The ride isn't going anywhere, its staying put. If they were going to remove it, they would have removed it when they moved the track about 10 feet over to make room for Millennium Force. If they do decide that the operation is too expensive, I am sure they wont get rid of the ride, but instead get different trains of some sort. Probably the fake steam trains, but I suppose I would rather have the fake steam trains than no train at all.
I am going to end this post with this-Be happy with what you got and enjoy it while it lasts, it wont be around forever.

Cedar Point vs. SFMM-like 15 isnt enough?
No, the railroad will not be removed at SFGAm, but won't be open for Fright Fest as the Halloween Themed B.O.O. Line, because track has to be removed to accomidate the Whizzer removal. There was a hint that the Crown Steam Locomotive from SFStL (see above) was coming to SFGAm, but thats just a rumor.
Yeah that fake whistle is compressed air going through an all too small whistle, and the steam effect only works when the temp is below 65 degrees (yes, the engine has a boiler, but only for the effect)

Everybody seems to be forgetting that both Dollywood and Silver Dollar City both have railroads with operating steam locomotives.
Dollywoods Locomotives are from the White Pass and Yukon and were built in 1938-1943. The locomotives are 2-8-2's and weigh 80 and 110 tons. They are a little big for a theme park, but they put on a good show hauling 7 and 8 car trains up Dollywood's 5% grades.

The CP & LE Railroad is a Cedar Point classic. That's my favorite way to rest in between coaster rides at the park.
I saw on television where at least one of the locomotives was used on a plantation. They were showing "Myron H." at the time but I have no idea if this is the one in question. The locomotives are kept in pristine order (which is more than you can say for the paint jobs on two of the more centrally-located coasters at the park).
The railroad has become less "secluded" in recent years with the addition of Mantis, Snake River Falls, and MF. There's an fenced-off section of open air storage right before you hit the Mantis area that's a real eyesore. They need to try to hide that a little better.
And I don't care what anyone else says, I still think the skeletons are cool. Those air rifles still scare the crap out of me, just like the skeleton figures did when I was a kid.

Thats sad. They have 6 locomotives I understand. They should atleast operate 3.
I'd like to see Albert back in operation. Its the largest they have, and it was one of the 2 original Locomotives.

Here's that latest that I know of the CP&LE locomotive roster.
Maude L -Baldwin Forney 2-4-4T- traded to Disney for an oil burning Davenport 2-4-4T.
Jenny K-Porter 2-4-0 stored inoperable (boiler problems?)
Albert- Davenport 2-6-0 displayed on Frontier Trail. Reputed to need extensive frame work.
George R (formerly the Victoria) Porter 2-4-0 in service.
Judy K- Vulcan 2-4-0 in service.
Myron H. Vulcan 2-4-0 in service.
As we can see, there are currently only three locomotives active. The former Disney engine is waiting to be converted back to coal. The fate of Jenny K and Albert are up in the air at this time.
Thirty years ago the CP&LE was not only a ride, but the major way that people got from the main midway down to Frontiertown. It was a transportation system. We ran three trains, each with the capacity of 400 passengers, on about five minute headways. As fast as we could unload, then load we were off. For many years it had the highest rph figures in the park. I imagine it's still up there, but they run only one or two trains now. With the scaled back operations they feel that they don't need as many active locomotives.
Thanks for the info.
When your riding the Wildcat, if you look behind the shop you can see a locomotive that looks rusty. My guess is that this is the Jennie K.
Wow, 3 train operation! I bet that was a very big hassel. I can imagine 3 trains on that little track. You must of had to move fast.

Wow. Pretty sad to hear about the Jennie K. and Albert. They really need to work on at least one of those and get it operating again. I remember when the Jennie K. ran a few years back....
Is that new Davenport 2-4-4t going to be returned to service at the Point after it is converted to coal burning?
That would be cool to have at least four, maybe five, of the six locomotives in a good operable status.

Off to CP in August, Hopefully off to two other parks in July though!! YEA!!!! :-D It will be a good summer!
Questions:

The ex-Disney loco is operable, it just burns high distilate fuel oil (jet fuel) which isn't cheap. Appalachain coal is a whole lot cheaper to burn, and plentiful. I would hazard a guess that firing up this loco would cost more to light off than two coal burners.

Uhm I gotta comment on somebodys post above about CP obviously uninformed post above about CP and Disney being the only parks using locomotives not made for park service.
WOF has a train that is 85 years old and operated in freight and passenger service. It is converted to Propane but still a live orriginal steamer.
Dollywood has several ex Alaskan Railroad Steamers.
Silverwoods steamer is real.
Disneys railroad was built for the park period, The design was based on Ward Kimballs backyard railroad engines the Emma Nevada and Chole. Walt even went so far as to make sure that Disney always ran STEAM.
There are several other parks that have engines that have been converted to propane, The fact that PKI's and other parks have been built that way make them no less REAL.

Disneyland has 2 built for park locomotives (#1 & #2) and # 3, #4, and #5 where all built for plantation use around the turn of the century.
Dollywood has 4 locomotives. #70, #71, #192, #107. #107 is standard gauge, so they cannot operate it. #71 is in storage, and both #192 and #70 can be used, but the park rotates them on a yearly basis. The locomotives are 2-8-2's, and came from the White Pass and Yukon. #192 weighs 80 tons, Both 70 and 71 weigh 110 tons. (a little big for a theme park)
Silver Dollar City in Branson also has 3 or 4 German Built locomotives that are full scale, but were built in Germany around 1962.
