CP Trip Report 8/26 8/27

Associated parks:
None

Well I have been laying in wait for 3 years for this trip and it finally happened. I stayed on the Comfort Inn on Rt. 250, pretty easy to get to the park from Cincinnati if you ask me. Anyways, I arrived about 2 on Sunday and the park closed at 8, that's ok though. I got there at 10 Monday and left at 8 than too. This park is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. There were clear skys both days and now one spot of rain. Anyways onto rides.

Wicked Twister 5 rides, 2 back seat, 2 3-1, 3-2

Well I thought this would be good going in, but it was truly awesome in the backseat. The ride was pretty close to the top in the front and back spikes, not totally up, but I'd guess that's full power from what I read. Anyways it was great and a good idea for the park. The longest I waited was 20 mins.

9/10- Number 2 steel.

Gemini 3 rides 1 blue 2 red.

This was probably one of the biggest suprises at the park. I didn't hear much about it, I got alot of air on both trains and my side won every time. Very awesome headchopper on the one hill. Walk on every ride.

8/10- Great racer.

Cedar Creek Mine Ride 2 rides

This ride stinks and it hurt my grandpa's back and elbow. It's pretty dull and boring and I didn't like it, I rode it twice just to see if a second chance would be better. Walk ons

3/10 painful dull boring

Woodstock Express 1 ride

Just wanted to give it a ride and it wasn't to bad. It's got some speed and a good layout, great ride for the kids. 5 minute wait.

5/10 It's a kiddy ride

Power Tower Space Shot=2 Drop-1

I really liked being shot up as opposed to being dropped down. The shot side was amazing and the drop side was decent. Being shot up is just a different sensation and should not be missed for a 15 min wait. The drop side was fun being yanked down, but for a 45 min wait I was a lil dissappointed. The line was so long due to only one side running at the time.

Shot-9/10 drop 7/10

Witches Wheel- 2 spins.

Brings back the memories of Skylab at PKI it's a good spin ride and should not be missed if spinning doesn't bother you. I didn't know this was here so I was really suprised. Walk on rides

6/10 One of my favorite flats.

Magnum XL-200- 2 rides 1-3 back seat

I had to ride this in the ejector seat to see how it was it was alot better than I thought it would be with alot of air in the bunny hills. The back provided lots of air, but my grandpa could only brave that once. 5-10 train waits.

9/10 Wow is it me or is ejector air awesome.

Raptor- 2 rides 1-2, back seat

Well the helixes made my grandpa sick to his stomach, so I had to go alone the second time. The barrel roll/ zero G roll got my stomach both times and was definitely the best part of the ride. I just think that this ride was truly amazing, with a couple spots of headbanging in the Cobra Roll. Both waits 15 mins.

9/10 Great ride here short line.

Blue Streak 1 ride, second to last row.

Wow I was amazed, provides a lot of airtime on the small little hills, I would have liked to get a couple more laps, but that's ok. My grandpa wouldn't ride this as his stomach was still upset from Raptor.

7/10 Only good wood in the park.

Mean Streak 1 ride last 3 rows

I was inline for the second to last row, but the train was roped off so I moved up one. This ride is horrible. It's not really painful at all, a lil rough, but it's just boring. All of these spots where good air would be are killed by the slow speed. Glad I didn't wait more than one train

1/10- Worst woodie ever

Wildcat- 1 ride front row

Wildcat was another suprise, it was really kinda fast, and the helixes were great, god bless Schwarzkompf and he had alot of good ideas. I just wish that my grandpa would have rode with me. 5 minute wait.

7/10- Good ride

Chaos- 1 ride

This ride looked so cool, but wasn't that great, the spins weren't good because I couldn't get them to go right, it was ok, but less than I expected.

6/10 Should have been much better.

Dispatch Master Transport "Disaster Transport" 2 rides 1 front 1 back.

I'm suprised no one talks highly of this ride. It's great, not the best, but up there. It's totally unique and something you won't get any where else. I loved the theming. Monday the theming wasn't working through the queue, they had the queue starting in the (Loss of name) Bay. The line was about 15 sunday and 5 monday.

7/10- Fun ride good speed.

Demon Drop- 3 drops

Wow this ride is sweet. The lift is so fast and I finally know how everything works. The line was 10 mins all times.

8/10 Yep definitely awesome.

Mantis 1 ride back row

Pain pain pain pain pain, the drop had a little air it seemed before the brake. My head was banged several times and I left the ride with a headache, my thighs back and my "cajunes" hurt a lil and I said NEVER EVER again. 15 minute wait

1/10 Horrible horrible horrible.

Corkscrew 1 ride 1-1

Fun little ride not painful at all, got a little air too. 2 train wait. Had to do this one alone.

6/10 I was suprised here.

Iron Dragon 1 ride last row

Fun ride here too. Arrow did this well and the lake dive was definitely cool, not intense at all, great for my grandpa. No line.

6/10 I was very suprised.

Millenium Force- 3 rides 9-1 9-2 3-1 One of each train.

Wow is all I can say. I held out on this till the second to last ride of the day on Sunday and I was glad I did, the more I waited the more anticipation built and it was awesome for sure. This is easily my #2 ride and #1 steel. I got tons of air in every seat and was worth the 2 45 min waits and the 20 min wait for Freeway.

10/10 Easily the best ride in the park.

All in all I had an awesome time, don't think it could have gone any better. Also for food Macaroni's three little pigs pizza can't be beat!

Too bad you didn't get Millennium Force in the front. Glad you like CP.

