CP or PKI?

I'm trying to begin planning for a trip to Ohio next summer.  Last year I went to SFWoA, I've never been to PKI, and the last time I was at CP was 5 years ago.  I can't decide which to do... Cedar Point or King's Island?

The idea of going to a new park is tempting, but the prospect of riding Millenium Force seeks to dissuade me from that.  Recommendations?

CP hands down so many different coasters, buty PKI is still great.
Personally, I'd wait to see what Cedar Point announces. That's a tough question because you haven't ridden Power Tower, MF, and whatever they get next year. You've never been to PKI, and they have around 13-14 coasters as well.

I'd say see what Cedar Point gets, and play it by ear. If you make a trip to an Ohio park every year, maybe you should let the hype of what CP gets die down and head to PKI. Then head to CP the next year. The final call is yours, but I hope I helped...:)

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

Why not go to both? Maybe a 4 hour drive between the two. I think its worth the 4 hours.
I love PKI but CP is better when yo break it down.

CP-Raptor, MF, Magnum, Mantis

PKI-Beast, SOB, FoF

-----------------
Montu, God Of Coasters

Raging Bull, Don't Fight It, Ride It

CP is the place to go! PKI can wait another year.

I may be from IL, but i sure can't get enough of the FORCE. MF!!!
I have to say Cedar Point also.  PKI is nice, but CP is more fun.
Not even close in my opinion. CP all the way. I live 30 minutes from PKI and only go once a year. And only with free tickets at that. I travel 4 hours to CP 4-6 times a season. PKI looks good on paper but once you are there it just doesn't compare.
Since you've never been to PKI I would say go there. I would not turn down rides on the Beast, FOF and SOB for MF.

But who know what CP will get in 2002.

On one hand if you go to PKI you will be able to ride lots of coasters you have never ridden. On the other hand you can ride Millennium Force...Cedar Point.

Go to both. You shouldn't have to make such choices in life.

Jeff is right. Why not do both. Each has its own good points and qualities. Can't go wrong with either.
I had a similar decision to make this year.  I haven't been to CP since MF has been built.  But I hadn't been to PKI since before they added FO, SOB, RRR, and the drop tower.  So I decided to go to PKI this year and wait until next year to hit CP.  I would ask you this though, what do you prefer, steel or wood?  If you love the woodies, definately go to PKI.  If you don't like coasters that knock you around a bit, then hit PKI and don't ride Meanstreak.
WARNING Pet Peeve Rant ahead:
Look, the cat asked one or the other, and here come a bunch of folks saying do both, do both. Well gee, what a cop out answer! For whatever reason cat asked either OR not BOTH. Either answer the original question, or just leave it alone.

Anyway, if it were me, when faced with two evils, I always choose the evil I've never tried before. In your case this will be PKI. Millie is cool and all, but compared to Sonny, FoF, Poppa, Vortex, Drop Zone, and the whole themeing things, it's just not enough.

you left out:
CP-Meanstreak, iron dragon, bluesteak, corker
PKI-Vortex, Racer, and next year, tomb raider

living in Columbus, Ohio i'm right in the middle of Kings Island and Cedar Point and being that there is only a four hour drive at most between both parks...  Go for it...  In all honesty if you have a weekend to spare you could hit SFWOA, CP and PKI and call it a package deal... it would be worth  the adventure...  In regards to choosing I went to all three this summer and I don't think you should base your decision off of everyone's opinions... CP rocked in the several hours I was there I rode every major coaster except 2, PT and the water rides... MF is ALL THAT!   PKI rocked because I've always been a fan and the memory of my friends first experience riding the BEAST and the tears run down their eyes is like one of those mastercard commericals: Priceless.  SOB, FOF and the environment is wonderful... SFWOA was okay just not enough space seemed to congested...  But all in all I'm happy Ohio has 3 major parks with great rides...
If you do have to choose these are my opinions, living in columbus also:

CP is kept cleaner, security guards in busy coaster line queues, overall better operations.

Theming:  both parks are poor, CP has none except frontier area, Paramount has eroded most of the original theming at KI.  KI is still prettier park, CP has a lot of very old, outdated buildings.

Flat rides:  over the last 20 years, CP has maintained almost all of theirs, while KI has removed almost all of theirs.  KI only has 7 left.

coasters:

wood:  KI--Beast is excellent, SOB is rough but excellent, Racer is good but does not race.

CP--Mean Streak is medicore but pretty, Blue Streak is ok but small.

Steel:  CP has big steel:  Mill Force, Magnum, 2 b and m's Raptor inverted and Mantis Standup, small arrow Corkscrew.  Very good racing super mine train Gemini which actually races.

KI has excellent launched Flight of Fear which CP has nothing similar, ok multi looping Vortex arrow coaster, poor Vekoma invertigo.

Both parks have arrow suspended.  KI's is faster, but CP's is longer.  Both have mine trains.  KI's is rougher.  CP's is pleasant ride.  CP has very nice Schwarzkopf Wildcat and an ok enclosed intamin bobsled.  KI has nice jr wooden coaster.

Both are priced the same, CP you can spend more than one day at if you like to do everything,  KI is definitely a one day park.

2Hostyl is right: if you've been to Cedar Point and not Kings Island, go to the Island. The Beast alone would make it worth your while. Add in Flight into Fear and the Racer (backwards!) and a visit to Kings Island will make you very happy. Plus, you'll have Tomb Raider waiting for you, whatever it is.

Super7, when you say CP has old, outdated buildings, do you mean buildings like the Coliseum? Part of Cedar Point's charm to me has always been the jumbled architecture of the place, stately old buildings like the Coliseum, side by side with exuberant kitschy amusement park architecture like *sniff* dearly departed Fascination.

Well, if you've never been to Kings Island, I would recommend going just to say you have went.

Dayuum, Your HOT!
I live in Florida and went to both last week. I had never been to either before. PKI disappointed me in the way the park was run and maintained. The coasters were good, though. CP impressed me in every way and the ride ops make the place more fun to visit. First class all the way.

I live in Florida and my home park is IOA so I know what an awesome park looks like and how it should be run. I have no problem with the PKI coasters and many were very good but the experience of being at CP was so much better.

I don't get caught in all the hype about parks in this forum but I can tell you from my unbiased experiences that now I know why people rave about CP so much. It's an awesome park. For me, right behind IOA. IOA is a theme park and I think blows away everything else as far as total experience goes. But that's another topic. Check my trip reports on PKI and CP. Have fun!!
