Construction at PKD and Hypersonic

I was at PKD this morning and I decided I'd check out Hypersonic and ride a few rides.

1) Hypersonic has some new restraints that sort of restrain your shoulders also. I don't know if this helps picture them, but it's similar to the use of an over the shoulder harness, just it lacks the harness holding you vertically, just horizontally.

2) I walked by the Scrambler and it said "This Ride Is Closed For Today". Well, at first I thought they were fixing something since they had some trucks, wood, and employees around. But ... when I came back around 12:30 or 1:00 PM, they had built a large orange wall surrounding the ride area on all sides.

I went and tried to look through, and succeeded. All of the cars were dismantled on the Scrambler and they were taking down the exterior of the ride, including the railings on the station ramp. From close examination, that wall did not look like a temporary fix at all, so could there be a big new ride there next season? The area that was closed off looked big enough for a drop tower to me. Could it happen?

It doesn't surprise me that PKD has removed yet another flat ride.

So that's why the Scrambler was closed last Friday. Things that make you go hmmmmmm....

I'm pretty confident that scrambler will be history, when I heard of a wall going up around the ride I knew from experience at SFA with sky escaper that it looks like PKD's scrambler is not long for this world.

My prediction is to look for a nice shiny new drop ride in that spot,me thinks a possible acrophobia clone maybe.

I called PKD yesterday ,just to find out what rides will be closed, (that was before this topic was posted), and the lady said the scrambler was closed for the season to make way for a new ride, so thats cool.I think defintaly a dropzone type ride or at least the same name since the other one is at a paramounts park.

yup

i work there. they closed scrambler last sunday and will reopen it in 2003 in new location. they are doing alot of construction in that area for a new ride. what it is is unknown still, but people are probably right in guessing a drop tower.

And personally, i dotn see Hypersonic opening now. that ride was just a piss poor design and its a fu cking hassle to deal with

deffinately A drop tower, hypersonic was cheated, by my opinion, first off, if you compare it to the real TA2K they cut the actually 90 drop, there is hardley any 90 degree drop, the real design drops 90 degrees all the way to the ground, HEY "THE YETI" you work there right, tell them we want more out of hypersonic, they need to just give what it actually is supposed to be known for, a real 90 degree drop and a long enough ride, you we can call it an ejoyable roller coaster, I mean the ride is over before you can type enjoyable roller coaster, but thats just my opinion, but the experience pays off for those flaws. But hey..........

PKD we want a GIGA, please give us a GIG***

Yes, Hypersonic *should* open on the 20th, and I'm hoping it's true. Also, yes, the Scrambler will re-open in 2003 somewhere else in the park.
yep PKD is getting a free fall where the scrambler was. The sccrambler will open somewhere else in the park.

New restraints? Is this some kind of new gadget to keep riders hands down or is it really a new restraint?

That actually makes sense to move the scrambler, refurbish it, and re-install it in a area with less traffic, as they prepare the main back midway for a new ride. Sounds good to me.

Now just where would they put the Scrambler now...... It used to be right of the Main International Street midway, directly acrosss from the Looping Ship

They're not exactly restraints, but headrests/shoulder rests, from the looks of it. Now, I was about 50 feet away looking at them, so I could be wrong.

Also, Hypersonic is OPEN! I just talked to my friend on a cell phone who is up there and he said right now the sign at the front of the park that normally says the ride is closed was not up, and they were forming a huge line already on International Street to go back to where Hypersonic is! I'll be going tomorrow! (Also, on PKD.com it doesn't have the "it's closed" stuff)

Yeti, remember the TOS? Re-read your post and see if you can guess what part you skipped over.

You're right, there is no "testing" mentioned on the website anymore, so it probably is open. I'm going in a month, this would be good timing.

Are you sure it would be a drop tower and not one of the Chance..... I forgot what they are called but one like Delirium at PGA? That would fit is the space described and I like it even more than a drop tower.

~Santa Cruz Trip Report just added with lots of pix!

I so saw this tower ride comming, for anyone who is riding the Anaconda, look of to the left, your see a huge black tower looking object, I was so think that, that large black pole I saw was the tower, COULD IT BE, next time you go look over there and see it for yourself.
I hope we get something like Acrophobi***

Oh yeah, another capacity nightmare for PKD...just what they needed.

Happy Coastering!

"Have fun stormin' the castle!"

Acrophobia is ,after all intamin's latest addition to it's free fall family and PKD has been known to install some of the latest in thrill rides so if it is indeed a free fall tower that's going in then my money is on it being an acrophobia clone,I've heard that it will approach nearly 400 ft in height.

Whatever it is we'll all find out in 2003.

I completely agree. I'm located in a pretty strategic location for amusement parks, and out of the bunch PKD is the last park I feel enthused to visit. I mean, how many times can you ride Rebel Yell and FOF? Anaconda is a head-bashing nightmare, Hypersonic lasts maybe 2 seconds? and they've just tamed it even more??, Hurler is utterly boring, Volcano is ugly and short, and they completely took away from Grizzly's charm once they chopped down all of the tree coverage around the coaster - now it's just a basic out and back woodie. That leaves a wild mouse? They really do need something to raise the thrill level in that park.
