Is this the Caterpillar style ride that was mentioned?

Idlewild still has one of these.
I believe so, only the one I remember had a roof structure over it. The cover was made of canvas.

You know if it was me talking about it that 99% of the time a photo (or two) can be found on my site. :)
That looks like a fairly new model... I didn't realize they had been made in years.
The one at Idlewild has the retractable canvas roof, as well. It's a "hybrid" of the old one at Idlewild and the old one from Kennywood. They combined parts at one time to make one working model.
What was the purpose of the canopy? Aesthetics or something else? I have a book about MD Amusement parks, and one caption says the Caterpillar was rumored to cause panic when the canopy went up. Any truth to that?
the one in Gonches pictures is a newer Heinrich Mack GmbH & Co KG version.

The one at Idlewild is Traver Eng.
I know on the older versions the Canopy made it look like more like a Caterpillar. It also has a fan under the track that blows upwards. I could see panic is someone is claustrophobic though.
In regards to the Steven Spielberg comments, in addition to hisdirectorial credits in Jaws, ET, and Jurassic Park, he was executiveproducer on Back to the Future, An American Tail, Twister, Shrek, andMen in Black.

Ah, spoken like a true Pittsburgher..........................
Aww. I can't take credit. I was resistant to the canoodling thing until Carrie convinced me. She's the true Burgh chick.
On the Jungle Cruise, the ride is amazing and great *ONLY IF* your guide is amazing and great. This past trip I had the best skipped I've probably ever had (in response to a girl asking at the end of the ride if all the animals are fake, he says "Yes, they all are... except for the ducks.") But I've had some very, very bad ones.
1, It's *Pilgrims* Plunge, dahling...
2. ProSlide says pacemakers are fine on Wildebeest.
3. Gonch, if you want to wear a down jacket on the water rides, that's just fine with us.
4. Thanks for your kind words.
5. When are you going to have me on again so I can laugh every time you say "diggin' it"? You old hippie, you! :)

You keep correcting me/us, but I'm not sure what it is I'm saying. I know I've inadvertently half-said "perilous" but I usually correct myself.
And you can be on the show any time you want, provided you can stay up until 10 on Sundays. That's the time in Cleveland and Dayton, by the way. :)

Good to know. But I'm in Floriduh right now and at 10pm it still feels like 90+ outside and the thought of a down jacket is making me woozy.
