CP needs more woodies

I was looking up some info about CP and first off it is obvious they have a lack of woodies. Also I got an e mail form Thrillerman(i think that was the CB sn) and he is a wooden coaster enthusiest and he was upset that Cp doesn't have veay many woodies. I've never ridden on Blue Streak, but Gemini is great. Mean Streak isn't very good, so it's pretty much a toss up with woodies there. I think they need more and Mean Streak should disappear. i want to know what you other enthusiests think?

Mike

well for one thing, Gemini's not a woodie. it has tubular steel track, which is what matters.

but you're right, CP doesn't have a single good woody. blue streak is the closest thing, and it's just ok. PKD, on the other hand, has rebel yell (backwards), grizzly, scooby doo, and hurler, which all pretty much beat blue streak (and kick the crap out of boring old mean streak)

I know they lack woodies but I don't see why so many people don't like Mean Streak. If you know how to ride it, it is actually a pretty good coaster. All you have to make sure to do it get closer to the front then the back and don't lay against the seat.
Well pez i just went and checked and your right about Gemini. I don't know why i missed seeing that when i was there. I guess I was having too much fun to notice. And colin you might be right but i rode mean streak in the front middle and it was seriously painful.

Bid my blood to run, before I come undone...

It's strange that 3 of the "top" amusement parks (CP, SFMM, SFGAdv) lack truly great woodies IMO. So, maybe they don't "need" them from a popularity standpoint of those parks.

Expanding on Danny's point, none of the Top 10 most attended parks have wooden coasters; only one of the parks ranked #11-14 has more than one woodie [CP], and it's not until you get to #18 [Santa Cruz] that you find a woodie that is, for the most part, historically significant and generally well-liked by enthusiasts.

Any park looking at this list would come to two conclusions:

1] I don't need a wooden coaster to get people thru the gate, and

2] Family rides *do* get people thru the gate.

Will Cedar Point get another wooden coaster? Probably someday, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

It's harder for a big park to market a wooden coaster as anything amazing (there are exceptions, Hershey for example), whereas at a little park, it's amazing that they get a coaster at all.

I think CP could build something similar to Shivering Timbers. Construct the station at the south end of DT and run the (out-and-back) circuit between the west side of the shore line and the east side of the main parking lot.

I don't think they should build anymore woodies until they get Mean Suck running better.

Blue Streak, however, is running fantastic.

Danny, you can add PKI to the list of top parks with no good woodies as well.

BS is far superior to any of their overbraked rough crap. ;)

Brent, you take that back or I'll never let you ride Beastie again....;)
" I think they need more and Mean Streak should disappear."

How defeatist.

What do I Listen-To?
I am stereotypical.

Isn't there anymore people that like the thrill of a good woodie. I mean woodies don't break records anymore(except SoB), but sometimes woodies can be funner than steel coasters.
Yeah, what Bill said. I also won't allow you in the 1/3 of the train of SOB that delivers a great ride, Brent. ;)

Now, I won't stick up for The Beast, but I know loads of others that love that silly coaster for some reason... even if it is decent at night and features a disturbingly intense helix at the end. For fans though, the only thing wilder than The Beast at night is The Beast in rain! You will get drenched. You may get drowned, lol.

The backwards Racer has been *dreamy* this year with plenty of airtime all over the place. Forwards is still pretty mediocre and rough in spots. It is significant since it has been called the coaster which brought back the current age of rapid coaster-building or something along those lines. :)

Mike E., we do enjoy woodies, in fact more so then steelies most of the time.

It's just the crappy ones we don't like.

And Danny, you know I am messing. Unfortunately a coaster that is only bearable in 1/3 of the seats is not what I would call good. The beast is great, and I love the helix, but man can they kill it anymore? Beastie is the worst of all the Allen Jr. Woodies, why is it none of the others have trims? Racer just down right sucks which leaves us with Recar which is a great ride, but no better then Blue Streak.

I enjoy blue Streak more then any of the woodies at PKI.

Brent, I know and I love Blue Streak because it contrasts so well with the rough and boring Mean Streak. The illusion that it's so great compared to MS is what makes it a high note of CP (along with Cedar Downs and Disaster Transport). But Gemini is still the best "wooden" coaster in the park... like The Villain is potentially the best "steelie" at SFWOA. ;)

-Danny, likes to confuse the kiddies... Beastie!

Cornball Express is the best steel coaster in the world. As for wood I have to give the nod to SFGADV's Runaway Mine Train.
