CP Railroad

Chuck : Sorry. You and I usually agree on most points in our various posts, but I think your information is faulty here, or maybe we're just miscommunicating.

l. WOF's engine was built for park use and was never used anywhere else. It is not 85 years old. Unless they've got an engine I don't know about, which is of course quite possible.

2. Disney World brought its engines up from Mexico and spent a small fortune restoring them. They were real railroad engines.

3. I never even thought about Dollywood. You're right.

4. PKI's engines were built in Pittsburgh specifically for PKI but they were built at a locomotive works. Ironically, they were built almost within sight of Kennywood.
More things to correct. Maud L was not from Enterprise Plantation, but from the Laurel Valley Plantation, and for that matter the Disneyland #3 "Fred Gurley" came from one of the Godchaux Plantations. Crown Metal Products erection shop was actually in Elizabeth, PA., While it overlooked the Mon, it is fair distance south and upstream from Kennywood.

Ok.

They have alott of information on Steam Locomotive locations at www.steamlocomotive.com

It makes me wonder why Kings Island still has its railroad. Seems like they would of got rid of it by now.

Carowinds had 2 locomotives, the "Melodia" which was from a Plantation and was built by Davenport, and a Blue Crown Metal Locomotive. If anybody knows where I can find any information on these please speak up.

Dukeis #1, the parktrains site (http://www.trainweb.org/parktrains) has very in-depth information on the carowinds engines. Go to Historyville and then click on Crown Metals, then Big Crowns, then Late Crown Engines, scroll down until you see the Carowinds info. Also, the website "Carowinds: The Early Years" has pics of both locos. Sorry, I dont know the URL. Hope this helps.

Actually the Melodia was built by H.K.Porter of Pittsburgh as a 0-6-2T. Carowinds was in a hurry, and Crown rebuilt it into a 2-6-2 tender locomotive with a new boiler. It along with a standard Crown 4-4-0 American provided the motive power for the short lived Carowinds RR. We believe that it wound up in the private collection of George Roose in the Cleveland area. Yes, George Roose of Cedar Point fame. After his passing it has passed through several hands and now is in California. It has been returned to it's original configuration of a 0-6-2T.
Alls I gots to say is, youse guys sure know lots about trains ...

Dukewas#1 : Why do you think PKI should get rid of its railroad ?

Dutchman : Are you from the valley ? Usually only locals know the geography that well.

Read the entire thing. I said "Its seems like PKI should of got rid of there railroad by now"

The reason I said that was because Paramount does not like trains. KD got rid of there railroad during the Paramount era, so did PGA. I just said its funny why Paramount has not trashed the KI&MV RR yet.

Sorry if I P.Oed anyone.

If everyone knows so much about the CP railroad, maybe someone can answer my question. What are the dimensions of a railroad car on the CP railroad? My friend is making something for Train Simulator and wants the specs. I know the quesiton is kinda weird, but maybe somebody who worked there could tell me. Thanks.

Carowinds #2 the Crown 4-4-0 was sold to an individual in Vermont after the Carowinds & Carolina was dismantled. It was later sold and sent to Shop Services in Mt. Pleasant IA for a complete overhaul. It left there with a new number (#1), a new name (Katherine) lettered for the Neverland Valley Railroad. It is now the property of Michael Jackson.

Guess it will be under new ownership again soon. Everybody says Micheal Jackson dew to finacial problems is selling off the amusement portion of Neverland.
