Confirmed off-season work at CF/SF parks

Both of the mentioned Mich Adv woodies were worked on quite a bit last off season. It wouldn't suprise me that they would be thinking about doing some more work on them, as they each have spots that could some additional work; however, I have not seen any such work take place yet. And for those of you who have been wondering, the infamous off season reports should begin this week with photos I took there just yesterday.

And don't freak about trim brakes; yes...it was a wide-spread rumor among the crew this season, but I doubt it will happen. Kinzel promised that he wouldn't mess with it like that when CF acquired the park in '01. Also, how often was there a wait with two train? Hardly ever. There just isn't a need for three trains.

Hey Kara, when's our first O-STR?

I still say Timbers will get trims. Remember, Kinzel also told us we'd get our hyper in 2002. Did we get that? no. ;)

-----------------

Ummm....no. Kinzel, nor any other CF management, ever said anything about a hyper. Unlike the rumors about a hyper, CF actually said they wouldn't brake Timbers when they spoke at TFest '01. Am I the only one who remembers this? :)

Trims? How could you say such a thing.

Wolverine Wildcat needs some attention. The section after the big turnaround got completly redone, now it doesn't jerk your hard there anymore. The places that needs work, is where they replaced some of the ledgers, and they made the coaster rougher in those spots.

Shivering timbers is doing pretty well. I noticed some work done on it, but nothing significant. All ST needs is good caring manitence, which includes replacing old, more worn supports and track layers.

Last 2002 public ride on MF's front row

Kara what kind of REPROFILING is being done? I hope they don't tame down the airtime at all!!!
Forgot to mention this! I rode TW last spring even with the brake on and found it just as wild as ever since when I rode it before the accident several years ! The only harm I saw the brake do was lack of backseat airtime on the first drop otherwise I found it and airtime filled ride especially in the front seat! A heavily braked TW on the first drop is FAR SUPERIOR to ANY coaster at Valleyfair with the brakes totally off !! That is how well designed that ride is and how poorly design VF's coasters are!! TW is still a GREAT ride despite the brake!!
Opps I don't mean to put this in a separated message but I think the reason TW is still running well is the idea the WOF has added ratcheting lapbars AND headrests both of which added weight to the train so the brake has mimimal effect IMHO.
PFF, why do you feel compelled to knock VF everytime you post? Honestly.

87 different coasters for this year and counting... 149 total!

You have to excuse PFF--he's just having another CCI seizure. It's not the first and it won't be the last. Yeah, I hear you. I'd rather have ST and Cyclops then WT and Excalibur too--but who wouldn't?

Life is hard when you can't understand why every woodie can't be a CCI and your local park just might hold the record for longest downhill trim (Excalibur). While my ribs may understand the reasons for the Excalibur trim, I really do find WT's tight MCBR very, very frustrating. It's gone from a coaster I'd skip work to power-ride to a coaster I'll barely touch.

I walk off the ride as pissed off as he does--just without the urge to beat up on some poor $7/hour seasonal employee in guest services about it every time I visit. Some way or another, I hear about you every year and it's sad. You cross the line between opinionated and dogmatic and give the rest of us a bad name.

It's cool to blow it off in here--just give the living and breathing less grief, huh?

I think Speedy has summed it up for me as far as my problem with Ghostrider. Because the copper train was in the rotation that day. I only rode Ghostie 5 times that day so maybe I was "blessed" with that train every time.

Thanks for the input all, and maybe I'll get some "smoother" rides on my next trip out west!

Are they going to move the Flying Carpet somewhere else to another park???

MIA Jon,

Why do you guys feel as though you are "owed" a hyper.
I honestly would think your attendence would need to be far greater to be able to make that a logical and feasible investment. Once they are comfortable your ROI would be liquid enough, I'm sure you would get one.

Until then, enjoy the wooden jewel you have.

I don't think The Flying Carpet of La Ronde will be moved to another park. The ride was closed the half of the season and there was too major work to do.

-----------------

Does anyone have a picture of this Flying Carpet??? Yeah Kennywood Park's Flying Carpet was closed for most of the season in "2001", but after lots of major work in the off-season the Carpet opened in "2002" and it ran as smooth as glass:) Thank you!

That pic must be from a while ago because it didn't look that good this year.

This expectation didn't come out of thin air...it came from Roger Jourden (sp?) doing an awful lot of talking to the local press. Of course, they were more than happy to publish everything he said.

He talked about a lot of things: A hyper, an S&S tower combo, a hotel, more talk about a hyper, plans drawn up for a hyper, the name 'Morgan' tossed around with the hyper talk...I think you get the idea.

I think anyone would think about a hyper under those conditions.

Thank you Mtl_Shag for the picture:)

My hyper info came from RJ himself. There was a LOT of talk everywhere in michigan about it, and like I said, Kinzel said in a press confrence that "We will put in the planned hypercoaster for 2002." Am I wrong?

Anyways, can ANYONE post some pics?

Yeah, but if they brought it in, MiA's attendance would probably double. But I do agree with you, we do think we are "owed" a hyper. We were well treated this season with all the improvements, and we are not "owed" anything for another year. 2004...2004...2004...2004...2004

And we do enjoy that wooden jewel. ;)
