Kara Dhuse, a 17-year old from Roosevelt Park, MI, rode Shivering Timbers, the mile-long wooden roller coaster at Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, for the 1,000th time on Sept. 15. It was the amusement park's last day for the 2002 season.

Congo Rats Kara :)
I got a ways to go I think I have 12 laps or something ;) Altho I will hit 100 on Raptor before the end of the year, but alas, that's no where near 1,000 :) Very cool.
Imagine how long you could float if you took all the airtime you got on all 1,000 rides and combined it all together, lol.
-----------------
If only I could legally drive from Mich to CP at MF's top speed. I could shave 42 minutes off my drive time.
I'm no lap counter, but I'm willing to bet my combined coaster rides might not top 1,000.
Congratulations and I hope you get to meet CBaby and Da 'Midget some time next summer.
-'Playa
(who just might possibly, theoretically be around 100 laps on his local hyper)

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.
Well, I love a good coaster as much as the next guy but 1,000 rides? OH MY GOD!!!!
More power to ya! (Did you stuff your shorts with Cottonelle?)
1,000 laps? Wow, I can't say I'm not amazed. Now, how do they know you're not just lying about this for publicity? I doubt you'd lie, but how do they know? What if you're really only on 998 laps?
On the other hand, CONGRATS! That's simply awe-inspiring. If I had a homepark, I'd be getting 1,000 laps on the coasters. Maybe I can shoot for 100 on NM Rattler, now that it's open.

Once again Kara, congrats. I do have one question though, because I must have missed it at Timbersfest: What is Drummer Boy?

Thanks Great America!
Wow, thanks so much for all of your comments! This really made my day. I feel like such a media whore lately.
As for 1,000 laps on drummer boy... I second Rob's comment. Chris, don't even go there ;).
Taipan, lol! In case you were REALLY wondering...I keep track of my daily laps on a tally counter, and then record them in an Excel document. Usually include the date, who went with me, number of laps, total laps in the season, and total laps. Although, occasionally I do tell maintenance what to do :).
Linda, Haven't gone for the ST photo shoot yet, the only photographer that agreed to do such daring things is currently out of town...but I'll definitely send one your way when I get them back! I did send a few pics with me and my baby, but that's the one they selected, I guess.
BIIIIG shout out to Mr. Scott..he set this all up for me, and did the cool radio blurb in my sig. Shall we set the record straight? He never said I "wave my hands madly." Just chuckled at that one :).
Man, it’s really great to recall closing day...I miss the park so much! As for next year...who knows?! I hope that you guys realize that I don't, in fact, ride for the numbers; so wherever my desire to ride takes me is what I will achieve. However, I still have 18 weeks, 5 days, 4 hours, 48 mins, and 50 seconds until the park opens :(.

WOW, 1000 laps! My record on Timbers is 25 times in one day and I had a massive headache! I cant even imagine 1000 times in a single season.
Congratulations
Hey Joe., Drummer Boy is a flat ride. It's got circular tubs on a spinning platform, and each tub has a wheel in the center that you use to spin the tub independently. I'm sure you've seen one before. There is one on the kiddie side of the Gemini Midway at CP.
Drummer Boy is over by the Carousel at MiA, next to the "whale" ride, near the entrance of the picnic area where we gathered for lunch at Timbersfest. Most people would consider it a "kiddie" ride, but not when Kara is driving!!
She had John Peck on his knees after our "spin" at Timbersfest. I'm proud to say I have survived two rides on this with Kara.

Hey all, Kara is in the spotlight here! The 1000th ride on Timbers is a hell of a feat. That "tall/slim" quote really cracked me up. What I really said was...

Just an odd question Kara: Did you get your Senior photos with ST? ;)
Congrats, once again :)