You really should try Mantis in the front. I think you'll find it to be a different ride. But the crotch rod is still there. Mantis was a much better ride the first year it opened, before they installed the brakes on the drop

Oh ya I forgot I did Paddlewheel Excursions too, it was fun with a lot of Hokey Jokes.

Great TR! Sounds like you had a good time.

I also went to CP on Mon. the 26th and Tues. the 27th. I was disappointed though because I've heard about the last week in Aug. being "dead week" at CP. It was definitely
NOT dead week. MF's wait on Monday was 1 hour and 1/4. Even Mean Streak had a 1/2 hour wait. I went to CP on the 4th of July and the park was insanely crowded but Mean Streak was a walk on. I don't know why the last week in Aug. is called dead week by some people but it was crowded.

Anyway, even though I was expecting way less people at the park I still had a great time!

I was there last year during "dead week" and the place was practically empty. You could have shot a cannon through the main midway and not hit a soul. Then again your idea of busy and my idea of busy may be different. I compare everything to Great America's crowds. A half hour wait for anything for me is a godsend.

It's nice to see someone else who enjoys the little "gems" in the park. I agree completely with your opinion of Mantis and only partially with Mean Streak. But you didn't like Mine Ride? It's great!
Good TR, Whats your # 1 ride?

Im the #1 Canobie Lake Park Fan!!!These are my top 3 coasters:
1. S:RoS @ SFNE 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Cyclone/B:TDK

Great tr. Glad to see that your Grampa still likes coasters. Did he try MF? I love Chaos, you and your partner need to rock the car. Once you get it rocking good, it spins like crazy and you look like your going to hit the arm or crash into the ground. Try rocking it next time.

Sorry you did not like Mantis. I have never experienced the head banging that everyone talks about.

I hope they do something with Mean Streak. It has so much potential. It was a big investment and there is never much of a line.

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.

Roxy21-

I was up at CP on Monday at last night. AND believe me I would definetly say it was dead. More or less so Tues Night. MForce was pratically the only wait in the park. I rode MStreak 3 times all walk ons. and Wicked Twister was a walk on the 12 times I rode it on Monday? It might have been just the path you took? CP usually has VERY predictable crowd flows. I do admit though I'm lucky. I hit MForce in the morning (before General Public) with my Joe Cool. I ride that 2 or 3 times and then head up and hit Raptor. I then can hit all the other rides while the crowd is all booking it to Raptor or MForce. When the crowd is at the back of the park hit the front. In all the last few days have been GREAT at the CP :) Glad to hear everyone had a good time!

Yes, my grandpa rode Millie with me. He was worried it would be rough, that's why he missed a few rides. I told him it was as smooth as glass and it was. I was trying to get my partner on Chaos to work with me, but I didn't know him and he was a little kid. Cedar Point may have been crowded to you, but on my two days it was definitely empty in my eyes. I really thought I would like Mantis I liked Chang at SFKK 3 years ago so I figured I would like it. Mean Streak had an insane amount of potential. The layout and all, but the brakes kill all that this ride SHOULD offer. Mine Ride was ok I guess, but it wasn't anything that excited me, I did like the dive into the creek/lake, but my grandpa hurt his back there. I would just like to give them two thumbs up, I think Cedar Point and PKI are about even in overall experience though. PKI has excellent wood and Cedar point has excellent steel. Each have flats to round it out and have great food. If your in Ohio you have to stop at these two parks!

You need to try Iron Dragon from the front seat. Different ride, and it's great coming into the station (LOTS of swing!)

I totally agree with you on the Mantis. Never again.

As for Mean Streak... some times I agree with you, others it's suprisingly fun. I've never ridden a more "variable" coaster. Everything from boring to kinda-fun. I dunno what the secret is... though I usually ride towards the front.

I like the last helix of the mine ride, but most of the rest is kinda painful, because I have long legs and there's just zero leg room. I always ride it once though. It's not THAT bad.

i was there sun, mon and tues.
i was wearing, kumba, superman ROS and montu shirts. did you see me by any chance?

i was very sisapointed with the park.

Yes FireDragonLord, we are well aware that you were "sisapointed" with the park. (as most of us read in your TR)

1.Fire Dragon 2.Raptor 3.Ice Dragon 4.Batman Knight Flight 5.Kraken

Glad you liked Cedar Point, but are you sure you liked Mine Ride more than Mantis? even Mean Streak is better than the MR.

I'm a sucker for the mine rides, so I always rank them highly.....but I too find Mantis nearly unrideable at this point....yet it still gets BIG waits....go figure....

Glad you had a good time....I really like seeing the generations mixing, it's part of what really makes a park for me.....and hanging out wit the "older crowd" has certainly opened my eyes to many new perspectives....

Mantis's wait is long only due to the fact that Millenium Force is nearby. If everyone remembers back in 98, and 99, it was rare to see a line past the bridge on a weekday.
rollergator's avatar

MFM, I dunno....I used to hold to the theory that lines will "balance out" so that coasters in close proximity will have lines of similar length....I still think there's some validity there....but after seeing lines of 2-1/2 hours for SFMM's Deja Vu and Psyclone right next to it as a walk-on, I thik the GP is able to distinguish between rides to some degree....

not that I'm claiming that Mantis is THAT bad (heck, nothing else on Earth is Psyclone-bad)....but I think that the stand-up at CP is the most overrated of their coasters.....now that Mantis has so seriously deteriorated....I DO remember when Mantis was worth the equivalent wait for Raptor....not any more....

gator, IMO ALL standups are overrated. As for Mantis, I'd take it anyday over "the original overrated stand-up" - SFGAm's Iron Wolf.

Ye-ouch!
