Contributions?

What do you need/ want for contributions (to follow up on an earlier post) on defunct coasters, non-listed coasters, non-listed parks? I don't know a lot, but I do have some info on certain old rides, etc. I don't speak Spanish, so I can't get any Saury info (I tried).

All I want is as many stats as you can give, but namely its birth and death dates. I really don't want to add moved rides, because they're not really gone.

I don't know... the track record thing is one of my favorite features of the site, but a lot of people get so hot because a dead ride isn't in there and they want to up their cound. ;)

Defunct ride: Pippin, Kennywood Park. Built by John A. Miller in 1924. It was a ravine coaster. It originally opened with Dayton Fun House trains. In the winter of 1967-68, it was partially demolished, but the ravine part (bottom part) was rebuilt by Andy Vettel into the Thunderbolt.

Defunct ride: Little Dipper, Kennywood Park. It was originally built in 1948. It was a junior coaster designed and built by Andy Vettel. In 1950 it was redesigned and lengthened by 440 feet to give it a more "grown up" ride. It was taken out in 1984 (last season of operation) to make way for Raging Rapids.

Defunct ride: Jumbo Jets, Cedar Point. This Schwarztkopf (sp?) portable was purchased in 1970. It was located by the Space Spiral on the beach side. We believe it was gone by the 1980's but don't have an exact date.

If I can find out anything else, I will let you know.
The thing with these rides that are no longer at the parks that you mention could possibly be at another park under another name. Your best bet would be to visit rcdb.com to find out if they were purchased by another park. If they were than they are not considered defunct.

Correction to Jumbo Jet (from rcdb.com) -- first operated 1972 (the Cedar Point book we have says bought in 1970 -- did it sit around for two years? Which one is right?). rcdb.com does not have a date for close of operations, but says it is no longer in operation.
For Chitown: I checked rcdb.com and got no indication that any of these three were moved. HOWEVER, there is a post on General Buzz (where I asked for info) that it is Mexico, so apparently it was. If this is on rcdb.com, what did I miss or do wrong? *** This post was edited by Merri Sedai on 8/28/2000. ***
Okay, here's my problem with the "moved" coasters thing. Let's say I rode Jumbo Jet at Cedar Point in 1974 (I didn't, but let's say I did). Let's also say it was sold and moved to Mexico (as someone just told me). What do I put in my trip report? I couldn't list JJ at CP because it's not on there. I hate to list the ride in Mexico because I've never been there -- and it may have changed in the move. This is why I would vote for a "moved" (from or to) or "moved and renamed" (if it was) category. *** This post was edited by Merri Sedai on 8/28/2000. ***
Jeff, if could be done easily.

Would it make sense to list defunct rides as a whole different list, linked or not linked, just so we can have a list of old rides that we can refer to for curiousity.
What about something where you could add the park it was in yourself, like say you find the Mayan Mindbender at Six Flags Astroland, but can change it to the Nightmare at the now defunct Boblo Island (where and what it used to be)? Of course this would all be done on the honor system, but most people are smart enough to figure out if a coaster was at a certain park or not...

Merri, this is just coaster riding so we dont need to get that technical about it. If their is a coaster that you have ridden that is not at the park where you rode it anymore than just use the new name and park where it was relocated for your track record. Most of us on here have done that. If it is actually defunct than give as much information to Jeff as possible and he will most likely add it.

Dear Chi: ::sigh:: I'm sure you are right. It just doesn't feel ethical or something.
