Coasterbuzz Pop-Up Ads

$20 is ssooooo expensive to the teeny boppers who blow their wad on the latest greatest video game for their x-box, sega dreamcast, and on the chips, gum and soda they have to drink at school while they're bragging about the high score they got the night before on previously mentioned game. And you know, those seem to be the ones whom I have noticed complain the most about pop-up ads on the site. Kids, tell ya what, when you learn how to budget your(mommy and daddy's) money, and you figure out what priorities are in life, you'll see that not everyone out there in the world today is here to cater to your every whim, beck and call or desire. Not everyone (more than 90%) has the luxury of tapping mom and dad for everything they need to survive. The ads are here for those who are not members. You don't want to see the ads, drop an Andrew(that would be a $20 bill for those of you who do not regularly pay bills and notice the grin on the mans face everytime you do) in the mail and help support the site. If you don't want to do that, then the pop-ups will be supporting the site in lieu of your AJ. If anyone got that, cool....if not, then realize that I had it straight in my head 5 minutes ago but I am married, and someone has been racking my brain for ideas on what color the new drapes should be. :)

I've just seen the future...what was I saying?

Preach on brother! I'm soooo sick of hearing about this crap. It's 20 friggin' dollars. Even for a teeny bopper that's cheap. Pay the 20 bucks and shut-up already.

So many coasters, so little vacation time....

MI Trooper 1, not all teens are bad with that. I tend to spend my money on gas, insurance, and then save the rest of my paycheck for later in life (college, car, etc). But I also tend to have fun once in a while (ie, cd's). But that is only during the summer when I have a job. But, as soon as I get payed this Friday, first check I write, will be to Jeff.

Unfortunetly, alot of teens are too cheap to lay down $20 for a site they claim to love. But yet will go out and spend it on various stuff, such as cd's, movies, and so on.

Just a side note MI Trooper1, we have the same birthday, just a few years apart. for me it is 2/20/85

I just saw on Tech Tv last Tuesday that sometime in July, there will a new kind of software lock that you will have to click on the ads and you won't be able to get out of it. I can't remember the name of the 1st advertiser to use it, but my suggestion to all the teeny bopper punks here that think things should just be given to them should get a life and grow up learn where their priorities are. If you want to be on here and be ad free, fork up the 20 bucks and quit your *****ing. It costs money to run a site, and more and more sites are now charging for higher bandwidth. Hell, I just a check for 180$ to Homestead for startup on my music site coming out in August. Get a life kiddies. BTW, if you are using a popup killer, you are stealing and yes that does make you a thief.

Not to complain, but I just had three pop up and this is the first thread that I have read. That to me is excessive, but maybe I'm just used to ONE ad popping up per visit to a site. THREE doesn't seem too excessive if that's all I get while I am there. And yes it is a paint to have to terminate them. Especially when I am trying to read the site and they pop up and end up causing the site to be killed instead of them. just mho though

And as I said, I'm trying to limit it to three. It's not by choice that I even have to allow that many. It's do or die at this point, and frankly I think the site is ready for a run longer than two and a half years.

Jeff,

I think that this site is to the point where those that are going to help support it are already doing so or within a short time will do so. The rest never will. If money is a problem, I'm sure many of the members might be interested in sending additional monies to keep this site we love up and running. However, I am beginning to wonder how cost effective this site is to run free anymore. It's a great humanitarian effor if you ask me, but how much longer can you do it? You've cited your feelings many times about popup-killers, yet you have people on this very site giving that advice to others.

Thanks for the link to the previous topic on how much your site costs to run and maintain. Very insightful. (Missed it cause the topic was "Track Record"). I personally hate pop-ups as well, but I deal with them, knowing that sites cost money to run.

Okay, this has been brought up time and time again. Unless you would like to pay for everybody to not have the pop ups, than stop whining. If you truely hate the pop ups so much, than pay the $20. You have two options, pay the $20 or deal with the pop ups. Those pop ups pay for the site, without them none of us would be expressing our opinions here today.

That's not at all true. Club memberships have been steady and do make ends meet. They make up for the shortfall and now account for a percentage of my budget. The point here is that cheating me out of the other part of the revenue, the ads, pushes me back toward red ink.

I never knew about that whole 3-popup thing, usually I open new windows w/ every link I click.... meaning I ALWAYS got one... but now I don't do that and only get 3 like you say... and I am not prone to stupid IE crashes anymore... =D
