CoasterMania Questions

I am trying to decide if it will be worth it to go to CoasterMania. I am already going in May but it looks like a good time. I live 7 hours from there. I just need to keep the price down if I am going to go. I just wanted to know about if the ERT, food, contests etc are all good. Could someone just give me a quick summary of the event. Also I am a member of A.C.E.

Coastermania Answer

The 2002 Coastermania featured ERT (which seemed to stand for Everybody Ride Time) in the morning on Raptor, Blue Streak, and Mantis, while evening ERT (again, Everybody Ride Time) featured Magnum, Millennium Force, and a blacked-out Mean Streak, since Wicked Twister was DFD (Down for Duct tape).

During the day there was a Question/Answer session with some higher-ups from Cedar Point. There was also a catered lunch and a photo contest (with prizes!).

Think of "ERT" as EXTENDED Ride Time instead of Exclusive Ride Time, and you'll be fine.

The CM '03 flyer is up, by the way.

Do all CF passes get you in free or just CP? And do you have to do the guest relations thing?

SFgadvman: I'm in Princeton and will probably end up going too. If you want to drive together and split tolls and gas...

You must be this dumb to ride Viper. -SFGAdv.

Nobody warned me of that this year and I was highly pissed at the hour wait for Millennium Force. Although, the rerides on Magnum were nice.

All Cedar Fair amusement park passes are valid at all Cedar Fair amusment parks.

Best ride by far, Maggie at night, no trims amazing. Got 25 rides last year.

1989, 9 years old bawling my eyes out because I didn't want to ride Magnum. I did anyway and look at me now. Why did ya make me do it Dave? ;)

Now TTD better not be broke down and unable to run from 6:30-8:30 like they are announcing or there will be a bunch of tired and grouchy people.

Hey, stuff happens. Wicked Twister wasn't up last year -- they opened a different ride. They'd do the same here.

Rides are sometimes closed, but that's life. Wicked Twister was "down for duct tape" during CoasterMania, but we still managed to "ride" it. Check out my Wicked Twister POV if you don't believe me. It is possible to have fun at a park without all the coasters operating

Question for anyone who attended CoasterMania in both 2001 and last year: Did the change that Cedar Point made which limited coaster club members to only purchasing one additional ticket for the 2002 CM have any real impact on the size of the crowds verses those of the past?

I can't imagine it did. The crowd was still huge. But it's still a great event. The lines are not bad at all for Raptor, Mantis, BS, or Maggie. 10 mins tops for each of those. Millie however has a huge wait, I would assume the same for Dragster.

I think a lot of local kids join a club just to go to the event. Seemed to be a vast amount of non enthusiast typerteenie boppers there last year.

What was the photo contest all about?

Forget the coasters...I'd go to Coastermania again for the free taffy and candy apples alone! :) Let's hope they do something like that again this year.

Here's the breakdown of the photo contest. Quite simple really: Enthusiasts sent in amateur photos they had taken of CP rides before CM, and the park gave out prizes to the photos they thought were the best at CM. I really like the new contest idea this year. I may have to try my persuasive writing skills out, although fifty words sure is short. Looks like they're anticipating a lot of entries.

Whoa...who's Kristin Marie, and why does she have the same sig as another Kristin I know who posts here frequently??? ;)

I put the "D" in DDR.

...might I suggest what I did last year....went to the park the night before. Jill thought I was nuts (well, that's a *whole other topic*, lol) until the next day when everyone woke up to find that WT wouldn't be running. New rides are always dicey, and the CM crowds mean that ERT isn't exactly a ride-fest anyway....not that any day at CP isn't great.

The strategy for CM/TTD: If you see a prototype/ brand new coaster running, get at least ONE ride while you can...;)

sadly, it doesn't look like CM will happen for us this year, but ya never know....

Wow- what a schedule! Looks like a lot of fun. It doesn't get much better than that- wake up and launch with Dragster and end the night with Wicked Twister and Millie.

-----------------
Timberline Twister: Knott's may not have a B&M, but they do have a B&K.

Matt, you are missing out on the greatest show if you deprive yourself of a trimless night Maggie Ride. Besides the fact that you can get huge amounts of laps on Maggie while waiting for one on Millie.

My strategy involves marathoning Maggie until it's close at 12:30 and finishing the night up with a ride on Millie.
