consider to be better trains. I probably would have preferred Legend with G-trains. GR with 'Clops trains? Now you're talking.

But the tall-but-not-too-tall, rough-but-interesting and PTC-free Boss? The only thing you could do to improve that thing is seat me next to some hot young gal in a tank top. It's just that good.

Haha, that's what you get for being in shape. Grow a gut and see how much air you can get in a PTC.
Cyclops runs a five car train, but has queues for six. I've often wondered if it ever ran all six - or if the back car was too much and removed before it opened.

Anyone remember?

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them".

Yes, it ran six cars but I don't remember for how many years. For a long time the sixth car was sitting in the back of the park, but it disappeared a couple of years ago.

Come to think of it, you hit the nail right on the head.

I used to weigh between 260 and 275 before dropping to 210. And the sensation I get on PTCs is what I'd call 'air' when I was heavy and couldn't actually sail out of a seat. PTCs = Fat Guy Air, no matter how much you weigh. Couldn't have said it better myself!

I never watched Star Trek in my life. Of course I've never worn a "patch jacket" to a coaster event either... :-)
