Criteria for photos accepted into database?

Submitted 5, 3 accepted, which is fine. I was just wondering if there was something I could do on my end to make my photos more appealing or acceptable. Might be something simple that I'm doing wrong.

Sharp, not duplicating existing photos, good lighting and exposure, shot composition, not wider than 700 pixels... those are what I look for.

When uploading a photo, I get something like this:

I'm using a mac OS X, any ideas?

Slow connection. If it times out, for some reason something along your connection is slowing you down.
