Coasters Choice Awards

Why aren't the awards chosen after that year's season, after visiting parks in 2004? The 2004 awards are for the 2004 season, aren't they?

Also I wanted to mention it takes a little while for some to figure out how to nominate if your not familar with the database. How about a simple direction on how to get to the database/how to nominate. ie. 'Click Roller Coasters from the main menu'. Not a big deal, just thought I'd mention it.

The awards are given for the previous year, just as the description says.

It works like most major awards do. The Grammy awards were just last night. It was the 2004 Grammy awards. They picked the best of 2003. The oscars are later this month and will be choosing the best of 2003's movies.

Seems like common sense to me. The 2004 Coasters Choice Awards will be picking the best of 2003.

Where?
Quoted directly from the Coasters Choice Awards page:

What rides and parks were eligible in each category?
Coaster of The Year is open to any new coaster, while Park of The Year is open to any park. The Best New Wood and Steel Coaster awards are open to any coaster that opened in 2003. Best Wood and Steel (that is, not new) are open to any coasters that opened before 2003. The park categories were open to all parks.

So where is the link for the 2004 Coasters Choice Nominations? Today's Newsletter link only takes you to the past year's awards.??
There are no nominees yet. You have to go to each individual coaster or park's page to nominate it.
See what I mean.

Lord Gonchar, sorry I don't watch award shows. :)
BTW, that doesn't make sense to me. Seems like any '2004 awards' should be the best of 2004, taken at the end of the season/year. But I guess that's just me.

That's just it. With the seasonal nature of many parks, the new year really starts in April. Just before the new year starts, why not reflect on the previous 12 months?

That's ridiculous! I want to nominate coasters that are still being built!

Timberland Twister for coaster of the year! Timberland Twister for coaster of the year!

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

That's just it. With the seasonal nature of many parks, the old year really ends in October. Just after the old year ends, why not reflect on the previous 12 months?
for all the people who are complaining how the CCA awards are run, here's a solution for you.

1) create a well-designed coaster site
2) get a lot of people to join up
3) create your own awards
4) run the awards how you see fit

It's Jeff's site, if he wants to run it this way, it's his perogative.

If for no other reason, having the award right now helps pass time as the real low point of the offseason begins. If they were held back in November what would there be to look forward to when it comes to the online coaster communities? I mean, you can't honestly say that the forum content is that great right now.

is this worth complaining about? The Coasters Choice Awards are for entertainment, thats it. It bears no impact on anyones life, anywhere. Geez....

Guess who's back? Back Again? James K's back. Tell a friend.

This is the Suggestions forum isn't it? Are all suggestions complaints then? Regardless, my original post was merely a question (+ a suggestion) anyway.

Heh. Yes redman, we know. I bet this gets posted once a week.

No one is arguing about your suggestion. Rather, you asked a question and it was answered. You didn't like the answer, so you continued to bicker.

Almost sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder and wanted to make a point.

Raptor Pilot,

When you keep coming back with the same "suggestion" time after time in the same thread after Jeff responded to you, it stops being a suggestion and starts being a complaint/whine...

The reason the "2004" awards for things like movies cover 2003 is simple -- you can't do the voting for 2003 until 2003 is really over. What if you collected all the votes in November to prepare for the ceremony (these things take some time, after all), and then a blockbuster (like, say, Return of the King) came along in December?

The "Coasters Choice" awards follow the same model. Simple as that. For "most" parks, yes, the season begins in April or so, and ends in October, but not all parks are seasonal. Should, for instance, the parks in Florida and California be penalized because they're NOT seasonal? It would get even more confusing if some amazing ride opened in December, but couldn't be voted on until NEXT year's ballot because the voting for that "season" was already done...

Exactly, Greg. Isn't Knott's supposed to open Silver Bullet in late December.

A perfect example of this idea in play.

Also, I heard they're opening it at that time just to make a strong showing in the Coasters Choice Awards ;)

Which part of this is complicated?
