CoasterWorks, what happened?

Okay, so we all know by now that CCI is gone (RIP), but what ever happened to CoasterWorks? They built there first coaster, which was okay, in 2000. This coaster,Thunder Eagle, mysteiously closed and is sbno since about a year after it opened. Later in 2000, they built another woodie, Dania Beach Hurricane, at Boomers. DBH is a great ride and is by far the best woodie in Florida, maybe in the whole Southeast. I don't think this coaster will remain open much longer because it's always empty, and the cost is a steep $6 a ride. Coasterworks coasters were inexpensive to build, and provided a thrilling ride, so what happened to the company, do they still exist? Also, there have been no official GCI coaster sinces 2001, are they going down too? (The Enchanted Village woodie might be GCI, but I'm guessing it won't)

I don't know anything about CW. Some companies just stop but don't say anything. GCI is still in operation though.

Thanks. I knew GCI was still in operation, but I was wondering if they are slowing down or something?

On rcdb.com it says that the 2 you mentioned are the only ones.

I know they are the only two, but you think they would continue? I heard a rumor that they went into manufactoring something else insttead of coasters.

The reason the CoasterWorks coasters have failed is because the owners who had them built were too greedy. (Thunder Eagle was $5 a ride) With CCI gone though, parks like Holiday World might turn to CoasterWorks.
Their website still exists.... http://www.thecoasterworks.com/
Last I heard they were working on a project, but nothing has come out about it sence, my guesses were either a CBC remake or a Cyclone Racers remake, but that's just my specualtion....

Well, I managed to ride Thunder Eagle for 42 consecutive rides last summer. All for a $15 pay one price bracelet.

That's not steep at all.

Coasterworks may still be around, but my question is why is the Thunder Eagle SBNO? Is Race World dead? Their website is gone. I haven't been back to Pigeon Forge since 2000. I thought Thunder Eagle would really bring some attention to Race World, since that is what it needed because it's location is horrible compared to the rest of the Pigeon Forge strip.

I think there building one in Russia, and one somewhere called Project Storm. I think Project Storm was supposed to be a while back though? Any news on these coasters?

Yes they built one in Russia. As far as I know, they are out of business now. Their rides were smooth and full of airtime but they simply lacked the greatness of CCI or GCI. I find the DBH to be a fun ride with great airtime, but nowhere near something like Cheetah at Wild Adventures or the Hurricane at the MB Pavilion. I think it is safe to say that they are history, though.

I had a feeling that is what was going on, but is there any proof?

I find DBH to be a great ride, and at the $10 POP price, it's no longer the "scam" it was at $6/ride....when it opened, it felt a bit *tight* to me, but every time I go down South, it just seems to run better, faster, with more air......best woodie in FL as far as I'm concerned....

oh, and "rumors" suggest that the Thunder Eagle was meant to be a taller coaster (read: faster, more thrilling) but that the town didn't want a big ugly coaster blocking the lovely views....like ANYTHING could look better than a tall woodie....;)

Considering the DBH is fairly new coaster, its a shame that GCI has already been called in to re-track 400ft of linear track. Just goes to show you that any park can build a great ride, but if the cannot maintain it, it goes to coaster hell!

I dont think we will see any more coasterworks rides in the US anymore. And, as small as the footprint of Thunder Eagle is, there is no way it was meant to be any bigger. Race World didnt have that much space to use and they used all they could. That coaster was bad news from the start.. Design delays, construction delays, name issues, you name it, it happened. It's still sitting there sleeping and I doubt it will EVER wake up.....

So do you think they will demolish Thunder Eagle? Does anyone know about STORM? And is the Russian coaster opened yet?

just a pleasant little aside....I remember being "down there" about 6 months ago, and they had just had the oldest trainload of coaster-riders (certified).....I think it was based on total age of riders, or on average age of riders....

but I thought it was very cool, I lve seeing the older folks ride, and DBH is certainly not a ride for the weak of spirit.....

bill, hoping to one day re-set the bar for old folks riding the good wood...

On the website they have a layoutpic of the Russian woodie. It's called Gray Wolf and it looks like a nice woodie. http://www.thecoasterworks.com/IMAGES/wolf.jpg

Isn't it Russia's first woodie ever?

How come Gray Wolf isn't on RCDB?

Just to clarify, CoasterWorks has by no means 'failed' just because they aren't churning out coasters at a CCI rate. The location of Race World and Thunder Eagle was possibly the worst possible location I could think of in Pigeon Forge, and they simply couldn't get the attendence to stay in business. As for Dania Beach Hurricane, I hear it is a fantastic coaster.

It is a fantastic coaster, it just lacks a certain something. But no company's first couple of coasters are great. And DBH is great for only a second coaster to have built. Olov, I think it is Russia's first and only coaster, but for some strange reason it is not on RCDB.
