Columbus Zoo optimistic about acquisition of Wyandot Lake

Wyandot Lake won’t become another Cedar Point or Sea World, but its soon-to-be owners think it will make at least $1 million a year in profit.

I'm liking this more and more all the time. CZ has been one of our favorite zoos to visit year after year, but of all the dozens of times we did go up we never have been to Wyandot lake. Even having the woodie there wasn't enough to entice us. This whole rebuilding and remodeling they're getting ready to do will help them attract more family traffic for the zoo.

From what I have seen and heard over the years SF puts there name on the parks signage, but really have had no other involvment in the park's operations. The track record CZ brings to the table as a zoo, gives me confidence that they will handle this aquisition the right way.

If nothing else it'll give families a more localized option for more regular amusement park trips. Right now if they want to ride rides they have to travel at least 2-hours in most directions to get to a park. As far family amusement places in Columbus, to my knowledge, all they have is the two Magic Mountain Fun Centers and the newly opened indoor waterpark, (whose name slips me right now!). I for one will be watching the happenings up there...looks fun!

It'll be interesting to see what happens with this. I used to live in Columbus (and consider moving back from time to time) and the only time I ever visited Wyandot Lake, I think, was one year I went to the Halloween event there. Its a cute little park, but not much there.

I doubt the Zoo is planning on turning it into a major ride park or anything, but at least I trust them to put more care into it than SF did. So maybe we'll see some additions/modifications in the future. Could be interesting.
