Coaster Webmasters

Geocities will soon not be providing a free PageBuilder but free HTML editor. Do most webmasters use html editors or something like microsoft frontpage. im asking you coaster webmasters what you use to know if thats how they make thier websites. sorry if its a little off topic but out of everything you guys will know the best. not people i know personally.

i use front page, it's somewhat hard at first, but gets easier eventually. You just can't do as much with html. I've tried to use code, but that's only good for text sites. Word is okay, publisher is too forceful and dreamweaver is "cheap" looking, but cost a lot.

For my site I used front page. My brother goes to Purdue and gets it for like 10 bucks, but it's a really great program. It is easy to make a page.

You can hear the laughter, you can hear the mighty roar. From the brickyard down in Indy to the white Chicago shore. It's a rollin', twistin', turnin' and might we both suggest. You get you fanny ridin' on the Cornball Express!

I used some FrontPage for my initial design but everything is now dynamically generated using a single template file from a header and footer function.

I don't have a coaster site, but, when I do HTML, I either hardcode it (ie. Notepad) or I will use Dreamweaver if I want to make an easy edit on something.

Most of my sites start off in Notepad and then I put it into DW to check it. I don't know why, I'm just a strange little man.

I design all of my graphics in Ulead Xpress and do all the coding in Notepad. It works out great....and for HTML only good for text sites....if you know a lot of different languages....HTML is great to use.

I used to use front page express, but now a text editor works :) Try html, it's not as hard as it looks. Just go to [url="http://www.freesitetemplates.com/" target="_blank">Freesitetemplates or Freewebtemplates and download a template. Then edit it to your tases and upload it to your server :)

I use a combination of Dreamweaver and Home Site. Dreamweaver for my initial design (Great WYSIWYG program) and Home Site (text based) for any clean up jobs I need to do. Adobe Photoshop is used for any of my graphics.

I've tried a variety of tools over the years, including FrontPage, Dreamweaver (UltraDev), etc., but I always end up using notepad (or BBEdit).

I use Front Page, but then again, I'm not doing anything fancy, just mostly text and pictures. It's easy and it gets the job done!

Visual Studio.NET and Photoshop are my most used tools.

No serious web designers use Frontpage. When I've designed pages for clients, they've said "use ANYTHING but Frontpage."

I do it by hand.

I may not be a Coaster site Webmaster, but....

I generally use FrontPage, only for simplicity of seeign it visually. It helps with laying things out on the fly. I can do eveything I do in FrontPage by hand, but sometimes, seeing it is easier than deceiphering someone's code. (Where I work I sometimes have to do add-on mockups for people, so FrontPage Rocks for creating a shell.)

So, I use notepad, FrontPage, and Photoshop 6.

Live on the edge and remember the Twist of Fate.

Visual Inter Dev 6.0, Microsoft Image Composer (I know, I know, I just can't afford photoshop right now). I hand code everything, from JavaScripts to ASP pages. Front Page (or any of the WYSIWYG editors for that matter) don't give you the same amount of options as being creative on your own. It's ok for learning, to draw something and see how it's put together, but if you want to make money at it, learn the code...

Personally I use Homesite to hand code everything. It is fully extendable so that you can set it up for pages of different scripting languages. I currently have mine set up for both ASP and ASP.NET pages. I believe as far as editors go and ease of use that Homesite blows away Interdev. Interdev is nice for organizing things and debugging(which is almost impossible to get working right anyways) and having your database info open at the same time but I still find Homesite more comfortable. Just call it personal preference

Oh and for Image Editing, Paint Shop Pro is the way to go. Sure it isn't as good as Photoshop but the price is a heck of a lot cheaper and for the features I am not getting it isnt worth the difference in price.

Anyhoo, to make this coaster related --- I like Raging Bull!!!

I have to disagree with you there. If version control isn't important and you're in a situation where you can make changes to the live site instead of a development site, FrontPage and its server extensions make life a lot easier. If you develop Active Server Pages, you can save a little time by letting FP do the HTML, tweak it, and add your script. It even color codes it for you.

We've used FrontPage for several uses in my last two gigs. As long as you're not using the themes and some of that nonsense, it's not a bad thing to use.
