ACE didn't "throw their weight around" regarding Coaster Con. I have no idea where that rumor was started but the park itself came to ACE to talk about doing the event a couple of years ago. ACE didn't go to the park. As shocking as it may sound, parks do offer to host events without the group asking, and (gasp!) Cedar Point is more than happy to be doing the event.
As for Coastermania being moved. This isn't just because of Coaster Con. There are a couple of other events from other enthusiast organizations taking place around the same time. The park didn't want to bite off more than they could chew with the possibility of having a shoddy Coastermania event so they simply moved it so they could host the other events and still have Coastermania without sacrificing the quality of the annual event.
Finally, despite what a few people have heard, Coastermania is NOT opened to any season pass holder. You have to be a member of a enthusiasts organization or a guest of someone that is in a enthusiast organization to attend Coastermania. I have talked to a few people (as well as seen a couple of posts) who are angry at ACE because of Coaster Con and wished Coastermania would remain a season pass holders event only.....as if no ACE members are season pass holders or something.
I just don't get that.

I still assume admission to Coastermania will always remain free to CP season passholders who are ALSO club members?
Shane,The Coaster Con dates are June 20-25. I don't know the exact schedule yet but the first few days (June 20-23) will be at Cedar Point, followed by a visit to Memphis Kiddie Park in Cleveland, and then SFWOA. Despite the crowds (which are NOT that bad and are just as crowded as a park-sponsored event only) the Cons are a blast!
I haven't heard an exact date for Coastermania yet. I think it's great they moved it back to September. A nice fall event around Halloweekends will be a great change of pace.
I think the people who are complaining about this already should actually THANK Cedar Point and other parks who are GOING to host events next year. If your plans are shot then get over it. It's NOT the end of the world. Either make some adjustments if possible or just stay home. The parks don't need your whining.
Personally I think we are damn lucky to have any events at all.

(who will be attending both events and appreciating it!)

Sure there are always A-holes/attention whores at ANY event, but for the most part everyone is cool and ignore the trolls.

Seriously, those who are annoyed, I've met probably well over a hundred ACErs, and virtually every one of them has been very nice....and if they're not, just ignore them! :) I'm sure CoasterCon wasn't the ONLY consideration CF took into account...and I'm willing to bet the event will do EVEN BETTER than in years' past!
Reiterating what Dave said, CP could plan the event in February if they chose to, it's THEIR park...considering what's been going on in forums in the past six months, I'm gonna have to agree with those who are thankful to HAVE an event at all...
Okay, I'll leave the banner at home and forget about chaining myself to the entrance at CP but you gotta get me extra Chipotle and Yeungling to make up for it! ;) Oh, and don't forget the Philly cheesesteaks too!
Over here we get very little in the way of events compared to what you get in the US and it strikes me that, as has been pointed out before, some people take things too much for granted. What did you do before Coastermania et al existed? Never look a gift horse in the mouth :)
Bill-
Yep - what Dave said as well as what you said :)
